Traffic alert: Parts of Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge closed this morning

A section of Lougheed Highway is closed this morning because of a traffic accident. Shortly after 5 a.m., police issued a notice to commuters that Lougheed Highway will be closed both east and westbound from 287th to Jim Robson Way. There will also be a road closure on 240th from River Road to Hill Avenue, while police investigate a serious motor vehicle incident. Authorities did not release any information about what happened. A pedestrian was killed in a crash that shut down several lanes of the Lougheed Highway in Pitt Meadows early Wednesday morning. Ridge Meadows RCMP said officers responded around 2:40 a.m. to reports of a serious vehicle incident that involved a pedestrian in the 18900 block of the highway. They said the female pedestrian was deceased when they arrived. Lougheed Highway's westbound lanes at Harris Road were shut down and DriveBC said they remain closed as of 7 a.m. There is no estimated time of reopening and DriveBC said drivers should expect major delays on alternate routes. Police said they're investigating the crash and that no further information is available at this time. They're asking witnesses and anyone with dash cam footage to contact them.

Pedestrian killed, highway closed after crash in Pitt Meadows, B.C.

A fatal crash in Pitt Meadows has closed a portion of the Lougheed Highway Wednesday morning. (Courtesy: Drive BC) Motorists are being advised to expect delays on Lougheed Highway in Pitt Meadows, B.C., following a fatal collision involving a pedestrian early Wednesday morning. Cpl. Dave Noon of the Lower Mainland Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service said crews had been deployed to the major highway, also known as Highway 7, at Harris Road for a 'serious vehicle incident' involving a pedestrian. The statement, posted to social media site X, was made just before 4:30 a.m. An officer from the scene has since confirmed the crash was fatal. Shortly after 3:30 a.m., Ridge Meadows RCMP said Mounties were responding to a collision in the 19000 block of the highway, in a statement posted to X. All westbound lanes of Lougheed Highway have been closed. 'Expect significant delays while we investigate. There is no anticipated time for reopening,' said Noon.
