Watch: River Ganga Submerges Famous Bade Hanuman Mandir In Prayagraj, Video Goes Viral
The famous Bade Hanumanji Temple in Prayagraj has been temporarily closed after floodwaters from the Ganga and Yamuna rivers entered the temple premises and submerged the deity. Over the past few days, water levels in both rivers have surged significantly, raising alarm across several cities in Uttar Pradesh, including Prayagraj and Varanasi. #WATCH | Uttar Pradesh: Water level of River Ganga increased in Prayagraj; enters Bade Hanuman Mandir in Prayagraj. — ANI (@ANI) July 15, 2025 In a striking visual of devotion meeting nature's force, the incident occurred on the first Tuesday of the holy month of Sawan, considered highly auspicious in Hindu tradition. Despite the rising waters, temple priests carried out the sacred rituals of aarti (lamp worship) and abhishekam (ritual bathing of the deity) before the temple was closed for safety. The water from both rivers inundated the road in front of the temple corridor on Monday. By Tuesday afternoon, floodwaters had submerged the road leading to the Bade Hanuman Mandir corridor. According to eyewitnesses, water began flowing over the temple steps by 2:30 PM and quickly rose to submerge the reclining idol of Lord Hanuman. The main chamber of the temple has been closed for regular rituals, and a small idol of Lord Hanuman has been placed above the temple for worship until the floodwater recedes. A large number of devotees gathered at the temple to witness the sacred event, known as "Mahasnan" or ritual bathing of the deity. Notably, the floodwaters reached the temple in mid-July this year, which is unusually early, as they typically reach the temple in August. Flooding of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers In Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district, the river Ganga is currently flowing at a 177.60-metre water level. Sambhal District Magistrate Rajender Pensiya said that the district administration is on alert and has established 16 flood control posts, as well as identified 13 shelter homes in the affected areas. "The water level in the river Ganga is at 177.60 m. . In our district, 36 villages are affected by floods," Sambhal DM Dr Rajender Pensiya said while speaking to ANI. "The tender process for flood relief kits has also been completed. We are on alert. The last time a flood situation arose was in 2010."

Bade Hanumanji temple closed after floodwaters submerge deity
1 2 3 4 Prayagraj: The rising waters of Ganga and Yamuna rivers entered the Bade Hanuman Ji Temple in the Sangam area at 2.30pm on Tuesday. Locals consider this occurrence highly auspicious, particularly as it happened on the first Tuesday of Shrawan month. This is perhaps the first time in several decades that the floodwater entered the temple in mid-July, as it usually occurs in Aug. Floodwater from the twin rivers inundated the road in front of the wall of the Bade Hanuman Ji corridor from all sides since Monday morning, and locals were anxiously waiting for Ganga Ji to enter the temple premises to bathe the deity, as it occurs every year. By the Tuesday morning, Ganga waters had entered the temple premises from the gates of the corridor, and by 2.30 pm, floodwater started flowing downward from the stairs of the temple. In around an hour, water submerged the reclining deity completely. As the water entered the premises, devotees began chanting praises to Lord Hanuman and Maa Ganga. Head priest Mahant Balveer Giri said: "After the floodwater entered the temple, we performed aarti followed by the abhishekam of both Ganga and Lord Hanuman. Later, a small idol of Lord Hanuman was touched to the large idol and placed above the temple where all rituals would be performed until the floodwater recedes." After performing aarti, the main gate of the temple has been closed, he added. Meanwhile, as the news of the floodwater entering the temple spread in the city, a large number of devotees rushed to the Sangam area to have a glimpse of the sacred event. However, the rapid water level rise in both rivers has alerted the administration. Water discharge from both rivers' barrages has contributed to the increasing levels. The water level of river Ganga at Phaphamau (at 4pm) stood at 81.74m and at Chhatnag it was recorded at 81.09m. The flood water of Yamuna too is increasing and was recorded at Naini as 81.51m.

Tripura BJP activists visit CPM ex-MP Sankar Prasad Datta to protest his Hanuman remark: ‘We'll pray he gains knowledge'
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal protested in Agartala on Tuesday against an allegedly derogatory remark about Lord Hanuman made by former CPM MP Sankar Prasad Datta. They burned Datta in effigy and demanded that he apologise for the remark he allegedly made while speaking at a CITU conference two days ago. 'A few days back, the CPM leader called Lord Hanuman 'shonda' (bully). Hanumanji is our deity. Protesting against this, we burnt his effigy. We will recite Hanuman Chalisa in front of his home and we will compel him to seek an apology in front of Hanumanji and God in our presence,' said a VHP leader. A group of BJP activists visited Datta's home and offered him a portrait of Lord Hanuman and Hanuman chalisa. 'They (CPM) have made derogatory remarks about Hindu religion on several occasions. The BJP brings out people from darkness to light. We came to his house today with Hanuman Chalisa. We will pray that he gains knowledge and may Lord Hanuman forgive him,' said a BJP activist. The BJP's youth wing, the Tripura Pradesh Yuva Morcha, also protested against the remark in the capital city. 'The entire state has condemned the incident. We demand Sankar Prasad Datta should be immediately arrested. We have seen earlier that they tried to hurt our religious sentiments. After the rally, we will recite Hanuman chalisa near the Kali temple at Melarmath,' a protester said. Datta or the CPM has not reacted to the controversy.

Temple demolition in Alwar sparks row
1 2 Alwar: In a contentious development from Alwar district's Umrain block, the demolition of a temple by the forest department has triggered protests among local residents. The incident, which occurred Thursday, has led to accusations of religious sentiment violation and damage to a Lord Hanuman idol. Opposition leader Tikaram Jully led a protest Friday morning at the demolition site, demanding immediate reconstruction of the temple by the state govt. Jully criticised the forest department's actions, stating it should have conducted proper investigations regarding land ownership before proceeding with the demolition. According to local resident Suwalal, the temple site holds significant historical and religious importance, dating back approximately 100 years. He emphasised that the location has served as a rest stop for Devnarayan pilgrims for over 25 years. A new Devnarayan temple, constructed six months ago, was initially halted by the forest department before being demolished Thursday. Sarpanch representative Bhavindra Patel warned of potential protests if the govt fails to rebuild the temple, placing the responsibility for any future unrest on the authorities. However, Additional SP Priyanka Raghuvanshi maintained that the forest department only removed illegal encroachments and did not damage the original temple site. The incident has created a rift between local authorities and residents, with villagers threatening to launch intense protests if their demands for reconstruction were not met. The situation continues to develop as both sides maintain their positions on the matter.
