McDonald's makes major change to its Filet-O-Fish for first time in 50 years – and it's dropping in just DAYS
The new burger will even be available for a bargain price on launch day LOVIN' IT McDonald's makes major change to its Filet-O-Fish for first time in 50 years – and it's dropping in just DAYS MCDONALD'S has made a major change to its Filet-O-Fish for the first time in 50 years and it's dropping in just days. The fast-food chain is bringing a brand new twist to the iconic burger for the first time since it came to the UK. 1 The Filet-O-Fish has been an iconic staple of the McDonald's menu for decades Credit: Alamy From 11am on July 1, you'll be able to get your hands on the Double Filet-o-Fish at any Maccies restaurant nationwide. With twice the taste, this new product will feature two delicious Pollock fish patties in crispy breadcrumbs, melted cheese and creamy tartare sauce in a steamed bun. This isn't a one-off either as the Double Filet-o-Fish will be a permanent addition to the menu. It will join other new items on the menu too such as the Big Arch. What's even better is that on launch day, for one day only, it will be available for just £2 when you order from the McDonald's app, which is less than half price. After that it will cost £5.29 individually or £7.39 as part of an Everyday Value Meal. And that's not all as a vintage character comes out of retirement to celebrate the new burger. Phil A. O'Fish has made a stunning return to settle the debate on how to correctly pronounce the product's name. According to new research, 33 per cent of Brits are pronouncing the famous burger incorrectly. And it's not just everyday diners who get it wrong either with Simon Cowell famously calling it a "fish burger" during a 2016 X-Factor audition. Nicole Scherzinger prompty reminded him it was the Filet-O-Fish so even the most confident among us can stumble over tricky pronounciations. The research also discovered the nervousness extends beyond just the Filet-O-Fish with one in five admitting to avoiding dishes in restaurants because they can't pronounce them correctly. And Gen-Z diners are the most likely to play it safe when faced with ordering a tricky menu item. But McDonald's have finally settled the score days before the tasty new burger becomes available so fans can order in confidence. So if you've ever wondered if its Fil-LAY or Fil-LET, McDonald's have now provided an official answer. McDonald's launches brand-new burger featuring never-before-seen sauce The correct answer is Fil-LAY and we're sorry to say you've been getting it wrong if you've been saying Fil-LET. So you no longer have to worry about saying it wrong when you go to make your order next week. The answer has united fans in the now-viral Facebook group, The Filet-O-Fish Society from 2012. In just a few days, the previously dormant group has racked up almost 3,000 members after fans flooded the page to share their love for the iconic burger. McDonald's are now looking for a new admin to take over from Phil A. O'Fish with a lucky fan to be in for a chance of winning some great prizes. This isn't the only menu change McDonald's have introduced recently either. Alongside the new Big Arch Burger, four new items were added this month. But the launch of the new menu means some items have to go. That includes the Cheesy Garlic Bread Dippers, Lotus Biscoff McFlurry Steakhouse Stack and the McSpicy® x Frank's RedHot burger. It is not uncommon for Maccies to switch up its menu to make way for new products.

McDonald's has ditched a popular meal deal and customers are fuming
It's not the only change McDonald's has made recently FEELING FRIED McDonald's has ditched a popular meal deal and customers are fuming Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MCDONALD'S fans are demanding the return of a much-loved breakfast deal that fans called 'a lifesaver'. The fast food chain has withdrawn its £2.99 breakfast consisting of a Sausage and Egg McMuffin with a hot drink, leaving customers angrily vowing to breakfast elsewhere. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 The sausage and egg McMuffin deal with a drink was popular among customers Credit: Handout One said on 'The only thing I would get from McDonald's recently would be the £2.99 sausage and egg McMuffin and a drink deal. "Now that's disappeared from my local, I can't justify the prices on anything else!' Another said on formerly known as Twitter: 'McMuffin and Hot Drinks deal needs to be brought back. "It was a lifesaver for people who are tight on money. 'I went to Lichfield this morning and was shocked to see it's no longer there. Went to @GreggsOfficial instead.' A third added: 'What's happened to your breakfast McMuffin and hot drink deal? Really disappointed it disappeared from the menu. 'It just sends me and others to @GreggsOfficial who do an amazing breakfast deal.' Meanwhile, a fourth fan fumed: 'Shame on you for taking £2.99 sausage egg McMuffin & hot drink deal off!! 'Do you know how many struggling UK citizens relied on this for a substantial breakfast? Now at £5, it's out of their range.' Another said: 'Rip McMuffin and coffee breakfast deal, you will be missed.' McDonald's launches brand-new burger featuring never-before-seen sauce It's understood the deal was a limited offer in participating stores, meaning it wasn't a permanent menu fixture. Last year, the same items were available for £2.79, but the 20p price rise didn't put fans off. Buying the same items would now cost around £4.80, with a sausage and egg McMuffin priced at £3.39 and a regular white coffee is £1.39. McDonald's is currently offering its Breakfast Saver Menu, which in some branches includes a separate £2.99 deal for a Saver Bacon Roll and a drink. A McDonald's spokesperson told The Sun: 'We know how much our customers enjoy our iconic breakfast offerings and it was great to see the popularity of that Breakfast Deal. "We're always evolving our menu to keep things fresh and exciting for our customers, and we regularly review our Saver Menu to ensure it offers choice for all.' In comparison, Greggs offers a breakfast roll meal deal for £2.85. This includes a breakfast roll with one filling as well as a regular hot drink or a 250ml bottle of orange juice. Other McDonald's news It comes as McDonald's fans were devastated after the chain stopped selling its triple cheeseburger. McDonald's also axed several items last week to make way for the new menu offering. Among them were the Cheesy Garlic Bread Dippers, Lotus Biscoff McFlurry, Steakhouse Stack and McSpicy x Frank's RedHot. The menu update comes after the fast food chain discontinued the Chicken Bacon Caesar Wrap last month. McDonald's said it was part of a 'rotation' of its wrap offering. The wrap, which combined chicken breast strips, crispy onions, rashers of bacon and lettuce, was first launched in summer 2023. Meanwhile, Tesco has axed its Pink and Cloudy Lemonade in a blow to fizzy drink fans. Tesco's Cloudy Lemonade is also being replaced with a new product called Lemon Zero.

McDonald's fans slam new ‘overpriced' menu item with some branding it ‘rank' and ‘messy'
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MCDONALD'S fans have slammed a new "overpriced" menu item, with some branding it "messy" and "rank". The fast food chain launched the Big Arch burger yesterday alongside a host of other savoury and sweet options. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 McDonald's launched the Big Arch burger in restaurants yesterday The never-before-seen burger combines two beef patties, white cheddar cheese slices, crispy onions, fresh onions, shredded lettuce, crunchy pickles, and a brand new Big Arch sauce. Customers can buy it for £7.99 on its own or £9.99 as part of a medium meal with a drink and side. Thomas O'Neill, head of menu at McDonald's UK&I, said it had taken things "up a notch" with the introduction of the Big Arch, adding: "This isn't about size, it's about flavour." Indeed, some customers are keen on the new burger, saying on Facebook they like the sauce and cheese while others have branded it one of McDonald's' "best" burgers ever. Read more on Fast Food HAPPY MEAL McDonald's launches new menu items today including 'iconic' burger Some customers have noted just how big the burger, which contains 1057 calories, is as well. However, others have been quick to point out some major flaws in the new menu item. One posted on the Snack Reviews Facebook page: "Very nice but very messy." Another added: "It's very messy, the sauce is nice." Meanwhile, a third said it "looks rank" while a fourth simply added: "Dog mess." Others have pointed out how "overpriced" the burger is, with one saying: "£9.99 for a meal now!" While another added: "It might be nice but just a semi posh up version of a normal big pay over £10 which for McDonald's is a rip off." Why McDonald's Cancelled Its New Drive-Thru Plans in Scottish Town (1) A McDonald's spokesperson said it had received "overwhelmingly positive" feedback from customers about the Big Arch. They added: "We designed the burger with our customers in mind and we're delighted to hear that our most exciting burger ever is thrilling burger fans across the UK - delivering on quality and taste! "As with all of our menu items, we refused to compromise on quality and as our biggest burger ever, the Big Arch contains more beef than other products, so the recommended price and calorie content reflect this. "Our customers return to our restaurants day after day as they know they can rely on us to deliver that quality McDonald's experience they love, at a price they can afford and we're committed to continuing that." It comes after McDonald's launched a major menu shake-up yesterday, which included the new Big Arch burger. Customers can also buy a Cheesy McCrispy burger, which costs £6.69 on its own or £8.49 in a medium meal. Halloumi Fries have made a return, with a regular portion costing £2.99 and a large sharebox £7.59. Those in the mood for something sweet can also try the Toffee Crisp McFlurry or Toffee Apple Pie, for £2.39 or £2.09. This is the full list of new items: Big Arch - £7.99 Big Arch medium meal - £9.99 Big Arch large meal - £10.79 Cheesy McCrispy - £6.69 Cheesy McCrispy medium meal - £8.49 Cheesy McCrispy large meal - £9.29 Toffee Crisp McFlurry - £2.39 Halloumi Fries (four-piece) - £2.99 Halloumi Fries Sharebox - £7.59 Toffee Apple Pie - £2.09 The menu shake-up has led to some fan favourites being ditched to make space for the new arrivals though. The Cheesy Garlic Bread Dippers, Lotus Biscoff McFlurry and McSpicy x Frank's RedHot burger were all served for the last time on Tuesday. OTHER MCDONALD'S NEWS The Sun revealed last month McDonald's had quietly axed the Chicken Bacon Caesar Wrap as part of a "rotation" of its offering. The wrap, which combined chicken breast strips, crispy onions, rashers of bacon and lettuce, was first launched in summer 2023. A spokesperson said: "As part of our regular wrap rotation, we've taken the Caesar wrap off the menu for now. "We're always evolving our menu with our customers in mind to keep things fresh and exciting." Last October, McDonald's announced it was bringing back its iconic McRib after almost 10 years for a limited time. It came after customers begged for the pork-based sandwich, which first launched in 1981, to make a comeback. However, it was quietly discontinued the following month. A host of other items have come off menus in recent years to make way for new ones including the fan favourite Chicken Legend. The Breakfast Bagel and iconic Sundaes have also fallen off menus since 2018.
