Celebrity Catchphrase host Stephen Mulhern left red-faced after suffering a hilarious gaffe
Celebrity Catchphrase host Stephen Mulhern was left red-faced after making the ultimate slip-up on Saturday's episode of the show. The host, 48, showed a clip of the latest guess the catchphrase question which featured a coffee shop with rapidly increasing prices. As guests Jeremy Vine, Charlie Hedges and comedian Luke Kempner watched on as the prices continued to increase through the coffee shop roof, the host failed to give them the opportunity to answer. Stephen said: 'Literally, the prices have gone through the roof!' A hilariously awkward silence then fell over the studio when Stephen realised what he had done. Then Jeremy, 60, jokingly pressed his buzzer and said: 'Sorry, what? Was that the answer?' Stephen, who was clearly in disbelief at his mistake, proceeded to nod before the studio, celebs and audience burst into laughter. He admitted: 'I have never in my life done that. In 10 years!' Luke Kempner joked: 'I was just thinking 'this is a very tricky one, if it's not that!' He then noted that the host had just bagged himself £200 for a charity of his choice. 'We've got a bit of Catchphrase history here!' Jeremy added before joking of the host's predecessor: 'Roy Walker never did that.' Stephen then managed to get his professional hat back on after the fail and proceeded with the game, which sees celebs try to win up to £50,000 for a charity of their choice. The show has proven so popular that it has just had the go-ahead for its 11th season, despite other cuts being made to rival shows on mainstream television. This has affected Stephen, whose other show, In For A Penny, was given the axe after six years. ITV commissioner Gemma John-Lewis said: 'We're delighted to announce a further series of the much-loved family favourite, Celebrity Catchphrase. 'The only show where you say what you see, the hugely popular series continues to win legions of fans and with Stephen's infectious and playful humour it's a firm favourite with our viewers.' The show first hit screens back in March 2018 and has featured many big-name contestants including Kelly Osbourne and Anton du Beke. Celebrity Catchphrase's predecessor, simply known as Catchphrase, first aired way back in 1985 when it was presented by Roy Walker. The show ran on and off until 2013 when it was revived by Stephen Mulhern.

Stephen Mulhern makes unprecedented blunder on ITV's Catchphrase
Game show host Stephen Mulhern sent celebrity contestants into hysterics with a rare blunder while hosting ITV's Catchphrase. The show, which asks contestants to identify a well-known phrase or idiom based on a short animated clip, featured Jeremy Vine, Charlie Hedges and comedian Luke Kempner on the latest episode. At one point, a clip was shown depicting pastries with escalating price tags, which are then shown bursting through the roof of the building. Narrating the clip in an effort to encourage answers, Mulhern remarked: 'Literally, the prices have gone through the roof!' However, he quickly realised that he had given away the answer in its entirety. 'Sorry, what? Vine remarked that the incident represented 'a bit of Catchphrase history'. Catchphrase first began in 1986 and was hosted by Irish comedian Roy Walker. He was succeeded by Nick Weir in 2000, and Mark Curry in 2002 before the series was cancelled that year. Mulhern began hosting the revival in 2012, which initially involved members of the public as contestants. Since 2018, the programme has featured celebrity contestants, who compete to win money for charity. Celebrity Catchphrase was recently renewed for an 11th series on ITV.
