MHS Unveils ‘MACS' Micro Aqua Cooling System to Tackle AI Semiconductor Heat in Datacenters

As generative artificial intelligence (AI) dramatically raises computational demands—such as creating over 700 million images within one week using ChatGPT (equivalent to the daily electricity consumption of approximately 67,000 U.S. households)—heat generation in AI semiconductors has become a pressing concern for datacenter operators. South Korean tech firm MHS is introducing MACS (Micro Aqua Cooling System) - a cutting-edge liquid-based cooling solution that utilizes a microchannel structure to significantly enhance coolant flow and expand the heat-exchange surface area. This design delivers performance that far exceeds that of conventional water-cooling systems. MHS is actively validating MACS technology through expanding collaboration with Korean AI semiconductor fabless companies, including Furiosa AI and Rebellion AI, positioning itself at the forefront of datacenter cooling innovation. 'No matter how advanced AI semiconductors become, without effective cooling, they simply cannot perform at scale,' stated Jason Lim, CEO of MHS. 'System availability ultimately depends on cooling technology,' he added. Lim emphasized that modern AI processors typically generate heat far exceeding one kilowatt, underscoring the necessity of liquid-cooling methods. While immersion cooling—fully submerging servers in dielectric fluid—is under consideration industry-wide, Lim cautioned that its 'high infrastructure cost' and 'management complexity' make it impractical for many datacenter operators. In contrast, MACS utilizes narrow (tens to hundreds of micrometers) microchannels, optimized flow paths, and capillary-driven fluid dynamics to achieve effective heat removal even at modest flow rates. Lim pointed to NVIDIA's AI H100 processor—which dissipates approximately 700W—and noted that future generations ('Blackwell,' 'Rubin,' and 'Panther') could generate heat loads up to 1 kW per chip, intensifying the demand for highly effective and reliable cooling solutions. In May, despite a global slowdown in venture capital investment, MHS secured Series A funding from WeVentures and Gyeongnam Venture Investment to accelerate the commercialization of MACS and expand R&D capacity. With MACS poised to meet the rising demand for datacenter cooling, MHS plans to expand its international presence and explore partnerships with global AI infrastructure leaders. Schools' alumni celebrate 63-year friendship

Alumni came from as far as the UK and Australia for the reunion in Melaka. Alumni from two Melaka schools – Banda Hilir English School (BHES) and Malacca High School (MHS) – gathered for a grand reunion. Some 136 old boys (and a few old girls) met up with 17 of their former teachers on July 12. Some of the former students have been friends from Year One to Form Six. The reunion, themed 'Splendid@Seventy' as most are 70 this year, was the seventh in a series of gatherings which began when the alumni turned 50 in 2005. The alumni of BHES and MHS held their bash at the New Lagoon Restaurant in Kota Syahbandar in Melaka. A large number flew in from as far as England, Scotland and Australia, while a few came from across the Causeway to join the fellowship of old friends. Before the sumptuous dinner, the old boys and girls observed a moment of silence for their many friends who had passed away over the years. Besides the catching up and merry making, there were also speeches by the ex-students and teachers and as well as performances. Class of 1974 MHS captain Dr Goh Day Way, who flew in from Adelaide, Australia, for the occasion, traced the group's remarkable journey which began in 1962 when they were just seven. 'We have known each other for 63 years and this is the seventh reunion with the record number of participants at 139,' he said. Dr Goh thanked the organising committee and a few prominent old boys, who generously sponsored the latest gathering as they did for previous occasions. Besides specially designed T- shirts, souvenirs given to participants were pouches decorated with the two school badges. The teachers, now in their mid 80s and early 90s, were presented with Thermos mugs with a citation that read: 'Tribute to a Great Teacher who has guided our hands, opened our minds and touched our hearts.'

Morgantown's Waylon Colistra talks confidence, preparation ahead of senior year leadership role

MORGANTOWN – Morgantown High School basketball's Waylon Colistra is one of the top players to watch coming into the 2025-2026 HS hoops season in West Virginia. The 6-foot-7, 190-pound rising senior forward made his name known two seasons ago as a sophomore, but quickly became known around the state as he played a key role for the Mohigans last season as a junior with a starting role. Colistra averaged 14 points, eight rebounds, and two assists last year for MHS, playing a key part in the Mohigans' run to the state semifinals. He earned all-tournament honors in Class AAAA at the state tournament and was also named an all-state honorable mention selection. Now, entering his senior year at MHS, Colistra will be one of the leaders on the court for his team and says he feels prepared for the task. 'I felt like last season went well,' Colistra said. 'We obviously fell short of our ultimate goal, but individually, I thought it was a great year. I've learned a great deal from many outstanding players and leaders over the past few years as I've progressed through the program. It was a great season and a valuable learning experience, marked by some excellent competition and exposure as well.' This summer, Colistra is playing with the Midwest Pumas Gold 17U team on the AAU circuit and has competed with MHS at the Hope Gas Shootout at Mylan Park and the 2K25 Midwest Live NCAA event. Colistra averaged 17.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists across four games, while shooting 62.4% from the field and 62.5% from three-point range. 'I really enjoy the experience I get from playing AAU and playing over the summer with my high school team,' he said. 'Getting to play in a new state against new players and competition that we've never seen really helps progress my game, and I feel like it's a time when I can work on different areas of my game with live reps.' As far as his goals for the offseason, Colistra says he wants to continue working on raising his stock in terms of his recruitment. 'That's important to me at the moment,' he said. 'I want to just work on getting my name out there while also progressing my skills and getting better at the end of the day.' As one of only three players in the rising senior class who played varsity minutes for MHS last season and one of two returning starters, Colistra will be looked upon as a leader and role model by others on the team. 'I'm excited to take on the role,' he said. 'I've had a lot of great examples throughout my time here. I hope to be encouraging and supportive to all of my teammates, creating an environment that allows everyone to be their best. Being positive and trying to get everyone to play to the best of their abilities is my goal, and I'm looking forward to being able to do that.'
