Govt has taken proactive measures to support mango farmers: Minister
Chittoor: Transport Minister and Chittoor district in-charge Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy said that the government was working with genuine intent to resolve the issues faced by mango farmers and has taken proactive measures to ensure that farmers do not suffer due to price fluctuations arising from a bumper crop. In a statement on Wednesday, the Minister criticised former chief minister and YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for using his visit to Bangarupalem for political gains, claiming the trip was intended to stir unrest rather than sincerely support mango farmers. He noted that while last year the production of Totapuri mangoes stood at only 2.5 lakh metric tonnes, this year it has surged to 6.5 lakh metric tonnes. To shield farmers from distress sales, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has extended full support to mango farmers by announcing a support price. Following the directions of the State government, district administrations are implementing necessary steps. The government is offering a subsidy of Rs 4 per kg for Totapuri mangoes, and efforts are being made to ensure that pulp factories and traders purchase the crop at no less than Rs 8 per kg. 'We have taken steps to ensure that farmers receive at least Rs 12 per kg,' the minister said. He also informed that the State had already written to the Central government last month, seeking Rs 130 crore under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) as the Centre's share. So far, a total of 3,08,261 metric tonnes of mangoes have been procured by traders and pulp processing units in the districts of Chittoor, Annamayya, and Tirupati. Among these, Chittoor topped the list with 1.65 lakh metric tonnes, followed by 45,000 metric tonnes in Tirupati and 16,400 metric tonnes in Annamayya district. An additional 81,000 metric tonnes of mangoes were sold to other States through ramps and market yards, the Minister added. Purchases have been made from 50,922 farmers so far. To protect the interests of Andhra Pradesh mango growers, the State government has taken steps to restrict the entry of Totapuri mangoes from neighbouring States like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Minister Ramprasad Reddy also stated that the challenges faced by mango pulp industries were being addressed. The State government has already urged the Centre to reduce the GST on mango pulp from 12 percent to 5 percent, he added.

MIS CEO says new data center expansion ‘among largest in region'
Abdullah Al-Ghamdi, CEO of Al Moammar Information Systems Co. (MIS) said that the expected financial impact of the agreement signed with the Saudi Data Center Fund 1 to expand existing data centers by up to 112 megawatts and explore the potential development of new facilities will begin to materialize once the company receives the first notice from the fund, stressing that the impact will be positive for the company's performance. In an interview with Argaam, the top executive emphasized that the contract marks a significant addition to capacity and represents a major expansion of the current data centers, which will help meet the existing demand from projects the company is working on. The CEO noted that the agreement is not limited to adding 112 megawatts, as it also includes potential for further capacity expansion, adding that the value of the agreement will be announced upon receiving the development notice. He indicated that this expansion is one of the largest in the region, highlighting that a 112-megawatt expansion is significant compared to other contracts in the region. During GITEX exhibition in the UAE, data center contracts signed were for 100 megawatts. Demand for data centers within the Kingdom is substantial and evident, driven by the rise of AI technologies and models, and the increasing need for GPUs and accelerator chips. This underscores the need for high-capacity data centers, both general-purpose and AI-specialized, Al-Ghamdi said. This expansion is strongly supported by the government, through the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Public Investment Fund, in addition to private sector demand. Government efforts align with Saudi Arabia's ambitions to become a global leader in the sector, as evident in the recent agreements such as the one signed by HUMAIN with NVIDIA and AMD to supply advanced chips and build a 500 MW cloud platform, as well as NEOM's partnership to establish a fully integrated factory and data center with a capacity of 1.5 gigawatts, he added.

Aadhaar biometric e-KYC now extended to RD, PPF accounts: Depositors can open accounts, withdraw without forms; Account closures and nominee changes coming soon
The Department of Posts has rolled out Aadhaar-based biometric e-KYC services for Recurring Deposit (RD) and Public Provident Fund (PPF) schemes, further widening the scope of paperless account operations across its small savings portfolio. This marks a major expansion of the facility, which was previously available only for select schemes like the Monthly Income Scheme (MIS), Time Deposit (TD), Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP), and National Savings Certificate (NSC). This move follows the broader adoption of Aadhaar e-KYC that began with the nationwide rollout on January 6, 2025, for onboarding new customers, according to an ET report citing the Department of Posts. That phase allowed creation of Customer Information Files (CIFs) and opening of single-holder Post Office Savings Accounts (POSA) through Aadhaar authentication. Later, on April 23, the facility was extended to MIS, TD, KVP, and NSC. Depositors can now open new accounts or carry out RD and PPF transactions at Core Banking Solution (CBS) post offices without the need for paper-based documentation like withdrawal vouchers or pay-in slips. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Limited edition: handbeschilderde boekmok – bestel nu! Delavou Meer lezen Undo What services are now enabled for RD and PPF via Aadhaar e-KYC? Starting June 27, 2025, post office customers can perform a range of operations using biometric e-KYC for RD and PPF accounts: Opening of RD and PPF accounts Deposits into RD and PPF accounts Opening and disbursement of RD and PPF loan accounts Repayment of loans in both schemes Withdrawals from PPF accounts (with no transaction limit) All services can now be authenticated using Aadhaar-based biometrics at CBS post offices, according to an internal Small Savings Scheme (SB) order issued on July 7, 2025. What's next: More services in the pipeline According to the report, in addition to the current set of facilities, the Department of Posts is actively working to extend biometric-based Aadhaar authentication for the following services as well: Closure of accounts Account transfer requests Updating or changing nominee details These are currently under development and will be integrated into the system soon, the order stated. Data security: Aadhaar masking now mandatory To protect depositor identity, Aadhaar numbers will now appear in a masked format (e.g. xxx-xxx-1234) on all account-related documents. In case the full Aadhaar number is printed on any physical document such as the Account Opening Form (AOF) or KYC form, postmasters are instructed to manually black out the first eight digits using ink or sketch pens. The SB order mandates: 'All post offices and CBS-CPCs must ensure that Aadhaar numbers are masked in all existing and future documents obtained from depositors, including copies of Aadhaar.' How the Aadhaar-based account process works Opening or managing RD and PPF accounts using Aadhaar biometrics involves a two-step verification: The postmaster obtains the depositor's biometric data to get Aadhaar consent and enters account details into the system. Before submitting the request, a second biometric scan is performed to authenticate the transaction. Once verified, the account is opened or updated without the need for physical pay-in slips or withdrawal forms. For initial deposits, the amount entered in the depositor's AOF will be treated as the credited amount. If the depositor chooses to fund the account using their Post Office Savings Account (POSA), the debit account must be either a single or joint B-type account in the depositor's name. Even in such cases, no physical withdrawal form (SB-7) is required since Aadhaar biometric authentication confirms the request. This streamlined digital process aligns with the Department of Posts' broader push for technology-led banking and aims to make small savings schemes more accessible, particularly in rural areas. State seeks Rs 1,110 cr Central aid to expand micro-irrigation network
Vijayawada: In a crucial meeting held in New Delhi, Andhra Pradesh agriculture and animal husbandry minister K Atchannaidu met Union agriculture and farmers welfare minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. He submitted a comprehensive representation on two key issues—price support for Totapuri mango farmers in the erstwhile Chittoor district and enhanced subsidy for micro-irrigation schemes in the state's backward districts. Atchannaidu emphasised that Totapuri mango growers were reeling under heavy losses due to excessive production and stock accumulation in pulp factories, leading to a market crash. To protect the interests of farmers, the Andhra Pradesh government launched a procurement scheme under which mangoes are being purchased at RS 12 per kg— Rs 8 from traders/factories and Rs 4 from the government. The state sought ₹260 crore in financial assistance under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) from the Centre, requesting 100% central funding instead of the standard 50:50 share. The minister also highlighted that nearly 6.5 lakh metric tonnes of mangoes are expected to be procured this season at a total cost of ₹780 crore. He urged the Union Minister to allow the scheme to run until August 2025, depending on market needs. Additionally, Atchannaidu sought a policy revision for micro-irrigation subsidies in the eight backward districts of Andhra Pradesh. He requested an increase from the current 55% subsidy (33% GoI + 22% State share) to 90% (54% GoI + 36% State share) to support small and marginal farmers who cannot afford the current 45% farmer contribution. He also asked for ₹1,110 crore as additional central assistance, similar to the Bundelkhand model. The Andhra Pradesh government aims to expand micro-irrigation to 15 lakh hectares over five years, with a goal of achieving 15% growth in the horticulture sector.

Andhra's mango procurement sets model for other states
Tirupati/Chittoor: After chilli and tobacco farmers, mango growers are now in focus as YSRCP chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy looks to raise the political heat in the state. A bumper mango yield this year has brought little joy to farmers, who are struggling with falling prices. Despite the state government's swift action, announcing subsidies and deploying officials to assist distressed farmers, the issue has turned political. Looking to capitalise on the unrest, Jagan will visit Bangarupalem market yard on July 9 to console mango farmers. In fact, the government claims that Andhra Pradesh's proactive, farmer-centric approach to supporting Totapuri mango growers is emerging as a model for other states. It has stepped in not just with aid, but with reassurance, encouraging farmers and helping them cope with the current crisis. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu met with the farmers and pulp units' representatives in Kuppam during his recent visit and created confidence among them. He categorically told the pulp units that the government will provide whatever help they needed and even wrote to the centre to reduce the GST on pulp products. Tirupati and Chittoor collectors Dr S Venkateswar and Sumit Kumar have assured that procurement is in full swing and that the promised subsidy will be provided without any cap on quantity or time. Totapuri mango cultivation is a major agricultural activity in the state, with mango crops grown across 3.98 lakh hectares, yielding an estimated 49.85 lakh metric tonnes (MT) and a productivity rate of 12.5 MT per hectare. The erstwhile Chittoor district — now divided into Chittoor, Tirupati, and Annamayya — is a key production hub for Totapuri mangoes, with around 80,000 hectares under cultivation and nearly 76,700 farmers engaged in the activity. Tirupati district alone accounts for 14,582 hectares with a projected yield of 1.45 lakh MT this season. Following multiple review meetings held in May at both district and state levels, on June 6, the Chief Minister announced a subsidy of Rs 4 per kilogram for Totapuri mangoes. This brought the total procurement price to Rs 12 per kilogram, with Rs 8 to be paid by processors or traders. It is worth noting that while the neighbouring state of Karnataka limits its procurement to just one month, Andhra Pradesh has committed to continue the process until the last fruit is procured in July and August. Moreover, Karnataka has capped procurement at 4 MT per hectare, whereas Andhra Pradesh has imposed no such restrictions. A proposal has also been submitted to the Union minister for agriculture, seeking the release of Rs 130 crore under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) to further stabilise the market. The Collectors said that these steps are aimed at shielding farmers from global and national market fluctuations beyond their control. Procurement of Totapuri mangoes began on June 9. As of July 5, 67,980 MT of mangoes have been procured from 10,046 farmers in Tirupati district, while Chittoor district saw procurement of 2.23 lakh MT from 38,706 farmers. The Collectors said that every effort is being made to ensure that no farmer is left behind and that all produce is procured without any problem. Meanwhile, the police imposed restrictions on Jagan's visit, permitting only 500 people inside the market and 30 at the helipad due to space limitations. However, YSRCP leaders have claimed that around 10,000 party workers are expected to attend the event and have urged the police to make necessary arrangements accordingly.
