My Favorite Budget Security Cam Is Over 50% Off on Prime Day's Final Day
Amazon Prime Day Sale: The final day of the Amazon Prime Day sale has the Arlo Essential 2K security cam marked down by 53% on, dropping the price to just $48. That's a seriously good deal for a camera that offers many of the same features of Arlo's highest-end models. If you're in the market for more than one security camera, even better, as the two-pack is currently discounted by 58%, bringing the price down to $80 from its usual $190 price tag. I've tested dozens of security cameras over the years from brands like Blink, Lorex, Ring and Arlo. No matter which model I'm looking at, one thing always holds constant: A camera with premium features is typically going to come with a hefty price tag. Prices for just a single camera can easily run $200 or even more. So when you're trying to put together a system with multiple cameras, the total cost can get out of hand quickly. But the second-gen Arlo Essential 2K cam surprisingly manages to stand out from the pack and I recommend it as an affordable security solution for those who are on a budget. What I like about the Arlo security camera While testing the Arlo Essential 2K Cam, I found the indoor-outdoor wireless camera performs well. The 2K resolution helps gather plenty of details, it's highly weather resistant and Arlo's app excels at walkthroughs on how to set up and use the cam. Other common features include two-way audio, color night vision and a built-in siren. Arlo isn't done yet. The cam's integrated spotlight did a great job of lighting up my backyard -- and if you prefer other smart home platforms, it plays well with Alexa and Google Home, as well as IFTTT (no Apple HomeKit support at this time but it's a possibility). For more, here are CNET's picks for the best home security systems. Hey, did you know? CNET Deals texts are free, easy and save you money. Arlo wins at customization in the home security conversation I liked a lot of what the Arlo Essential does but it's not too different from what many other security cameras do -- just surprisingly affordable. I really like Arlo's UI and smart home integration too, with an app that's easy to understand and pops open for a quick look at your home when you're out on the town (and that doesn't even require a subscription). It's the deeper customization features that really impressed me. Those who like to tinker with their home security setup will love the beta-version custom detection options that come with higher-tier subscriptions, in addition to facial and vehicle recognition. I haven't seen custom setups like this on any other security camera before. In my tests, I was able to "teach" the cam AI to recognize when a pet toy appeared on camera or when certain objects were no longer present. I could also use this feature to tell me when the garage door opened or if something valuable (say, a piece of artwork) disappeared. Likewise, the vehicle detection options can tell if a specific vehicle is pulling up to your home. I've never seen anything else like this for those who really want to push their home security to the limits. Arlo's Essential cam is a great deal but keep in mind Arlo's subscription options. Arlo Best July Prime Day Deals 2025 CNET's team of shopping experts have explored thousands of deals on everything from TVs and outdoor furniture to phone accessories and everyday essentials so you can shop the best Prime Day deals in one place. See Now Arlo cams for yourself or others With Arlo's easy and informative setup process, the Essential camera is a great choice even if you or your family haven't tried a security camera before. As long as a user is comfortable trying out a new app and following the instructions, Arlo is an excellent experience. I rate the app and user-friendliness around Blink's level, another one of my favorite camera apps. With indoor/outdoor placement, the camera is also versatile so you don't have to worry about people not finding a place to use it. You could also spend a bit more to upgrade the camera with an extended battery and a solar panel, an effective combo if you want to avoid manually charging the battery as much as possible. It still needs a Wi-Fi connection but this combo is great for out-of-the-way spots like above my garage door or a high point on roof eaves. If you're thinking about getting this Arlo Essential camera as a gift, keep in mind Arlo locks quite a few important features behind its $8-plus monthly subscription, including smart alerts with object recognition and cloud video storage. So while the camera is usable without fees, there's a strong incentive to pay. Arlo does offer a free trial of its services but that could feel like a bait-and-switch to give recipients who aren't expecting a security camera. If you want to give the cam as a gift, you may want to add some PayPal or Venmo cash to cover at least several months of a subscription. If you're on the hunt for other options, check out our full list of the best home security cameras of 2025.

Prime Day Deal: We Love Lorex's Indoor Security Cameras, Especially Up to 29% Off
Whether you're watching your dogs or just for general security, it's not a bad idea to have an indoor security camera to keep an eye on your house even when you're not there. Amazon Prime Day is a great time to shop for electronics in general, as a lot of stuff, including home security, goes on sale. A good example of that is a trio of indoor cameras from Lorex, which are on sale for up to 29% off. Let's break down each deal. The brand's 4MP Pan & Tilt model is 29% off with a $57 sticker price, its 2K Dual Lens Indoor Camera is 20% off at $80 and the regular Lorex 2K Indoor Camera is also 20% off with a price of $48. All three of these deals are pretty good, and it mostly matters which camera fits best with your lifestyle. Some of the more expensive multi-camera bundles were also on sale, but the sales seem to have ceased as of this writing. Even so, the links are here and here if you want to check back later to see if they go up again. The deals are also available via Lorex directly if you prefer to shop from them. All three of the indoor cameras do mostly the same thing in slightly different ways. The most basic model is the $48 one, which is a set-it-and-forget-it type of camera. You can view what's happening on camera and two-way talk with people at the other end of the connection, but it doesn't move or do anything fancy. There is an IR night vision mode in case you need to check things out in the dark. Moving up, the Pan & Tilt model is the next option. It does what the first one does, but adds a pan and tilt function that lets you look around the room into any hidden corners. Finally, the Dual Lens version adds 360 degrees of rotation on the main camera while the second camera stays pointing forward, giving you maximum viewing. We're fans of Lorex here at CNET, and the brand is even listed on our best security cameras list, albeit their more expensive 4K model. The budget models are still great for checking in on pets for security purposes. We just like 4K a little more. In any case, Lorex cameras all share one function that we absolutely adore, and that is the option for local storage. You can pop a microSD in so you can record video, which allows you to skip having a subscription entirely. So, you get a camera at a discounted price and there isn't a nasty subscription hiding in the fine print here. If you're wondering which one we'd recommend, the dual camera option with 360 degrees of movement for $80 is hard to beat. Hey, did you know? CNET Deals texts are free, easy and save you money. Home security was a $35 billion industry in 2024, and it's expected to only grow over the next few years. These Lorex cameras are nice, basic solutions that can get your foot in the door. However, if you're wanting something with more features, we recommend checking out our best home security cameras list, where we go over indoor and outdoor cameras from a variety of manufacturers to give you full coverage inside and out. Best July Prime Day Deals 2025 CNET's team of shopping experts have explored thousands of deals on everything from TVs and outdoor furniture to phone accessories and everyday essentials so you can shop the best Prime Day deals in one place. See Now Why this deal matters Virtually every Prime Day is a smorgasbord of tech deals, so you've likely seen a dozen or more security cameras on sale already. What makes Lorex a good option is its blend of being generally inexpensive while also allowing you to skip the subscriptions by using local storage. Most cheaper indoor cameras require a subscription, so opting for Lorex can save you the cost of itself over the long term when factoring in subscriptions you're not buying. The cameras come with enough storage for a month, but if you want more, there are a ton of microSD cards on sale for Prime Day as well.

Skip the Subscriptions This Prime Day and Get Lorex's Double-Lens 2K Security Camera for $80
Choosing a smart home security camera can be a daunting process, especially if you're on a budget. However, with Amazon's Prime Day sale set to kick off in mere hours, you could snag significant savings as you secure your home. Amid the hundreds of cameras seeing discounts this week for Prime Day, Lorex is a brand you may not recognize yet, but it's quite handy for those looking to bypass subscriptions and cloud storage. When CNET reviewed the Lorex 2K Pan-Tilt indoor security camera, we were quite happy with its ease of use and value, and it won a place among the best security cameras for businesses. Right now, you can get double the lenses and double the storage for the same price. The Lorex 2K dual lens camera is 20% off for a sale price of $80 today. This camera option not only fixes the beta issues we saw in the Pan-Tilt, but it also adds smart lighting and a call button, which makes it easy to communicate with folks at home while you're away. The bottom camera is stationary to accommodate the call button on the front and the power cord on the back. The upper camera can rotate 360 degrees, allowing you to watch multiple parts of your room or house with a single unit. There's another fun feature: Hidden in the base is a ring of RGB LED lights, allowing the camera to act as a night light or a noise- or motion-activated light in whichever color you'd like. The lights seem dim in the promotional images, but can decently light the way across the house when you need to refill your water at midnight. The top camera will rotate itself to point straight down when you need privacy, but the bottom lens lacks a physical privacy cover. Hey, did you know? CNET Deals texts are free, easy and save you money. You can store footage locally on the internal 32GB of storage, which can hold about 45 days of footage. You can also store up to a year via a 256GB micro SD card or use one of Lorex's Network Video Recorders to locally transmit and store your footage without a subscription. Subscription-based cloud storage is also available, too, starting at $3 a month, but you can completely skip the subscription and still have access to person detection and animal detection as well as the auto-tracking panning. Best July Prime Day Deals 2025 CNET's team of shopping experts have explored thousands of deals on everything from TVs and outdoor furniture to phone accessories and everyday essentials so you can shop the best Prime Day deals in one place. See Now Why this deal matters Most cameras in the sub-$100 range either require a subscription or lack essential features, but Lorex's commitment to well-rounded hardware and practical software helps make this pick an even better value for budget-conscious or privacy-concerned homeowners. If the month-ish internal storage on the Lorex isn't enough, you can also grab some of the micro SD cards on sale for Prime Day, like this 128GB SanDisk microSD card, which can hold up to six months of the Lorex's footage.

The security camera I own is 20% off for Prime Day, and I couldn't recommend it more
If you're trying to make your house a bit smarter and keep things secure, then a smart security camera is a great place to start. I own the Lorex 2K Dual Lens Pan and Tilt camera, and while it might not have the catchiest name, I couldn't recommend it more. And given it's 20% off for Prime Day, there's never been a better time to buy it. Right now, you can score the Lorex 2K Dual Lens Pan and Tilt camera on Amazon US for $80 rather than the usual $100. That's a pretty solid saving on such a reliable bit of kit. Those in the UK don't get access to this deal on Amazon, but can still score some savings when they order directly from the brand. It's got the basics nailed with 2K resolution, and all the smart features you need. Local storage is ideal with a pre-installed 64GB microSD card, and there's a handy privacy mode where the camera physically tucks itself away. I hadn't seen this feature before and I love it. Set-up is simple, the app is user-friendly, and manual control over panning and tilting feels slick and intuitive. The live feed is clear with minimal lag and two-way audio works well. Auto-tracking is still in beta, but the feature manages to follow anything moving at a normal pace. While this camera may be better at manual check-ins, it offers superb bang for your buck. Plus, I love the fact that you don't need to pay for an extra subscription. If you're looking for an indoor security camera that plays nice, then Lorex's 2K Indoor Cam is also on offer. The smart device would normally set you back $60, but its reduced down to $48 for Prime Day.
