Washington Nationals All-Star Emerges as Surprising Trade Deadline Candidate
Will a first-time All-Star for the Washington Nationals be on the move at the trade deadline? According to reporter Mark Feinsand, it's a real possibility. Feinsand reports that pitcher MacKenzie Gore, who was involved in the Juan Soto blockbuster trade in 2022, has been mentioned as a 'potential' trade candidate. The 26-year-old Gore has emerged as an ace in his fourth MLB season. He has a 3.02 ERA, 133 ERA+, 2.91 FIP, 1.196 WHIP and 3.6 bWAR across 19 starts and 110 1/3 innings this season. Gore is also third in the National League in strikeouts with 138. With the Nationals recently firing general manager Mike Rizzo, Washington's new front office could be inclined to part with Gore since he's under club control through 2027. The southpaw would bring back a significant haul of prospects from a playoff contender looking to upgrade their starting rotation. Gore told Feinsand ahead of the All-Star game he's not putting too much merit into the trade rumors. 'Having been traded before, it's just one of those things you don't even think about,' Gore explained. 'You love the guys you're around and you grow as a group with these guys, but I'm just trying to stack good starts and whatever happens, happens.' Even though Gore hasn't been linked to any teams publicly, those looking for starting pitching at the deadline include the New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his first four seasons, Gore is 25-34 with a 3.93 ERA, 103 ERA+, 3.86 FIP, 1.371 WHIP and 542 strikeouts in 483 innings. Two Yankees draft picks following MLB fathers' footsteps: ‘That's an advantage'
Access the Yankees beat like never before Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Greg Joyce about the inside buzz on the Yankees. Try it free Drafting prospects with big league pedigrees has fostered numerous success stories over the years. The Yankees added a couple of players whose fathers enjoyed accomplished careers in MLB during this year's draft. Infielder Kaeden Kent, the son of former NL MVP Jeff Kent, was taken in the third round (103rd overall) out of Texas A&M. The Yanks later tabbed infielder Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek, whose father, Mark, spent 15 seasons in the majors, in the 20th round out of USC. 'Being raised in a major league house, we do know that's an advantage and they have some knowledge of what they need to do,' Damon Oppenheimer, the Yankees' vice president of domestic amateur scouting, said Tuesday on a conference call. 'It does help a lot.' George Lombard Jr., the Yankees' first-rounder in 2023 and now their top-ranked prospect by also is the son of a former major leaguer. Oppenheimer said he only spoke with Jeff Kent once before the draft, and it was a chance encounter while scouting Kaeden at a Cape Cod League game. But former Giants GM Brian Sabean, who serves as an executive advisor to GM Brian Cashman, certainly is familiar with the elder Kent's legendary competitiveness. The Yankees tabbed infielder Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek, whose father, Mark, spent 15 seasons in the majors, in the 20th round out of USC. Troy Wayrynen-Imagn Images 'Jeff wasn't one who made it like it was about him, or the guy who needed to be talked to or seen. I think he let his kid do the talking on the field,' Oppenheimer said. 'Obviously, with Brian Sabean working for us, we had a lot of knowledge of the intensity of Jeff Kent. 'Once we met with the kid more than once, we kind of realized that this kid is his own kid. … But you learn from being around a competitor like his dad was.' The Yankees' top selection also profiles as a middle infielder; high school shortstop Dax Kilby was chosen with the No. 38 pick out of Newnan High School in Georgia. Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek Troy Wayrynen-Imagn Images 'We were really excited about that,' Oppenheimer said. 'We had one team call after we took him that night that was picking in the 20s that said he was gonna be their guy, but was one short. … So we were holding our breath that it was gonna be Dax on our board.' All but Kilby among their 19 selections were college players, and 10 of those were pitchers. Locally, the Yanks also drafted Bronx product Richie Bonomolo Jr., an outfielder from Alabama (and Cardinal Hayes HS) in the seventh round.

Cal Raleigh delivered 4 hilarious words about kid who robbed HR Derby ball
It ultimately didn't matter on Monday at the 2025 MLB Home Run Derby: one of the kids tasked with shagging fly balls at the event in Atlanta leaped up to rob Junior Caminero of one of his dingers at the wall. The homer run was counted, so no harm, no foul. And Cal Raleigh took down the Tampa Bay Rays rookie sensation with 18 dingers in the final round to Caminero's 15. So either way, it ultimately didn't matter that the kid jumped up to grab the ball. That being said, that was all anyone could talk about after the contest. So what did Raleigh say after all that? He had to joke about it, and the punchline was perfect: "I paid him off." Well played, Big Dumper. What did Junior Caminero say about the kid who robbed his home run? This is the best. Via 'Things happen,' Caminero said through an interpreter. 'He was enjoying himself out there too. He did something he thought was fun and it was fine.' No big deal! It's fun! That's the spirit!

LSU baseball's Daniel Dickinson picked in 6th round. Where is the star's next stop?
LSU baseball infielder Daniel Dickinson was selected at No. 185 overall by the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday in the third round of the 2025 MLB Draft. Dickinson is the first Tiger off the board on day two of the draft. He follows former teammates Kade Anderson, Chase Shores, Ethan Frey and Anthony Eyanson, all of whom heard their names called on Sunday. lists Dickinson as the draft's No. 80 prospect. He ascended on scouts' lists by establishing himself as LSU's everyday second baseman in his first year of Power Four baseball. Following two seasons at Utah Valley, Dickinson batted .315 with 75 hits and 49 RBI. Dickinson likely slots into professional ball as a second baseman. He made just four errors all season. Scouts liked his control of the strike zone but noted the transition to wood bats at the professional level as a cause for concern. The scouting report also noted that Dickinson struggled at shortstop during fall practice with LSU. Dickinson was a key cog in the LSU lineup as the Tigers won their second College World Series in three years. He was consistent vs SEC pitching even as other bats in the Tigers lineup struggled. LSU will miss Dickinson's veteran presence in the middle of the infield, but LSU is in good hands with the return of shortstop Steven Milam.
