Floyd Shivambu now slams MK Party as Jacob Zuma 'family stokvel'
Former MK Party secretary-general Floyd Shivambu has denounced the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party under Jacob Zuma as a 'family stokvel,' accusing its leadership of looting party coffers for personal gain. Shivambu, who is now the national convenor of the Mayibuye Consultative Process, had previously describing joining the MK Party as the best decision ever. After allegations he plotted against Zuma, Shivambu refused to resign and launched the Mayibuye consultation process to engage traditional and civic leaders across South Africa. He was speaking in Mpumalanga this weekend when he denounced the MK Party, the ANC and the EFF.

MK Party wants secret ballot for Ramaphosa no-confidence vote
The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has requested that the Motion of No Confidence against President Cyril Ramaphosa be conducted via a secret ballot. The party's parliamentary leader, Dr John Hlophe, wrote a formal request to the Speaker of Parliament, Thoko Didiza. He believes that a secret ballot will ensure that Members of Parliament (MPs) can exercise their constitutional duty freely, without fear of intimidation. According to Hlophe, the request aligns with Rule 129 of the National Assembly Rules. Given the sensitive nature of the motion, the MK Party believes a secret ballot is necessary to protect the integrity of the process. Hlophe said the ballot must reflect principles of accountability and transparency, and protect MPs' freedom to vote according to their conscience. 'A secret ballot will safeguard the integrity of the voting process and ensure that the outcome reflects the true will of the MP,' said Hlophe. Hlophe further called on Speaker Didiza to consult with relevant stakeholders and to make an urgent decision on the matter. The MK Party filed the motion on Tuesday, 22 July. The party cited President Ramaphosa's dismissal of Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and the appointment of Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia as the basis for its action. Rachid Talbi El Alami Receives Former South African President Jacob Zuma
Rabat – The President of Morocco's House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami, met on Thursday in Rabat with former South African President and leader of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, Jacob Zuma, who is visiting Morocco with an accompanying delegation. The meeting brought together the presidents of the parliamentary groups and caucuses within the House of Representatives. According to a statement from the chamber, the discussions highlighted Zuma and his party's clear position in support of Morocco's Autonomy Plan for the Sahara. They emphasized that the plan offers a concrete framework for local governance by the populations of the region, while safeguarding Morocco's sovereignty over its territories. Zuma and his delegation acknowledged the historical and legal context underpinning Morocco's claim to the Sahara, stressing that Morocco's efforts to recover its territorial integrity align with the MK Party's commitment to protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of African nations. The talks also highlighted Morocco's Africa-focused policy under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, a policy rooted in solidarity, fostering development across the continent, and promoting South-South cooperation, all while respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and refraining from interfering in their internal affairs. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss shared parliamentary interests and to express the Moroccan parliament's willingness to strengthen ties with South African lawmakers at both bilateral and multilateral levels. Also in attendance were Mohamed Chaouki (National Rally of Independents group), Abderrahim Bouazza (Authenticity and Modernity group), Allal Amraoui (Istiqlal Party group), Abderrahim Chahid (Socialist–Ittihadi Opposition group), Driss Sentissi (Haraki group), Rachid Hamouni (Progress and Socialism group), and Abdellah Bouanou (Justice and Development parliamentary caucus).

Political parties bemoan Parliament's over R500 million budget shortfall
CAPE TOWN - Political parties have bemoaned a budget shortfall of more than R500 million for Parliament, saying it will seriously hamper its work of being a voice for the people and an effective oversight body for the executive. The official opposition, the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, has suggested that money to be used on a new commission of inquiry into the police should instead be diverted to Parliament. Introspecting on its own performance during debate on the R3.6 billion budget vote of Parliament, parties across the divide said that public confidence in the legislature is at an all-time low. Parliament is failing to match the pace in responding to societal developments. The MK Party's Des van Rooyen said it's scandalous that Parliament has to plead poverty and be reliant on an executive it oversees for its budget. The African Transformation Movement (ATM)'s Vuyo Zungula agreed. With parliamentary committees each allocated a budget of R3 million for the year, the Freedom Front (FF) Plus's chief whip, Heloise Denner, said public participation is being treated as a rubber stamp and a box-ticking exercise. 'The voice on whose behalf we do this work is lost and ignored for the sake of political point scoring.' Build On South Africa (BOSA)'s Nobuntu Hlazo-Webster said Parliament appeared hesitant to rise to the occasion, and instead, the citizenry is leading from the streets. 'This failure is clearest in Parliament's unwillingness to launch a proper inquiry into Minister Nobuhle Nkabane's involvement in the SETA [Sector Education and Training Authority] board scandal.' ActionSA's Kgosi Letlape said his party would not support an underfunded budget because Parliament is setting itself up for failure. RISE Mzansi's Makashule Gana said Parliament had to find its backbone in this administration, with public perception growing that it's been too soft on the executive and officials who fail to deliver.

South Africa's MK Party Recognizes Morocco's Sovereignty Over Western Sahara
Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita met on Tuesday with former South African President Jacob Zuma, leader of the newly formed uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, in Rabat. The meeting marked a significant shift in South Africa's political stance, as Zuma's party officially recognized Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara and endorsed the Autonomy Plan as a viable solution to the regional dispute. The visit builds on previous diplomatic overtures, including Zuma's meeting with King Mohammed VI in 2017 during the African Union summit in Côte d'Ivoire, where both sides agreed to open a new chapter in bilateral relations. In a joint appearance, Zuma emphasized the long-standing ties between Morocco and South Africa, recalling the North African country's support for anti-apartheid movements. 'We are here in our country that we have been with for years,' he said, noting historical exchanges and shared visions. 'We believe that Africa must do better, and we believe that we are going to succeed in doing so.' An official statement on behalf of the MK Party stated, 'We are very delighted and honored to be here in Rabat to deepen the historical bond between our two countries,' recalling Nelson Mandela's 1962 training in Oujda and the support Morocco extended to liberation movements across the continent. A 'balanced path' toward stability and peace The statement described the MK Party's stance as part of a broader effort to 'bring a practical solution to the long-standing debacle on the future of the Western Sahara region.' 'Our party believes that this autonomy proposal allows for significant local governance by the people of the Western Sahara region while ensuring that Morocco retains its crucial sovereignty,' the statement affirmed. 'This approach offers a balanced path forward that promotes both stability, peace and development in the region.' The statement also urged the international community to support the Moroccan Autonomy Plan, saying it is the most effective route toward lasting peace and prosperity in Western Sahara. 'This echoes more than ever with South Africa as our country battles against internal forces aimed at breaking our territorial integrity,' he added. The MK Party's endorsement marks a stark departure from the traditional position of South Africa's ruling African National Congress (ANC), which has long backed the Polisario Front. Zuma's move may signal a growing divergence within South African politics regarding Western Sahara and broader continental alliances. The statement concluded with a firm recognition of Morocco's territorial claims: 'Morocco's effort to reclaim its full territorial integrity aligns with our party's commitment to preserving the sovereignty and the unity of the African state.'
