Ex-Rangers star John Lundstram ‘leaves Trabzonspor training camp to TERMINATE contract'

IT'S only a year since John Lundstram swapped Rangers for Trabzonspor. But it looks very much like he's moving on, again according to shock reports out of Turkey. 2 John Lundstram's time at Trabzonspor could be coming to an end Credit: Getty 2 Lundstram played for Rangers between 2021 and 2024 Credit: Willie Vass Lundstram, 31, spent three years with Rangers between 2021 and 2024. He established himself as a fans' favourite during his debut season as he helped inspire the Gers to the Europa League Final - scoring the goal that got them there by beating RB Leipzig. The midfielder moved on last summer at the end of his contract. Both Lundstram and teammate Borna Barisic were snapped-up by Turkish giants Trabzonspor. But it looks like his Turkish adventure could be over after just one season. That's because shock reports out of the country claim Lundstram is about to TERMINATE his contract. The former Sheffield United ace signed a three-year when he joined Trabzon last year. There had been previous murmurs that Lundstram's time with the club could be coming to an end. Turkish Super Lig clubs are only permitted to have a certain number of overseas players in their squads and Lundstram had been previously namechecked as one foreign player who could be moved on to make way for new recruits this summer. Now, several reports out of Turkey are claiming that Lundstram has left Trabzonspor's pre-season training camp - in order to TERMINATE his deal. Rangers transfer special assesses whether Conor Coady deal is OFF, if Hamza Igamane will leave and when the Gers can expect more incomings It's been reported by several outlets, including Karadeniz de Sonnokta and Fanatik, that Lundstram left the camp early before its conclusion on Sunday. It's been claimed further that he's doing so to bring his time at the club to an end in order to join Hull City. To join Hull, Lundstram would HAVE to be a free agent. That's because the English Championship club are currently under a signing embargo that does not allow them to pay a fee to sign any players. A contract termination would free up Lundstram to be able to join Hull. The Fanaktik report states that he left the camp in order to hold talks with the English club. Lundstram came through the youth ranks at Everton but failed to make a senior appearance for the Toffees. He had loan spells at six different clubs before joining Oxford United permanently in 2015. The midfielder moved on to Sheffield United two days later and proved a key player during the Blades' stint in the Premier League between 2019 and 2021. He then joined Rangers on a free transfer following United's relegation and headed for Turkey last summer. Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Ex-Rangers star John Lundstram eyed for shock transfer to league rivals – despite club being BANNED from signing players

The midfielder left Ibrox at the end of his contract and was quickly snapped up by Turkish Super Lig outfit Trabzonspor. After a tricky start to life at the club, Lundstram went on to establish himself as a key player. Despite that, his future has become somewhat uncertain this summer. Turkish clubs are restricted to having a certain number of foreign players in their squad and as a result, with the maximum number permitted 12. Before the summer transfer window even opened, there were 14 overseas players in Trabzonspor's squad. That meant the futures of several overseas players became uncertain, with reports out of Turkey naming Lundstram as one of the players who could be moved on to make space for new foreign signings. Lundstram's former Gers teammate Borna Barisic looks almost certain to be moved on and he hasn't even been given a squad number ahead of the new season. Even if Lundstram is to leave the club, he could still have a home in Turkey. That's because 61 Saat are reporting that the midfielder has emerged as a target for Antalyaspor. Ex-Rangers stars John Lundstram and Borna Barisic arrive in Turkey to sign for Trabzonspor However, it's a rather complicated one. That's because Antalyaspor are currently BANNED from signing new players. They were stopped from registering new players last summer due to owing money to a couple of former players. That left former England international Andros Townsend in limbo at the time, with the winger having joined the club just before the Fifa ban came into force. After a month of uncertainty, the ban was lifted and Townsend was able to start playing in September. But almost a year on, Antalyaspor find themselves under a transfer embargo yet AGAIN. According to Turkish reports, there are '11 cases' the club need to solve before the embargo is lifted by world football's governing body. Should the ban be removed, Lundstram is a player reportedly of interest to Antalyaspor boss Emre Belozoglu. Former Newcastle, Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid star Emre is preparing for his first season as the club's manager.

John Souttar 'targeted' by Trabzonspor as Rangers transfer resolve tested with contract ticking down

Souttar is into the final year of his contract with Gers and is free to speak to other clubs in January if a new deal can't be agreed John Souttar is reportedly a transfer target for Turkish club Trabzonspor - who include two of his former Rangers teammates amongst their ranks. Scotland international Souttar is into the final 12 months of his contract at Ibrox, with Gers running the risk of losing him for nothing next summer. ‌ The former Dundee United and Hearts star is back in training but has yet to feature for new boss Russell Martin in the pre-season friendly schedule so far as he recovers from undergoing hernia surgery in the wake of Scotland 's friendly double header against Iceland and Liechtenstein last month. ‌ And Turtkish outlet Ajansspor claim that he is subject of interest from the Trabzon-based club. They report that Trabzonspor both Fatih Tekke is looking to bolster his defensive options as sees the 28-year-old as an ideal fit. Were the move to happen, then Souttar could be reunited with ex Rangers pals John Lundstram and Borna Barisic. However it might not be for long, with Trabzonspor said to be pushing to get both players off the books this summer. The duo arrived in Turkey 12 months ago following their departures from Ibrox under freedom of contract. However, it proved to be a disappointing campaign for both, with midfielder Lundstram facing calls to have his contract TERMINATED from sections of the club's fanbase just weeks after his arrival following Trabzonspor's Conference League exit to Swiss side St Gallen on penalties. Croatia international Barisic endured a torrid year with injury and made just 15 appearances in total before being shipped out on loan to La Liga outfit Leganes, where he suffered a serious cruciate ligament tear that ended his participation in the remainder of the season just 10 minutes into his debut against Valencia. ‌ Turkish outlet Karadeniz claim that Barisic could leave the club on a free transfer if a mutual agreement can be struck. The defender has a year remaining on his deal and will reportedly require Trabzonspor to pay him €1.8million upfront to release him from his duties. Lundstram is under contract until 2027 and the report adds that while no offers have been submitted, clubs in the Middle East are keeping tabs. ‌ You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Rangers and Celtic pages, and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season. Turkish club looking to 'part ways' with ex-Rangers pair

According to Karadenizgazete, Trabzonspor want to move them on before the new season. Barisic, who joined the club two years ago, spent the latter part of last season on loan at Spanish side Leganes. Read more: Lundstram, who signed a year after Barisic, has made 44 appearances for the Turkish side. The report suggests Trabzonspor could pay Barisic €1.8 million to terminate his contract, which has one year remaining. Lundstram, however, has two years left on his deal and would need to be sold. The report claims he has received multiple offers from Arab clubs. The midfielder, known for his goal that took Rangers to the 2022 Europa League final, might be heading for a new challenge. Last season, Trabzonspor finished seventh in Turkey's top league and missed out on European football after a defeat to St Gallen in the UEFA Conference League play-offs. They also lost the Turkish Cup final 3-0 to Galatasaray, concluding a disappointing season. The ex-Rangers pair now face an uncertain future at the club.

Club try to 'part ways' with ex-Rangers duo after nightmare season

Barisic joined the Turkish outfit two years ago, but spent the second half of last season on loan at Leganes in Spain. Lundstram moved to Trabzonspor a year after the left-back. Now, according to Karadenizgazete, Trabzonspor are looking to get rid of the pair ahead of the new season. It is said that they could pay off Barisic for the last year of his contract, which would cost them €1.8 million. Read more: Lundstram, on the other hand, would have to be sold, as he has two years left on his deal. Karadenizgazete says he has received several offers from Arab clubs. The midfielder, whose goal against RB Leipzig sent Rangers to the 2022 Europa League final, has made 44 Trabzonspor appearances since his move. They finished seventh in the Turkish top flight last term, though, and were denied European football after losing in the UEFA Conference League play-offs to Swiss outfit St. Gallen. Trabzonspor also lost the final of the Turkish Cup 3-0 to Galatasaray, marking a nightmarish season. Now, ex-Rangers pair Lundstram and Barisic could be set to flee the scene.
