Top Michigan Wolverines 2026 target, five-star Savion Hiter, sets commitment date
Michigan football has been on fire when it comes to assembling the 2026 recruiting class, but the biggest fish is still out to sea. The Wolverines have made no secret that there's one target they covet more than any other, and that's Mineral (Va.) Louisa County five-star running back Savion Hiter. Hiter has appeared to be a Michigan lean, but Tennessee, in particular, has come on strong in recent months. Ohio State and Georgia also remain in the picture. It's been something of a wait, as Hiter didn't even have a commitment date. But now we know when he'll make a decision, as he announced, via Hayes Fawcett, that he'll be making his college choice on August 19. The Wolverines do have one running back committed in Columbus (Ohio) St. Francis de Sales three-star Jonathan Brown, who self-admittedly noted that he's a bit of a project. Hiter is the type who can come in and make an instant impact, even as a true freshman. Here's his scouting report via 247Sports: Juiced-up running back with star potential for a College Football Playoff contender given the mix of his burst, power, agility, balance and vision. Has dominated the combine setting (1.52 10-yard split, 4.12 shuttle, 36-inch vertical jump) and is equipped with ready-to-play mass as he's already tipping the scales at 200 pounds. Effective as both an inside and outside runner as he's quick to chart a course and charge forward. Fast feet allow him to side-step trouble as he frequently dances around would-be tacklers in the backfield and turns negative plays into positive plays. Core strength and a lower pad level routinely negate arm tackles while full-speed cuts make it even harder for defenders to get him on the ground, especially when he breaks through the first wave of obstacles. Hasn't caught a ton of passes at the prep level, but has proven to be a tricky cover at offseason camps and looks to have true three-down potential as his physicality will only continue to give him an advantage in pass protection. Overall, should be viewed as a gifted ball carrier that can be a multi-year impact player on Saturdays and provide valuable minutes as early as Year 1. Must avoid setbacks and remain hungry, but profiles as a future NFL Draft pick with his size, testing and feel for the position. Hiter is rated as the No. 9 player in the country according to the 247Sports Composite, regardless of position. He's made it to Ann Arbor multiple times and has a strong relationship with running backs coach Tony Alford. The Vols remain the primary threat.

Police remove 88 children from church summer camp after abuse claims
State and county agents removed nearly 90 children from a Christian summer camp in Iowa this month amid allegations of abuse, according to local law enforcement. Camp leadership has publicly denied that any abuse occurred. Kingdom Ministry of Rehab and Recreation's three-week Shekinah Glory Camp in southeast Iowa's Louisa County was cut short June 12 and 13, when law enforcement executed search warrants on the camp and another property owned by a Kingdom Ministry staff member. The camp serves youth from Myanmar's Chin ethnic group who are struggling with substance abuse issues. The area is home to a significant Chin community, but youth came from around the country to attend the camp.

Michigan football to host 5-star WR Calvin Russell for key Victors Weekend recruiting push Michigan football is wrapping up its third and penultimate big official visit recruiting weekend, and while there are some heavy hitters on campus this weekend, there are due to be even more the next. This weekend was headlined by 2026 Mineral (Va.) Louisa County five-star running back Savion Hiter, who the Wolverines have long appeared to have the lead for -- but are fending off Tennessee, Ohio State, and Georgia -- but there were other big names on campus, like athlete Salesi Moa, too. But this upcoming Friday-Sunday is 'Victors Weekend,' the final push for some of the top overall targets for the maize and blue. And one elusive prospect, who may be just behind Hiter on the wish list, appears set to make it to Ann Arbor. A top wide receiver set to visit The Wolverines have one receiver committed in the 2026 class in Dallas (Tx.) Parish Episcopal three-star Jaylen Pile. This weekend, Michigan hosted four-star Travis Johnson and had four-star Zion Robinson visit in May. But perhaps the big fish is none other than Miami (Fla.) Northwestern five-star Calvin Russell. And according to The Michigan Insider's Brice Marich, Russell is set to visit Ann Arbor this week. Russell has been setting his visits week by week, so for Michigan to get a visit at this juncture is big news for the Wolverines. Scouting report The scouting report from 247Sports' Andrew Ivins: Hulking wide receiver with above-the-rim athleticism that makes him a uniquely dangerous target, especially down in the red zone. Owns more of a slender build, but has measured over 6-foot-5 multiple times and is blessed with a near 6-foot-10 wingspan. Isn't exactly the most polished route runner at this stage, but creates separation with unexpected suddenness for such a longer strider. Superb body control tends to create even more of a disadvantage for defensive backs as he wins 50-50 battles with timing and positioning. Not going to outrun every tackle, but is quick to hit the gas and can make some dynamic cuts in traffic. Spent much of freshman and sophomore seasons repping as a run first-quarterback out of necessity before settling in as a must-look option in Year 3 for a storied Miami Northwestern program that captured a 3A championship. Will need to add some body armour to a rather wiry frame in hopes of improving play strength and buy into the process at the school of his choice, but should be viewed as a potential impact pass catcher for a College Football Playoff contender that can be positioned all around the field in hopes of creating mismatches. One of those good-at-everything athletes that could legitimately play two spots in college as he's also being recruited by basketball high majors. Russell is rated highest by 247Sports, which has him as a five-star and the No. 21 overall player in the country, regardless of position. He's also the third-best wide receiver and second-rated player from the state of Florida. He's been to Miami the most, and he's coming off of his official there -- his seventh to Coral Gables. He's also visited Florida and Oregon three times. Russell has visited Ann Arbor before, having come to campus on March 17 of this year.

Davenport man arrested after he agrees to meet undercover detective posing as ‘girl'
A 25-year-old Davenport man faces felony charges after he agreed to meet a Louisa County detective posing online as a girl, according to Scott County Court arrest affidavits. Noah Garcia faces charges of sexual exploitation of a minor – cause to engage in act, grooming and enticing a minor under 16 – sexual purpose, according to Scott County Court and Scott County Jail records. Scott County arrest affidavits say that, on or about April 30, Garcia began to communicate online with a Louisa County detective operating an undercover account and posing as a 15-year-old girl. The undercover detective repeatedly, and in several ways, established with Garcia that 'she was 15 years old with the first such instance occurring approximately 4 minutes after initial contact. At one point in the conversation, (Garcia) refers to the 'girl' (undercover detective) as 'underage,' affidavits show. Affidavits show Garcia suggested that the 'girl' (the undercover detective) meet with him in Davenport, and suggested specific sex acts the two would perform when they met. About 4:05 p.m. Friday, May 9, Garcia arrived at NorthPark Mall, 320 W. Kimberly Road, Davenport, for their meeting. Garcia 'was seized upon entrance into the mall and found to have a cellular phone and a pink lollipop on his person,' affidavits say. A search warrant was executed on Garcia's vehicle, where officers found a box of condoms and a pair of loose underwear. The undercover detective and Garcia had arranged for Garcia to bring condoms, the lollipop and loose underwear (souvenir) to the meeting, according to affidavits. According to Scott County Court affidavits, Garcia is on pretrial release for a charge of lascivious conduct with a minor. Garcia, who is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 20 in Scott County Court, was being held Saturday on $250,000 cash-only bond in Scott County Jail. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
