Malaysian NGO Plans 1,000-Ship Gaza Flotilla With Potential A-List Celebrity Support
Subscribe to our FREE Malaysia's Islamic Consultative Council (MAPIM) is planning an ambitious 1,000-ship flotilla to Gaza as a symbol of Malaysian solidarity aimed at breaking Israel's blockade, with potential backing from high-profile international celebrities. The organisation's president, Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid, revealed that preliminary outreach has been made to several A-list figures, including what sources describe as 'a world-renowned football superstar' and 'a prominent Hollywood humanitarian activist.' While MAPIM cannot officially name these potential supporters yet, Azmi told TRP that initial correspondence has been positive, with both figures expressing support for the humanitarian mission. We have reached out to several international personalities known for their humanitarian work. The response has been encouraging, and there's a possibility they may join our international coordination meeting in August. The meeting, scheduled for 8-9 August in Shah Alam, will bring together NGO representatives from West Asia, Europe, ASEAN, and Latin America to discuss the preparation and implementation of what MAPIM calls an unprecedented maritime solidarity mission. Azmi speaks at the Malaysian NGOs Charity Secretariat Setup Conference, held at the Mandhiyyah Hotel in Shah Alam, outlining plans for the humanitarian mission. (Pix: Fernando Fong) Massive Logistical Challenge The flotilla mission comes with significant financial requirements, with MAPIM estimating costs of approximately USD2,500 (RM10,612) per person. The organisation is actively seeking donors and contributors to fund what would be one of the largest civilian maritime missions to Gaza. Azmi said this flotilla is proof that Malaysia wants to move to a higher level. Bringing ships and facing Israeli forces directly is something that has never been done on such a massive scale. The mission represents Malaysia's most ambitious show of solidarity with Palestinians, going beyond diplomatic statements to direct action that could potentially lead to confrontation with Israeli naval forces. NGOs coordinate logistics across strategic routes. (Pix: Fernando Fong) Government Support Sought MAPIM plans to meet with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to seek official government advice and support, recognising that such a mission would require careful diplomatic coordination. Government involvement is important to ensure this mission runs smoothly and that Malaysia's humanitarian message can be clearly conveyed to the international community. The organisation has begun briefing national NGOs as an initial step, with more detailed discussions planned according to an implementation structure already outlined. The August meeting will serve as the main coordination platform, bringing together international participants to discuss field preparation and execution strategies. — Palestina Hoy (@Palestinahoy01) Mission Aims to Unite Malaysians Across Religious, Racial Lines Previous discussions over the past three weeks have laid the groundwork for the initiative, with MAPIM now moving into the operational planning phase. The proposal for 1,000 ships is an extraordinary message. It is led by Malaysians, Malaysian NGOs, and this should be a source of pride and a signal to all citizens regardless of religion and race – that in the name of humanity, we must unite. The mission, if successful, would mark a significant escalation in civilian efforts to challenge Israel's naval blockade of Gaza, potentially drawing international attention to the Palestinian cause while testing diplomatic relationships in the region. MAPIM has not yet announced specific departure dates or detailed logistics for the flotilla, with these details expected to be finalised during the August international coordination meeting. Its president, Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid, said the initiative represents a large-scale awakening involving international citizens to challenge Israel's illegal maritime blockade. The launch was made following Israel's actions in detaining and abducting activists including Israel is not only attacking Gaza, but now attacking the world's conscience. The seizure of the Madleen ship proves that no voice is safe from the cruelty of the Zionist regime, even voices from peaceful activists like Greta Thunberg. Thousand-Ship Initiative Under International Law Mohd Azmi added that '1000 Flotilla' is an evolution of humanitarian aid that mobilises ships from ports around the world to gather in international waters before sailing to Gaza. We will build not one, but a thousand ships. We will sail not once, but until Gaza is liberated. All ships will only carry humanitarian aid cargo and be operated in full compliance with international maritime law, accompanied by journalists, lawyers, and independent observers. MAPIM also put forward several demands, including the removal of Global South Nations Urged to Join Mission MAPIM calls on the global community, including humanitarian organisations, trade unions, religious communities, students, artists, and governments from An international coordination meeting will be held soon to begin the first phase of the 1000 Flotilla's voyage within the next two months. Gaza is our responsibility. Madleen is our child. Gaza is our trust. We will not allow genocide to become the norm. Every ship that sails declares: Gaza is not alone. Historical Precedent for Gaza Flotillas Such flotilla initiatives have been organised in the past to challenge the Gaza blockade. The most notable was the The flotilla was intercepted by Israeli naval forces in international waters, resulting in the deaths of nine Turkish activists and sparking international condemnation. Malaysians were aboard the Mavi Marmara in 2010, including humanitarian volunteers and media personnel, who witnessed the incident firsthand and testified about the events. Other smaller flotilla attempts have been made over the years, including the Freedom Flotilla Coalition's efforts in 2018 and 2019, though most were either blocked or turned back before reaching Gaza. The 1000 Flotilla initiative represents the most significant proposed maritime challenge to the blockade to date. READ MORE : READ MORE : READ MORE : Share your thoughts with us via TRP's . Iran Urges IAEA To Act Against Israel
Iranian Ambassador to Malaysia Valiollah Mohammadi Nasrabadi during the Solidarity Visit to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Tuesday. By Nur Atiq Maisarah Suhaimi KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 (Bernama) -- Iran has urged the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to take strong actions against Israel's blatant aggression on its territory. Iranian Ambassador to Malaysia Valiollah Mohammadi Nasrabadi said the IAEA should condemn Israel's actions and prevent further violations of international laws. bootstrap slideshow "Israel, as a non-member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), attacks the country which is a member of the NPT, so the IAEA must have a very strong position against Israel and stop them from this aggression,' he told reporters after meeting some 50 representatives from Malaysian non-governmental organisation during a solidarity visit at the Embassy here, Tuesday. The visit was led by the president of the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (MAPIM), Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid. To a question whether Iran will leave the NPT, Valiollah said Iran remains committed to the treaty. Iran has been a signatory to NPT since 1970. Iran on Monday said that the authorities will decide whether to withdraw from the NPT, following IAEA's report that found Iran is in breach of its nuclear obligations for the first time in 20 years. Meanwhile, Azmi said MAPIM will hold a peaceful rally in solidarity with the Iranian people on June 20. The group is expected to march from Masjid Tabung Haji after Friday prayers to the Embassy of the United States where it will submit a memorandum of understanding (MoU) outlining its stance and demands in regards to the escalating conflicts between Israel and Iran. Regional tension has escalated since Friday after Israel launched coordinated air strikes on multiple sites across Iran, including military and nuclear facilities, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory strikes. -- BERNAMA BERNAMA provides up-to-date authentic and comprehensive news and information which are disseminated via BERNAMA Wires; BERNAMA TV on Astro 502, unifi TV 631 and MYTV 121 channels and BERNAMA Radio on FM93.9 (Klang Valley), FM107.5 (Johor Bahru), FM107.9 (Kota Kinabalu) and FM100.9 (Kuching) frequencies. Malaysia Announces "1,000-Ship Flotilla" Initiative to Break Gaza Blockade
Kuala Lumpur - (Saba): Civil society organizations in Malaysia have announced the launch of an international initiative described as the largest of its kind. This initiative aims to break the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip through a global naval movement of 1,000 ships departing from multiple continents. This initiative is being hailed as an "uprising of human conscience" to support the Palestinians and hold the Israeli occupation accountable for its ongoing crimes. This came during a press conference held in the capital, Kuala Lumpur. Azmi Abdul Hamid, Chairman of the Coordinating Council of Malaysian Islamic Organizations (MAPIM), announced that the initiative comes in response to the escalation of the Israeli occupation and its genocidal crimes against the people of Gaza. He emphasized that the project is receiving growing support from organizations in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Abdul Hamid explained that the recent seizure of the Madeleine by Israeli forces has refocused attention on the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and has led to renewed mobilization among solidarity movements around the world. He added that the "1,000-ship flotilla" will be more comprehensive and coordinated than the 2010 Freedom Flotilla, led by the Mavi Marmara. According to a joint statement signed by dozens of Malaysian institutions, the objectives of the naval action are to immediately lift the blockade, secure humanitarian aid, provide international protection for the people of Gaza, and hold the occupation's leaders accountable for war crimes. The initiative also seeks to push governments to assume their responsibilities by providing protection for their participating citizens, which would increase international pressure on Israel. In a related development, Malaysian activists organized a protest in front of the headquarters of the Malaysian Investment Authority, demanding an end to relations with companies that support the Israeli occupation, most notably the American company Caterpillar, which is accused of supplying equipment used in demolition and settlement operations. The demonstrators considered continued cooperation with these companies "complicity in crimes of genocide." Meanwhile, MAPIM announced practical steps to expand the campaign's scope, including the establishment of an international secretariat and a financial fund to support logistical and technical preparations for the flotilla's launch, with open invitations to companies and individuals to contribute to the initiative's success. Observers expect the "1,000 Ship Flotilla" initiative to become a global focus, especially in light of growing popular solidarity with Gaza and the failure of international institutions to halt the Israeli aggression. This reinforces the need for independent action from global civil society. Whatsapp Telegram Email Print more of (International)

[Watch] A Smile Through The Rubble: How Malaysian Hearts Clothed Gaza's Children
Subscribe to our FREE In the dust-swept corners of North Gaza, where hope often feels as scarce as calm days, a small miracle unfolds. Five hundred Palestinian orphans, all under 10, are about to experience something that many of us take for granted – the simple joy of new clothes for Eid. This isn't just another aid story. It's about how thousands of Malaysians, through organisations like the Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organisations (MAPIM) and Malaysia-Palestine Workers Union (MPWU), reached across continents to ensure that Gaza's youngest survivors could feel the warmth of Raya (Eid al-Adha) despite their circumstances. BREAKING iof detonated Noura Al-Kaabi Dialysis Hospital in northern Gaza, destroying it completely! A residential building was reduced to rubble by israeli airstrikes this morning in Madinat Hamad neighborhood, north of Khan Younis. — Lee Golden (@LeeGolden6) Take eight-year-old Fatima. Dr Khalil Az Zayyan, Deputy Chairman of MPWU, told TRP that Fatima, displaced multiple times, had her world shrunk to survival basics until a volunteer handed her what seemed impossible – a new dress for Raya. Her reaction? She hugged it close, breathing in the fresh fabric smell, a stark contrast to the dust that had become her daily companion. 'Now I can truly feel Raya,' she whispered, said Dr Khalil, adding that her words carried the weight of a child who had almost forgotten what normal feels like. Beyond the Fabric: Where Dignity Meets Hope in Gaza The local volunteers, themselves walking wounded in Gaza's ongoing crisis, somehow find the strength to create moments of joy. They don't just distribute clothes; they distribute dignity, one child at a time. Their method is simple: personal connection, playful banter, and an understanding that sometimes, a new outfit isn't just about the fabric – it's about feeling human again. While MAPIM's broader vision aims to reach 20,000 orphans in future projects, this current initiative, which touches 500 lives, may seem modest. Faith, Fabric, and Fellowship: A Tale of Two Rayas But in the reflection of a shattered mirror, where a young boy sees himself in new clothes and manages his first smile since losing his family, the impact becomes immeasurable. For Malaysian donors preparing for their own Raya celebrations, these moments resonate deeply. Their contribution isn't just about clothing bodies; it's about wrapping Gaza's children in hope, one garment at a time. This is more than a clothing drive – it's a bridge built of fabric and faith, connecting Malaysian hearts to Gaza's hopes, proving that even in the darkest corners, humanity's light still shines through, one child's smile at a time. Gaza's Mounting Toll: A Crisis Beyond Numbers The conditions in Gaza are described as catastrophic, with significant casualties and urgent humanitarian needs reported despite recent aid efforts. Nearly 100 people have been killed in Gaza within the last 24 hours as Aid efforts have been halted amidst ongoing violence.
