Madhya Pradesh police recruits to recite Ramcharitmanas every night before sleeping; top cop says ‘learn from Lord Ram'
Newly inducted police constables in Madhya Pradesh have been instructed to recite one or two chapters of the Ramcharitmanas collectively every night before sleeping at Police Training Schools (PTSs) across the state, as reported by ANI. The directive coincides with the launch of a nine-month basic training program that began on July 23 at eight PTSs. Before the start of the training, officials received numerous requests from recruits seeking to transfer to training centres closer to their hometowns. ADG (Training) Raja Babu Singh stated that it is a treasure trove of wisdom, and there is a path described for ideal value-based living in it. He told ANI, 'There are a total of eight Police Training Schools in Madhya Pradesh to train newly recruited constables, which include Rewa, Umaria, Pachamarhi, Indore, Ujjain, Bhauri-Bhopal, Sagar and Tighra-Gwalior. A 9-month-long training of newly recruited 4000 constables has started from today at these eight PTSs. As new criminal laws were implemented from July 1, 2024, we made some amendments in the 9-month-long basic course of police constables. We have designed the course keeping in mind the technological elements and its training has begun from today.' According to information, around half of the newly recruited constables submitted applications for PTS allocation nearest to their home, citing various excuses, mostly of illness in the family. Though ADG Singh dissuaded them and gave the example of Lord Ram's 14-year exile from Ramcharitmanas and to took a lesson from it. 'We have received a lot of applications from newly recruited PTS change personnel wishing to do training courses at the PTS nearest to their home. Some of them were citing reasons for their mother's illness and others. While addressing SP PTSs yesterday, I told them to counsel the recruits and motivate them that it is said in Ramcharitmanas, Lord Ram spent 14 years in exile; if Lord Ram had stayed in exile, then why can't you (recruits) spend just nine months in a Police Training School within the state,' ADG singh said. Ramcharitmanas is a treasure trove of wisdom, containing key messages about how to live life. He further added, 'I gave them this example of Lord Ram so that new recruits should focus on training rather than paying attention to changing PTS. I have also asked them to read Ramcharitmanas, and take inspiration from it; it contains many key messages about how to live life.' If Lord Ram had stayed in exile, then why can't you (recruits) spend just nine months in a Police Training School within the state?

MP Police recruit centres to hold Ramcharitmanas sessions for trainees
Agency: Bhopal, Jul 24 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh Police training wing has directed all its centres to hold Ramcharitmanas recital sessions for their recruits to instil discipline and make them learn from the life of Lord Ram. The decision was taken after some of the recruits approached the headquarters requesting a seat in a base closer to their home. ADG (Training) Raja Babu Singh had to dissuade the trainees from raising such a demand and cited examples from the Ramcharitmanas, which describes the virtues of Lord Ram and his 14-year-long exile in the forests. A senior officer explained that recruits from other religions will not be forced to take part in these Ramcharitmanas recital sessions, and the exercise will be voluntary at each of the training centres. A nine-month-long basic training course was launched by the ADG via a video conference link for about 4,000 recruits at eight police training schools of the state on Wednesday. Singh told PTI that his office had received a 'number of applications from the trainees, seeking a centre closer to their home". 'If that is allowed, then the state-level profile of the Madhya Pradesh Police would get compromised. Police job is such where a personnel can be sent anywhere to serve, keeping aside their regional or local affiliations," he said. Singh, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1994 batch, said the trainees should learn from the life and virtues of Lord Ram and finish their training with discipline. The ADG said he has asked all the heads or superintendent of police-rank officers heading the police training schools that 'they should try to collectively recite one or two chapters of Shri Ramcharitmanas daily before sleeping." 'Shri Ramcharitmanas is a treasure trove of wisdom, and it shows you a path of ideal value-based life," the ADG said. Ramcharitmanas is an epic poem on Lord Ram written by 16th 16th-century poet Tulsidas. MP Police trainees to recite verses of Ramcharitmanas each night
Every night before sleep, trainees at police academies in Madhya Pradesh will collectively recite a few verses from Ramcharitmanas, a 16th century version of the Ramayana written in Awadhi by Tulsidas because Additional Director General of police (Training) Rajababu Singh believes it will teach them how to deal with adversity. MP Police trainees to recite verses of Ramcharitmanas each night 'New things (navachar) should be introduced for new batches for overall development of the trainees,' said the order, introducing daily recitation of Ramcharitmanas that was ordered by ADG issued on Tuesday. Singh has decided that the trainees in small groups at eight will recite a few couplets of Ramcharitmanas every night. Singh's order said that the district police superintendents in-charge of the training centers have been instructed to get a copy of Ramcharitmanas immediately and start the recitation. Confirming this order, a police officer posted at the training institute said, 'We received these instructions and we will implement it soon but it won't be compulsory for trainees of other religions to avoid controversy. However, the meaning of all the couplets will be explained in Hindi so that everyone can take life lessons from them.' Singh said he himself has learnt many things from Ramcharitmanas that have made him stronger and able to deal with any kind of adversity. 'Being head of the training department, it's my duty to make our trainees strong too.' He added that 'many new trainees are not able to cope with the nine-month training. They want training centres near their homes so that they can visit family frequently,' added Singh, who came back to his parent Madhya Pradesh cadre after a stint with the Border Security Force (BSF). 'He (Lord Ram) learnt the art of surviving in the forest, adapting to an unfamiliar environment and defeating the enemy. Police trainees should also learn it,' said the 1994 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. According to Madhya Pradesh police, about 7400 newly appointed constables, sub-inspectors and deputy superintendents of police are undergoing training at the institutes. Congress leader K K Mishra said, 'The BJP-led state government and its officers have made a habit of mixing religion with everything. Instead of making these trainees secular, who can respect and treat people of all religions alike, they are giving extra importance to one religion.' But BJP spokesperson Hitesh Bajpai said it was a good initiative: 'Here, trainees are being prepared to get ready for every kind of challenge and Lord Ram is the best example of surviving in the forest while fighting against demons.'

Ram Setu footbridge project in Prayagraj gathers pace
Prayagraj: The long-awaited dream of a footbridge named Ram Setu over the Yamuna River in Prayagraj is now closer to becoming a reality. A joint survey conducted by the officials of the Municipal Corporation and Setu Nigam has paved the way for the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR), which will soon be submitted to the state govt. The proposed project aims to ease access for tourists visiting key religious and historical locations near the riverbanks. According to officials, the upcoming bridge will be exclusively for pedestrians and approximately five metres wide. The estimated cost of the project is over Rs 400 crore, and the construction is expected to span four years. If all approvals are received in time and the budget is allocated, the foundation stone for Ram Setu is likely to be laid between November and December this year. The bridge will begin from Yamuna Bank Road and end a few metres from Shivalaya Park, a location close to several significant religious landmarks, including Triveni Pushp and various temples. This initiative is part of the broader plan to boost religious tourism in the city and provide better infrastructure for pilgrims and visitors. The name Ram Setu has been proposed by Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani, who sent a formal proposal to Setu Nigam earlier this year in January. The name holds symbolic importance, as it retraces the mythological journey of Lord Ram during his exile. It is believed that Lord Ram, accompanied by Sita and Lakshman, crossed the Yamuna near Prayagraj during their journey from Ayodhya to Chitrakoot via Shringverpur Dham and the ashram of Bhardwaj Muni. "Tourist movement is increasing significantly in the area. Religious sites such as Shivalaya Park and Triveni Pushp are drawing more footfall. This bridge will provide seamless access and enhance the visitor experience," said Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani. "The survey is complete, and we are committed to starting construction at the earliest possible." Chief engineer of the Municipal Corporation, Dinesh Chandra Sawan confirmed that a joint committee has been formed to oversee the planning and construction. "The DPR and design will soon be prepared by Setu Nigam. This bridge will not only serve functional needs but also stand as a symbol of cultural and spiritual heritage," he said.
