Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 18 (ANI): Mumbai City FC (MCFC) announced the return of Jorge Pereyra Diaz for the 2025-26 season. The Argentine forward rejoins the Islanders after a season with Bengaluru FC, marking a homecoming to the club where he left a lasting impact. Diaz was a key figure during his earlier two-season spell with Mumbai City, playing a pivotal role in the team's League Shield triumph in 2022-23 and the ISL Cup win in 2023-24. With 27 goals and 10 assists in 53 appearances for the Islanders in all competitions, his return adds a familiar spark and proven quality to the squad, as per the release from MCFC. A fan favourite in India since his ISL debut with Kerala Blasters in 2021, Diaz arrives with an impressive record of 32 goals and 11 assists in the ISL. A proven goal-scorer and provider, his return adds strength and familiarity, offering Mumbai City both quality in attack and a lift in spirit ahead of the new season. As Mumbai City gear up for the upcoming season, Diaz's return is a timely and strategic addition bringing not just excellence and experience, but also a sense of belief and nous. The club continues to focus on building a cohesive, well-rounded squad to take on the challenges of the new campaign. The talented midfielder joins the Islanders on a 3-year contract, an MCFC release said on Monday. According to the release, the 20-year-old made his professional debut for Electric Veng FC in Mizoram in 2022, before featuring for Oranje FC in the I-League 2 during the 2023-24 season, following which he played for Southern Samity in the 2024 Calcutta League. Manchester City reduce Premier League ticket prices for 2025-26 after fan protests

Manchester City have announced a reduction in their Premier League ticket pricing bands for the 2025-26 season. Ticket prices had led to supporter protests at City in recent months and prompted their April decision to freeze prices for the upcoming campaign. Earlier that month, many of the club's supporters boycotted the opening of their Premier League fixture against Leicester City. Advertisement Fans gathered outside the Etihad ahead of the match with the banner 'MCFC — For the love not the money', while hundreds did not enter the stadium for the first nine minutes of the match, causing them to miss Jack Grealish's opening goal after one minute and 49 seconds in the fixture. City say they have taken the decision to reduce price bands for 2025-26 following consultation with fan network City Matters. Matchday prices for lower category games will, depending on seat selection, vary between £30 and £50 while the highest category matches will be between £40 and £60. In a statement, City say that by way of comparison, their derby against Manchester United will see lowest-priced tickets reduced by 43 per cent from 2024-25, while higher priced tickets are down 22 per cent. City Matters said they 'warmly welcome' the news, which they believe will make the side's games more 'accessible' for fans. 'Through our dialogue with the club, the matchday pricing reductions, season ticket price freeze, release of new season tickets, and flexi gold season ticket fee adjustments highlight the value of fan voices through City Matters,' the fan group said. 'This announcement shows the club's commitment to City Matters and is a positive end to this season and our working relationship.' The group added they were looking forward to 'continued engagement and transparency with the club' in future seasons. ()

Experienced Goa not underestimating young Bagan; Mumbai takes on Jamshedpur

A young Mohun Bagan Super Giant side will look to book its spot in the Super Cup 2025 title clash when it takes on FC Goa in the semifinal at the Kalinga Stadium on Wednesday. The absence of key players did not affect MBSG, which defeated a strong Kerala Blasters side in the quarterfinals. Goa, on the other hand, relied on two late goals to secure a 2-1 comeback win over Punjab FC. Despite the vast difference in the experience and strength of the squads, Goa coach Manolo Marquez remained cautious about his opponent. 'I think that the game will be very difficult because they have nothing to lose,' said Marquez during the pre-match press conference. 'This is the reality. They have already won two trophies and have secured a slot for the continental competition. Honestly, I would like to be in Mohun Bagan's position,' he added with a smile. Both teams had to earn hard-fought wins in the last-eight stage. While MCFC edged I-League side Inter Kashi 1-0, JFC needed a bit of fortune to beat NorthEast United FC on penalties. 'JFC is a very good team. They finished the season strong and are having a good tournament now as well,' MCFC head coach Petr Kratky said. 'But we are ready to try and stop them from getting many chances. If we defend well and execute what we need to execute, then I am confident of getting a positive result,' he added.

Mumbai City edges past Inter Kashi and into the semifinals

A second-half strike from Lallianzuala Chhangte was enough for Mumbai City FC to edge Inter Kashi 1-0 in their Super Cup 2025 quarterfinal clash at the Kalinga Stadium here on Sunday. Unlike its previous match against Bengaluru FC, Kashi did not start well off the blocks and could not get the ball off MCFC, which enjoyed the lion's share of possession. On the other hand, the Islanders looked promising down the wings with Vikram Partap Singh and Noufal P.N. making darting runs into the final third, but could not find a way past the resilient Kashi defence. The most unexpected burst of action of the first half came from a swarm of bees that tormented the linesman and a couple of players on the far side, prompting the match to be halted for almost 15 minutes in the first half. MCFC began the second half on a much-improved note, with Mehtab Singh striking the crossbar with a header eight minutes in. Its constant pressure paid off in the 71st minute with Chhangte scoring from close range after latching onto a loose ball inside the box. Kashi never really got back into the game as MCFC dominated proceedings by passing the ball around to tick away the minutes and secure the semifinal spot. The result: Inter Kashi 0 lost to Mumbai City FC 1 (Lallianzuala Chhangte 71).
