Plans for new city centre 'cafe-bar' submitted

CARLISLE could soon have a new addition to its bar scene if plans for a city centre Listed building are approved. An application has been submitted to change the use of 2 and 2a Lowther Street from retail into café/bar, operating from noon until late. The property, situated on the corner of Lowther Street and Warwick Road, was previously occupied by H and H Land and Estates, The AGA Shop, and La Belle, and was sold at auction in late 2024. The application form has been submitted by David McCrone of Warwick Bridge. The description of the proposal on the form states: 'Mr Ben Greenslade and myself have a five-year lease for 2 and 2a Lowther Street, Carlisle. 'This building was most recently a fashion retail shop. 'We are seeking a change of use to a café/bar. 'We will offer coffees, cocktails, beer, wine and spirits.' The application states that signage will be installed advertising the business name as 'The Botanic Room'. It states that the decoration will be 'a botanic theme with oak panelling in some areas', with 'mood lighting and LED strip lights'.
