Republican files for Sanford Council
A Republican filed this week for the Sanford City Council.
Louis D. Williams, a carpenter, indicated that he will seek the at-large seat currently held by Linda Rhodes (D). The only Republican currently on the eight-seat council is Charles Taylor (Ward 2).
Rhodes filed to run again last week, along with several other incumbents, including Mayor Rebecca Salmon, Mark Akinosho (Ward 1) and J.D. Williams (Ward 3), all Democrats.
As of the noon Friday filing deadline, there were no other candidates who submitted a candidate form for the four open seats.
Rhodes and Williams will face each other in the general election Nov. 4.
Williams will face a challenge from Christopher Petty, a local realtor, in the Sept. 9 Democratic primary for Ward 3 in the eastern part of the city.
BROADWAY
In Broadway, Laura K. Duval (I) filed Friday morning. A retired town clerk, she will be in the mix for one of three open seats in a nonpartisan election on Nov. 4.
Others who filed previously include incumbents Thomas H. Beal (I), April Smith Collins (I), James W. 'Jim' Paschal (D) and Wendy Bryan (I), executive director of the Sanford Tourism Development Authority.
