#SHOWBIZ: K-Pop star Hwasa suffers burst eardrum during recent tour

SEOUL: K-Pop sensation Hwasa, a member of the popular girl group Mamamoo, has disclosed that she has suffered from a significant hearing impairment following an alarming incident during a performance. The 30-year-old singer revealed on a recent episode of the Crazy Rich Koreans reality show that her in-ear monitor exploded, leading to severe damage to her left eardrum. Hwasa explained that the unfortunate event occurred due to her habit of maximising the volume of her ear monitor to clearly hear the music over fervent fan cheers. "Often when the fans' cheers are very loud, I turn up the ear monitor volume to the maximum level so I can hear the music clearly," she said. Recalling the specific moment, Hwasa said, "While performing in Boston, the device actually exploded, damaging my eardrums and causing me to experience tinnitus." As a direct consequence, she now suffers from hearing loss in her left ear. Adding to the ordeal, Hwasa also endured intense leg pain during the same performance but bravely continued with the show. "It was so painful that I couldn't stand at that time, but I had to continue anyway. I couldn't let the fans down," she added, highlighting her dedication to her fans. The incident took place during the opening night of her debut solo tour, 'Twits', at the MGM Music Hall in Boston, United States. The concert featured a dynamic setlist comprising her solo hits, Mamamoo's popular tracks, and cover versions of songs by artistes who have influenced her career. Hwasa has an impressive solo discography, including the mini-albums Maria (2020) and O (2024), the single album Guilty Pleasure (2021), and chart-topping singles like "Twit." Alongside Hwasa, Mamamoo's lineup includes members Solar, Wheein, and Moonbyul.

Alex Cooper Shares the 1 Part of Her Docuseries That Makes Her Cry 'Every Time'

On Sunday, June 8, Alex Cooper attended the premiere of Call Her Alex at the Tribeca Festival in New York City During a Q&A session, she explained that the series was her way of giving fans a more complete picture of who she is The project originally began as behind-the-scenes footage from her Unwell Tour. However, as filming progressed, the scope of the series expanded Alex Cooper has long been an open book online — but with her new Hulu docuseries, she wanted to go even deeper. On Sunday, June 8, the Call Her Daddy host, 30, attended the premiere of Call Her Alex at the Tribeca Festival in New York City. During a Q&A session, she explained that the series was her way of giving fans a more complete picture of who she is and what her daily life truly looks like. The project directed by Ry Russo-Young originally began as behind-the-scenes footage from her Unwell Tour, which kicked off in late 2023 at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston, Mass. However, as filming progressed, the scope of the series expanded. Cooper found herself navigating significant life changes — from launching her media company, Unwell, to planning her wedding with film producer Matt Kaplan. The couple, who first met over Zoom in 2020, tied the knot on April 6, 2024, in Riviera Maya, Mexico. "When you're filming a documentary, there is a level of exposure that I wasn't used to if you're seeing me in my kitchen and I'm not just doing it for TikTok," she said during the Q&A. "You're really seeing me in my life with my husband. I know you guys know how private Matt and I usually are, but I think this was a goal to show a little bit more." She added, "In the second episode, you will see parts of our vows from our wedding, which makes me cry every time." Although Cooper filmed her entire wedding for the docuseries, much of it didn't make the final cut. 'I was filming it and I'm like, 'Okay, these people don't need to see my whole f------ wedding,'' she said. 'But it was so fun to rewatch it. I hadn't seen the footage and when I got the footage I was like, oh my God, this is so beautiful." But for Cooper, opening up on camera for this project came with challenges — particularly giving up her usual editorial control. When it comes to Call Her Daddy, she explained that she's used to setting up the cameras herself, then exporting, editing and uploading the content on her own. "Sometimes it's my favorite part," she said during the Q&A. "Matt always jokes and he's like, if you could not be on camera and you could just be the editor, I feel like you'd be the happiest person in the world. I love it. It's just been who I am to my core." "But I think it was good that I didn't do the edit — or you probably would've never seen this because it would've taken me 19 years and I would've said, it's not perfect. We can't put it out yet. So thank God someone took it away from me," she added. "So to have Ry there with the full camera crew and cameras in my face — people that I don't know — it definitely elicited a bit of nervousness within me because I am trusting, but I've always had the control," she said. "So to hand the keys over to this woman, I was like, please don't f--- my life up. And she did it. We made it." Call Her Alex premieres on Hulu on June 10, with both episodes dropping at once. Here's what's in store for the Stage at Suffolk Downs this summer

Now, on the precipice of its third season – and its most robust slate of shows to date – the Stage at Suffolk Downs seems like it's off to the races at last. The venue's 2025 calendar feels like an official introduction to its capabilities as an 8,500-capacity open-air space, able to wrangle both multi-day music festivals and large-scale outdoor shows from touring artists like Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up 'It took us another year to truly get the venue established out there, and we are really excited to launch an exciting and diverse summer of concerts in 2025,' Bhatti says. An appearance from alt-rock sisters Two festivals will also touch down in East Boston this year: a California-born Pride festival called , and the As the venue continues to strengthen its footing in the Boston music community, it also serves as a landing place for artists who are climbing the ladder of Bowery Boston venues, ascending to larger stages every time they return to the area. Bhatti cites Khruangbin as a prime example of this ongoing graduation; since 2016, the group has vaulted from cozier clubs like Great Scott (which has since closed) and The Sinclair to the mid-sized venues Royale and Roadrunner. When the band returns to Boston this summer on their 'A LA SALA' tour, their stop at Suffolk Downs will be the next logical step, both in terms of crowd size and setting. (The trio rocked Boston Calling last year, if that's any indicator of their draw or their feelings about open-air performances). The last time I heard a project on par with 'Handle With Care,' the year was 2014 and I was enjoying alt-rock demos from The Rare Occasions, a Rhode Island group who have since moved to L.A. and netted a platinum-certified single. Needless to say, the rough 'n' tumble alternative of The Ghouls's debut record gleams with promise, and I predict the Lowell band's cartwheeling youthfulness will nab them many honors beyond their current title of 2024 Rock and Roll Rumble winners.
