Luqman Hakim aims to shine with NSFC after European football stint
AFTER spending five years playing with Belgian club KV Kortrijk, young striker Luqman Hakim Shamsuddin is ready to make his mark with Negeri Sembilan FC (NSFC) in the upcoming season of the Malaysia League. He said that playing abroad since 2020 has taught him plenty about discipline, mental toughness and the high intensity of the game that he intends to put to good use this season. 'I believe that Negeri Sembilan is the team for me to play for in Malaysia. I'm attracted to the team because I'm confident in the management's plans, and I'm ready to play thanks to the guidance of head coach Mohd Nidzam Jamil. 'My target is to help restore NSFC's glory days. I hope Negri supporters can be patient and continue to support this team, as most of the players are new, so we need some time to play as a team,' he said after the opening of the Warrix Concept Store by Tunku Besar Tampin, Tunku Syed Razman Tunku Syed Idrus Al-Qadri, who is Negeri Sembilan Football Association (PBNS) president, here today. The 23-year-old said team understanding was crucial to ensure that the team achieves its goal of performing well, and said it was vital to translate the intensity of a game into consistent play on the field. 'The difference in playing abroad is the intensity of the matches, I realise the situation is different here and don't expect that it's the same as Belgium, but it will serve me well in helping the team create something positive this season,' he said. Luqman Hakim was the first Malaysian player to sign a contract with a major European club for five seasons in 2020 before he even turned 18 and spent the period playing for the main squad and the development team before being loaned to foreign clubs such as the Icelandic League's main team Njarovik FC and Japanese club YSCC Yokohama. At today's launch, Tunku Syed Razman said the Warrix Concept Store and the NSFC 'Hobin' membership card were important in strengthening the professional football ecosystem in the state. The Warrix Concept Store is a centre for obtaining official jerseys and sports equipment, while the membership card provides benefits such as exclusive discounts at selected stores, pre-sale tickets and activities with NSFC players. - Bernama

Negri going bullish in hiring top locals and Japanese players for new season
Fingers crossed: Negri Sembilan are hoping to sign striker Luqman Hakim Shamsuddin (left) for next season. — FAM PETALING JAYA: Negri Sembilan are making huge plans for a much better assault in the upcoming Super League season. After finishing a lowly 12th out of 13 teams in the top division, the Deer are set to make big changes in their playing and coaching departments. It is learnt that the club have recruited former Felda United and Selangor coach Nidzam Jamil to coach the team, and there could be new players coming in. The pick of the bunch is former Malaysian Under-23 striker Luqman Hakim Shamsuddin, who has played for several overseas clubs like KV Kortrijk (Belgium), Nardvik (Iceland) and YSCC Yokohama (Japan), before returning to Malaysia this year. Then there is national centreback Ahmad Khuzaimi Piee, who has left Selangor and is strongly rumoured to join Negri again for a second stint. The 31-year-old last played for Negri in 2022. Negri are also close to signing Kuala Lumpur goalkeeper Azri Ghani, Terengganu winger Hakimi Abdullah and Perak defender Ariff Ar-Rasyid. Club chief executive officer (CEO) Faliq Firdaus wants a better showing from Negri. 'Last season was full of lessons. The most disappointing thing is letting down the people who believed in us – the fans, the leaders, the sponsors, those who invested everything to see us succeed,' said Faliq. 'They say it's just a sport. It's not. For some, it's their only bread and butter. ''For others, it's their only escape from life's problems.' As for foreigners, the club are looking to rope in more Japanese players, after the impressive showing of playmaker Takumi Sasaki last season. So far, Sasaki has been confirmed as the only foreign player retained by the club. Faliq would be flying to Japan soon to speak to several clubs and hunt for loan signings. 'So far, we have confirmed trips to clubs like Jubilo Iwata (J-League Two), Thespa Gunma and Gainare Tottori (J-League Three). 'We are looking to loan players from these clubs and have asked them to send a list of players that can be loaned.'
