Ye Fans Demand Refunds Following Chaotic Shanghai Concert, Member Of Rapper's Team Responds

Update: 6:00 p.m. PT (July 14, 2025) – One of Ye's musical directors reached out to VIBE regarding the Shanghai controversy and clarified what actually happened from an internal perspective. 'We put together a hell of a set and the show was incredible. [Ye] performed for almost 2 hours STRAIGHT in the RAIN only taking one water break, so he wouldn't pass out. Some of them production elements were first of its kind and have never been done before […] This is for sure going to be his comeback tour. Just need the world to be able to hear about it without the negativity,' the statement read. Read our original story below… Fans of Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, are demanding refunds after claiming the controversial rapper put on a chaotic show in Shanghai, China on Saturday (July 12). One reported attendee live-tweeted the entire ordeal and claimed Ye started the show over 45 minutes late. 'So I've been a fan of Kanye West since I was a teen. 'MBDTF' opened my ears to the sonics in music. Was hard to get tix for him in Shanghai but got it. Was hyped af. Couldn't even sleep night before. But. Worst concert I've ever been to. @kanyewest u can be better,' he tweeted with footage of the Chicago native performing 'Famous' into 'All Of The Lights.' The guest accused Ye of 'mostly lip synching' during the show and that 'his microphone must have been up less than 20% of the time.' During the encore, the rapper also allegedly 'disappeared for over 20 minutes at one point with tracks like 'Wolves' just played out with him nowhere in sight.' The tweet read, 'I could have just played your music at home man. Came to see u perform????' Ye reportedly 'stayed in the circle so nobody could actually see him closely even if you were vip' and 'wore a mask the entire show.' The guest claimed Ye 'kept stopping mid-songs' and seemed unhappy with the setlist. 'He kept complaining about the order of the songs and repeatedly started tracks and then asked to stop and come back to those later […] He seemed genuinely disengaged as if the show was some kind of contractual obligation. Only audience interaction was walking around and saying let me [hear] some noise,' the attendee tweeted. Other footage surfaced of guests demanding refunds. The initial tweeter concluded his rant by stating, '@kanyewest you should not tour. It's not for you. Stick to the studio. Drop surprise albums and be that guy. I'm the biggest supporter of (most of) your work. You waste people's time, excitement and money by pretending that you're a performer.' Following the show, Ye thanked his Chinese fans on X. 'Thank you to my fans in China and the Chinese government The energy was amazing Love all of you forever Can't wait till the next show,' said the father of four. He has upcoming shows in Slovakia from July 18 to 20 and in Korea on July 26. MBDTF opened my ears to the sonics in music,' one fan wrote on X, referencing West's 2010 album, 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.' 'Was hard to get tix for him in Shanghai but got it. Was hyped af. Couldn't even sleep night before. But. Worst concert I've ever been to. @kanyewest u can be better.' In a follow-up post, the frustrated concert-goer slammed the rapper's decision to perform live. '@kanyewest you should not tour. It's not for you. Stick to the studio. Drop surprise albums and be that guy. I'm the biggest supporter of (most of) your work. You waste people's time, excitement and money by pretending that you're a performer,' he added. In another series of posts, the fan accused the 24-time Grammy winner of lip syncing. 'Mostly lip synching. His microphone must have been up less than 20 per cent of the time,' he wrote on X, before claiming that West left the stage for 20 minutes during the encore. After the show — which marked West's first since September 2024 — one gig-goer said they had 'never seen such a poorly organized concert,' adding it was the 'worst concert ever.' On Saturday night, event promoter StellarAmberGroup wrote on China's social media platform, Sina Weibo, that not all visuals could be executed as planned, blaming heavy rainfall for the show's disappointing production. 'However, for this long-awaited return after 17 years, Ye's team insisted on prioritizing artistic integrity. After emergency adjustments, the show was delayed to ensure the best possible experience and to minimize the disappointment for the audience,' the statement said. 6 Fans claimed that West suffered from a myriad of technical issues, forcing the DJ to restart several songs from scratch. @__shouge__/X 6 The rapper's show on Saturday marked his first since September 2024. The rapper's Shanghai show came just days after his former assistant accused him of sexual assault, battery, stalking, sexual battery, sex trafficking, false imprisonment and oral rape in an amended lawsuit. In legal documents obtained by The Post, Lauren Pisciotta — who was West's personal assistant from 2021 through 2022 — claimed that most of the alleged crimes took place on a business trip to San Francisco during her tenure. Pisciotta, an influencer and former OnlyFans model, claimed she turned down alleged advances from West on numerous occasions. In her amended suit, the 36-year-old claimed that West — who shares four children with ex-wife Kim Kardashian — kissed her on the mouth and later masturbated while 'forcibly touching' her during a writing session in his hotel room. 6 West's Shanghai show came just days after his ex-assistant accused him of sexual assault, battery, stalking, sexual battery, sex trafficking, false imprisonment and oral rape. Kanye West fans demand refund after 'worst concert they've ever been to'

The Gold Digger rapper is no stranger to controversy, having previously declared he 'is a Nazi' as well as numerous erratic rants online. Ahead of the gig, Kanye, who goes by Ye, was sued by Lauren Pisciotta for assault, battery, sex trafficking and false imprisonment – which he has denied. However, his own fans turned against him in Shanghai, angrily chanting for a 'refund' outside the stadium. Ye, 48, was said to be around 40 minutes late on stage, prompting outrage from the awaiting crowd of 70,000 people. The Saturday night show was the first gig the rapper had performed at in almost a year, with his last live performance also in China in September. Timing is strictly monitored for Shanghai shows, with an abrupt cut-off should you start late, according to local fans on social media. Not only was he delayed, but the rainy gig was plagued by technical issues, according to The Global Times . The DJ had to restart several songs; meanwhile, the overall sound quality was not up to scratch, leading to complaints across social media. 'So I've been a fan of Kanye West since I was a teen,' said Fabian Lemuel on X, while sharing a clip of the performance. 'MBDTF opened my ears to the sonics in music. 'Was hard to get tix for him in Shanghai but got it. Was hyped af. Couldn't even sleep night before. But. Worst concert I've ever been to. @kanyewest u can be better.' DetroitShowtyme said Kanye 'finally showed up 40 minutes late' and added: 'For those familiar with the strict rules in CHINA, this time WILL not be added back. They will cut his show precisely according to schedule 🎬.' Videos of the crowd chanting 'refund' in English appeared on various social media platforms. 'Shanghai consumers DO NOT PLAY,' DetroitShowtyme continued. 'Massive crowd was shouting REFUND after Ye was late 40 minutes to his concert.' Others were praising the concert, with Gregor Estevan stating, 'they can't cancel the goat'. Event promoter StellarAmberGroup posted a message on Sina Weibo, a platform similar to X, in which they apologised to fans. 'For this long-awaited return after 17 years, Ye's team insisted on prioritising artistic integrity,' they wrote. 'After emergency adjustments, the show was delayed to ensure the best possible experience and to minimise the disappointment for the audience. 'We are deeply moved by the understanding and patience shown by many of the attendees and express our heartfelt gratitude. We also extend our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused and appreciate everyone's attention and support.' During the concert itself, Ye had a rare self-censor when he altered the lyrics of his antisemitic song Heil Hitler, which ends with a sample from a speech by Adolf Hitler in 1935 in the original German. He sang 'hallelujah' instead of the offensive lyric, which has reportedly resulted in the Power rapper being banned from Australia. Earlier this month, Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke told ABC: 'Once he released the Heil Hitler song, he no longer has a valid visa in Australia. 'It wasn't a visa for the purpose of concerts. It was a lower-level and the officials still looked at the law and said, you're going to have a song and promote that sort of Nazism, we don't need that in Australia.' More Trending Ye's wife Bianca Censori has family down under, so he had a 'lower-level' visa, which has now been revoked. The Shanghai gig comes days after Rubicon Festival in Bratislava, Slovakia, was cancelled for announcing Ye as a headliner. Artists were rapidly dropping out of the festival with fans signing a petition against the gig, calling his inclusion 'an insult to historic memory, a glorification of wartime violence and debasement of all victims of the Nazi regime.' Metro has reached out to Ye's team for comment. Got a story?
