Bomb threat at Jaipur's Maheshwari Girls Public School, students evacuated

Jaipur: A bomb threat email sent on late Sunday night to the official ID of Maheshwari Girls Public School (MGPS), Vidyadhar Nagar, Jaipur, triggered panic and swift emergency response on Monday morning. Police said that the email, received at 12.25 a.m., carried a chilling message: "The bomb is in our body. We will be martyred and attain heaven." The threat was discovered when school authorities checked the mail around 9.15 a.m. and immediately informed the police. In a prompt response, more than 3,500 students were safely evacuated from the school within half an hour. Police teams from multiple stations, along with the bomb disposal squad and dog squad, reached the campus and conducted a thorough search. No suspicious object or explosive material was found. Vidyadhar Nagar SHO Rakesh Khyalia confirmed that the email also mentioned that the bomb would be activated through contact with the RFID system in the school. 'The school administration acted swiftly, and all students were safely evacuated. The cyber team is now investigating the origin of the email,' said SHO Khyalia. This is not the first such incident in the city to be reported. On May 30, bomb threats were sent via email to the Mansarovar metro station and two Jaipur courts. Extensive searches were conducted, but no explosives were found. Earlier in May, on the 8th, 12th, and 13th, the Sawai Mansingh Stadium also received threats. The May 13 email demanded justice for a rape victim alongside the threat. On May 9, Jaipur Metro received a bomb threat linked to Operation Sindoor. Again, no threat materialized during the police investigation. Authorities continue to monitor and investigate these threats closely, with cyber forensic teams working to trace the sources of the emails.

PWD begins demolition in newly built district hospital to add fire exit, ramp

Nagpur: Barely weeks after completion, the state-of-the-art Nagpur district general hospital at Mankapur is undergoing demolition — this time to build a fire exit and a ramp for stretcher movement during emergencies. The move, labelled as part of a 'Phase II expansion', has raised eyebrows as both features are basic necessities in a tertiary care hospital. The state Public Works Department (PWD), which designed and built the hospital, is now constructing not just the fire escape and ramp but also a mortuary, sewage treatment plant, laundry unit, modular labour room, modular operation theatre, and medical gas pipeline system (MGPS). An additional Rs15 crore was sanctioned for these works. Under Phase I, the hospital construction cost stood at around Rs45 crore, and the building was declared ready last month — over 13 years after the project was sanctioned. Despite the hospital being fully equipped and staffed, its inauguration has been repeatedly delayed. It was initially slated to open in early June but missed several deadlines. Final work resumed after pressure from the high court and elected representatives. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like [국가인증] 키성장 인증받은 '이 제품' 2개월치 무료증정 이벤트 곧 마감! 아이클타임 더 알아보기 Undo During a TOI visit, the hospital appeared fully functional, with clinical staff present in their departments and the civil surgeon's office shifted to the new premises. Beds have been laid across wards, but the facility remains without patients. The ongoing construction on the second floor breaks the silence in the corridors. PWD officials did not clarify why the ramp and fire exit were excluded from the original plan. PWD executive engineer Varsha Ghuse did not respond to calls. Hospital authorities say the two-storey structure — with a restricted 100-bed capacity — was entirely designed by PWD. The omission of key safety features is especially glaring in the wake of recent tragedies, such as the 2021 Bhandara district hospital fire. Officials now say the fire exit and ramp will link the existing structure to a 100-bed Critical Care Hospital Block (CCHB), currently under construction at the rear of the campus. The CCHB is being developed under the PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) and is in an advanced stage. The absence of basic emergency infrastructure, especially after years of delay and crores spent, has raised serious questions about planning and accountability in government health infrastructure projects.

COVID-19 cases cross 4.3K in India; cost cases mild and managed under home care

NEW DELHI: India has reported 4,302 active COVID-19 cases, with an increase of 864 cases in the past 24 hours, official sources said on Wednesday. Officials said that most cases are mild and are being managed under home care. 'Since January 1, 2025, 44 deaths have been reported, primarily among individuals with pre-existing illnesses,' sources added. As cases rise across the country, the Union Health Ministry has held a series of technical review meetings under the chairpersonship of Dr. Sunita Sharma, Director General of Health Services (DGHS), to assess the current COVID-19 situation and preparedness measures. 'The Union Health Ministry continues to closely monitor the situation and remains committed to ensuring public health safety through timely interventions and effective communication,' sources said. A mock drill assessing oxygen supply systems (including PSA plants, LMO tanks, and MGPS lines) was conducted on June 2, and facility-level preparedness mock drills were carried out on June 4. A similar drill is scheduled for June 5, they added. 'The public is advised to practice hand hygiene, cough etiquette, and avoid crowded places when unwell. Individuals with acute respiratory illness should self-monitor and seek medical care if symptoms worsen,' officials said.

Centre to hold nationwide Covid mock drill on June 5 for hospital checks

The Centre has planned to conduct facility-level mock drills to assess hospital preparedness on June 5, according to official sources in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This follows a series of technical review meetings chaired by Sunita Sharma, director general of health services (DGHS), earlier this week in view of the recent increase in Covid-19 cases in India. States have also been instructed to ensure the availability of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilators, and essential medicines. Sources added that a mock drill assessing oxygen supply systems such as PSA plants, LMO tanks, and MGPS lines was conducted on June 2, 2025. As of June 4, India reported 4,302 active Covid-19 cases, with an increase of 862 cases in the past 24 hours. Kerala topped the list with 1,373 cases, followed by Maharashtra and Gujarat with 510 and 461 cases, respectively. The country also recorded seven deaths on Tuesday, including four from Maharashtra and one each from Delhi, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu. Since January 1 this year, 44 deaths have been reported in India, primarily among individuals with pre-existing illnesses such as pneumonia, coronary diseases, and tuberculosis (TB). The review meeting was also attended by representatives of the Union Health Ministry's disaster management cell, emergency management response (EMR) cell, the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP). Central government hospitals in Delhi and representatives from all states and union territories (UTs) also participated in the meeting to evaluate the current Covid-19 situation and preparedness measures. State and district surveillance units under the IDSP are closely monitoring influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), with testing recommended for all admitted SARI cases and 5 per cent of ILI cases, according to guidelines. 'Positive SARI samples are sent for whole genome sequencing through the ICMR VRDL network,' an official in the know said. He added that the ministry continues to closely monitor the situation and remains committed to ensuring public health safety through timely interventions and effective communication. 'The public is also advised to practise hand hygiene and cough etiquette, while individuals with acute respiratory illness should self-monitor and seek medical care if symptoms worsen,' he said.
