Man United are left with huge financial hole after launching their new training kit - with 'no sign of a quick fix' as Red Devils miss out on millions

Manchester United have launched their new training kit ahead of the new Premier League season - but have suffered a financial hit. The off-season often provides opportunity for clubs to launch new kits ahead of the next campaign, with teams often donning at least three new strips in a bid to sell shirts to fans. The majority of sides, though, will also launch a training kit, which teams will be seen wearing during their preparation for matches - and also provides another chance for financial gain. Sponsorship-wise, one brand will often sponsor the playing kits and another the training kit. For United, though, that is not the case. The club have been in partnership with Blockchain company Tezos, which was worth around £24million a year. That, though, came to an end at the end of June. And, on Tuesday, the club launched their new training kit without a new sponsor - meaning they are currently missing out on a huge chunk of revenue that may not be filled any time soon. Alejandro Garnacho, who has appeared set to leave the club, is one of the stars who was chosen to show off the colours According to Manchester Evening News, United sources had indicated a new training kit sponsor would be agreed soon after Tezos' deal ended, but the new shirt has launched without one. United shared a series of photos of players in the new strip and other variations such as coats and jackets, including the likes of Luke Shaw, Mason Mount and Leny Yoro. Alejandro Garnacho also featured in the promotion snaps, despite being essentially placed on the transfer list and linked with a move away. It comes shortly after Marriott International's sponsorship deal with United also ended - with the company, regarded as the biggest in the world in terms of the hotel industry - opting not to renew the contract that had run since 2019. United chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been cutting costs since taking over football operations at the club, with a number of rounds of redundancies and other measures taking place recently. While there is reportedly no indication that United will find a training kit sponsor soon, they will be looking to recoup much of the money lost from the Tezos deal when they do so. Ruben Amorim's side start their Premier League season on August 17 at home to Arsenal.

Diego Leon aiming for first-team spot at Manchester United next season

Incoming Manchester United full-back Diego Leon wants to stake his claim for a spot in Ruben Amorim's first-team squad during the club's pre-season. United completed a pre-contract deal for the 18-year-old from Paraguayan side Cerro Porteno in the winter window, and an official club announcement of his arrival could come this week. Advertisement Patrick Dorgu, who joined United from Lecce in January, has established himself as the first-choice left wing-back in Amorim's 3-4-2-1 system, with teenager Harry Amass also being given minutes in the position in the closing weeks of the 2024-25 season. Luke Shaw, meanwhile, featured mainly as a left-sided centre-back in the last few games. 'I'm really happy, I think every player dreams of this,' Leon told Versus ahead of moving to Manchester. 'When you're a professional, you have to adapt quickly, it is a massive opportunity. 'Everyone thinks I'll go out on loan, but I don't have that mindset. 'I'm going to kill it in pre-season and within one or two games, I'll already be playing with them.' "Muy feliz, cada jugador sueña con esto…" 🤩 🙌🏻 Diego León y sus primeras impresiones antes del viaje a Inglaterra, el jugador buscará adaptarse al clima, idioma y al fútbol de ese país. "Tengo la mentalidad que la voy a romper en la pretemporada" ¡Con todo que, mita'i! 💪🏻… — Versus (@SomosVersusPY) July 1, 2025 Leon has played for Paraguay up to under-20 level and added that he wanted to break through into the senior squad at international level in the September break. He has played 42 first-team games for Cerro Porteno. United play Leeds United in a pre-season friendly on July 19 before in the Premier League's Summer Series event in the United States at the end of that month against West Ham United, Bournemouth and Everton, before facing Fiorentina on August 9. Manchester United In Deep Trouble If This Transfer Fails

BILBAO, SPAIN - MAY 21: Luke Shaw of Manchester United appears dejected alongside teammates as they ... More wait to collect their runners-up medals after their side's loss in the UEFA Europa League Final 2025 between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United at Estadio de San Mames on May 21, 2025 in Bilbao, Spain. (Photo by) In the aftermath of the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, long-serving left-back Luke Shaw was devastated. 'It's so damaging,' he told TNT Sports. 'I think not obviously just tonight, but also we know how big it was for the future, the things that come with winning the Europa League, the Champions League for next season. 'But it hurts a lot. To be honest, this season it's not been good enough. I've just said it [in the mixed zone], but I'll say it here again, I think us as players, we have to question are we good enough for Man United? Because this season is not acceptable. 'I think where we are in the league, the results we've had, it's not acceptable for a club like Manchester United that has won multiple trophies, that's always been one of the biggest teams in the world. 'At the moment, we're so far away from that, and I think us, as players, we have to take responsibility for that, because we're the ones that are on the pitch that need to deliver, and not just deny it. 'But I think it's been a whole season and it's been nowhere near good enough.' Shaw's statements were remarkable in their honesty. They were blunt and brave in the context of a devastating loss. Former Manchester United legend Gary Neville felt Shaw's statements were painfully revealing. Displaying more anger than we are used to, the Red Devils legend fiercely criticized the England full-back on his podcast, It's Called Soccer. 'Luke, it's not your job to determine that,' he said, 'A player at Manchester United should have no control as to whether they're there or not; the manager of the football club decides if you're good enough whether you're good enough to play in that football team. He will determine that. 'When the players are stating to come out and question whether they're good enough to play for the club you know how bad it is internally. Can you imagine what they're saying to each other inside? 'Honestly, I think you've got to wipe it out. You've got to wipe out every single player in that dressing room who doesn't believe that they've got total and utter confidence to play for that football club. But the club is eating them alive. It's too big for them and someone's got to get a grip of that club and I think it has to be the manager Ruben Amorim.' 'Amorim needs to look at how next season he can get into the top six. 'How he basically wipes half that squad out, how he transforms it into a dynamic team that plays exciting football from the rigid stuff we're currently watching him serve up. And he needs to think about which players in that dressing room can do a job for him. 'Cause if players are starting to question their own belief and belonging in that dressing room, they've got a huge problem.' Neville's assessment that Manchester United needs an overhaul is hardly a fresh analysis. It feels like that club has been trapped in an endless cycle of revamps since Sir Alex Ferguson departed well over a decade ago. The trouble is that nothing ever seems to stick. The foundations are upended because they are unsteady and replaced with an equally unbalanced structure. Manchester United fans find it difficult to get too excited about Amorim's overhaul, given the many changes they've seen. New Signings Must Work WOLVERHAMPTON, ENGLAND - MAY 25: Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford celebrates after scoring their goal ... More during the Premier League match between Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and Brentford FC at Molineux on May 25, 2025 in Wolverhampton, England. (Photo by) The first big task for the manager is removing the collection of once-hyped academy graduates and expensive flops holding the club back. Jadon Sancho, who cost $100 million, and Antony, a $112 million buy, both need selling at a considerable loss. Then, former youth teamers Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, who were at various times touted as the future of Manchester United, must be sold as Amorim has decided they are bad influences. Given the dire financial state co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has claimed the club is in, more players should follow them out the door. Speaking to the BBC earlier this year, Sir Jim said if drastic cost-cutting had not taken place, there would have been a cashflow disaster. 'Manchester United would have run out of cash by the end of this year - by the end of 2025 - after having me put $300m in and if we buy no new players in the summer,' he said. 'We are in the process of change and it's an uncomfortable period and disruptive and I do feel sympathy with the fans. 'The simple answer is the club runs out of money at Christmas if we don't do those things.' Given this stark warning, the pressure on the new signings Manchester United seeks to acquire couldn't be higher. Fans will take heed of the fact that Mateus Cunha, who arrived for $85 million from Wolverhampton Wanderers, is already setting ambitious goals. He is set to be joined by Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, although the Bees are holding out for closer to $100 million. Mbeumo will arrive with a proven Premier League track record from an excellent goal-scoring campaign. But succeeding in Manchester won't be easy. Neville pointed out, 'Man United has become a very difficult place for new signings to operate over the past 10 years.' Neither he nor Cunha is of the same caliber as Jadon Sancho or Marcus Rashford have been in their careers. Yet the bets being placed on them are huge. The risks if they fail couldn't be higher.

Inside Man Utd's post-season tour - Fuming stars, farcical scenes, stag do claim

Manchester United flew out to Malaysia and Hong Kong for a post-season tour immediately after their disastrous 2024-25 season ended, and some players were reportedly angered at having to take part Manchester United stars have been left "dismayed" after being forced to travel for the club's post-season tour in Asia, with some forced to cancel personal holidays. The Red Devils jetted off for a 150-mile round trip to Malaysia and Hong Kong immediately after their last game of the Premier League season against Aston Villa last week. United had only just concluded a calamitous season that saw them finish 15th after 18 losses, while they also lost the Europa League final to rivals Tottenham that saw them miss out on the chance to secure Champions League football. ‌ When they discovered the club's plans to embark on a post-season tour so soon after a disastrous campaign, a small group of players approached the hierarchy to express their dissatisfaction, according to Manchester Evening News, with suggestions that some would refuse to join. ‌ United ended up bringing forward the flight to Malaysia after their 2-0 win over Villa on Sunday to 'reduce the possibility of last-minute withdrawals', with even injured stars Luke Shaw, Matthijs de Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee boarding the plane. The report adds that some members of the squad were "fuming" that the club organised the tour after a gruelling and difficult 60-game season. There were claims by some players that the tour would be like a 'stag do', with some staff enjoying drinks on the 14-hour flight. On the first night there, players were allowed to head into the city of Kuala Lumpur - but sources say "nothing crazy happened", with players returning at a "reasonable time". ‌ The tour began in miserable fashion, however, as United lost 1-0 to Asean All-Stars, a team that had played one game previously - a 1-0 defeat to the Indonesia national team. Afterwards, there was "humour" on the team bus, despite being booed by fans. United did win their second game 3-1 against Hong Kong, which earned them a friendly trophy - one so insignificant it was carried to the dressing room by their press officer. ‌ There had also been farcical scenes that were widely mocked on social media after United's open-top bus ride around Kuala Lumpur, with Zirkzee, De Ligt and Ayden Heaven taking part. Fans have teased United for the move despite their dismal season, but United officials have insisted it was billed as a bus tour - and one that was lapped up by locals. The trip has not been disciplined as a pre-season tour and players were allowed to be more "frivolous". Alejandro Garnacho - whose future remains uncertain - headed out with Heaven on e-scooters. ‌ Meanwhile, Zirkzee was unimpressed by room service at the team's hotel so he headed out for a Thai takeaway, flanked by a security guard. Three players who headed out to Malaysia - Harry Maguire, Andre Onana and Diogo Dalot - were picked to travel to Mumabi, India for more commercial activities. However, they were happy to do so as it meant they were able to return to the UK sooner. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. ‘Really hard to face fans': Amorim admits fatigue after Man United loses in Malaysia, eyes redemption in HK

HONG KONG, May 30 — Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim said his team cannot hide after they were booed off in their defeat in Malaysia ahead of their friendly with Hong Kong today. Three days after they concluded their worst Premier League season with a 15th-placed finish, Amorim's team kicked off their Asian tour with a 1-0 loss to Asean All-Stars in Kuala Lumpur, with many among the 72,000 fans voicing their displeasure. 'It's hard to face the fans around the world (after such a poor season),' Amorim told a press conference on Thursday. '(But) it is clear, we cannot hide. 'If one thing is really important in this club, we need to face our fans in this moment, and give something to our fans around the globe. We want to do that, but sometimes it's really hard. 'We were not really focused in the last game (on Wednesday), everyone can feel it. In that moment I can understand the fans and the players.' Harry Maguire, Andre Onana and Diogo Dalot will not feature in Friday's match as they travelled to India instead for a club sponsor event. Amorim also ruled Luke Shaw out. Matthijs de Ligt, Mason Mount and Joshua Zirkzee did not play in Malaysia, but the Portuguese coach gave them a clean bill of health at Hong Kong Stadium for their final match of the tour. 'Of course the team is tired because we flew to Malaysia and with the jet lag we had a game in difficult conditions,' Amorim said. 'But we are ready to play again and are really happy to be here.' Hong Kong's coach Ashley Westwood, a former United academy player, suggested that Amorim's team would have preferred post-season rest over extra games and travel. 'If truth be told, no players want to do (a post-season tour), you want to recover,' Westwood told reporters. 'Most Manchester United players are reporting for international duty on June 2. They probably need this like a hole in the head.' — Reuters
