Delville Primary student becomes double martial arts champion

Nathan Graaff (13) from Delville Primary School is over the moon after claiming gold in his debut Mixed Martial Arts South Africa (MMASA) National Championships. After a triumphant weekend in Durban, Graaff has cemented his status as a double champion. In addition to his recent gold medal win at the MMASA Nationals, he also holds the Junior U55kg Titan Boxing title. Notably, he competed in the U55kg category at the MMASA championships. As a junior, he is subject to rules that prohibit face shots, which has led him to enjoy boxing slightly more. With five years of martial arts experience under his belt, Graaff has already racked up nine boxing fights, including the title-winning match. Reflecting on his progress, Graaff noted that while last year's competition was tougher, he is thrilled to have won again this year at the national championships. 'Having ranked 8th globally in the All-Africa MMA rankings last year and secured first and second place finishes at the nationals, I am back in training, putting in four days a week to further hone my skills with hopes of going to the 2025 IMMAF Youth Championships,' said Graaff. Jake Paul boxing tonight: TV channel, live stream, UK start time and fight card

Jake Paul returns to the ring tonight against son-of-a-legend Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in what could be the YouTuber's toughest fight yet Jake Paul takes on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr tonight - and victory could land him a world title shot. Paul has built up his record mainly by taking on retired MMA fighters and YouTube stars but in Chavez Jr he faces a former world champion. And victory will likely see Paul ranked by at least one governing body, allowing them to hand him a shot at their cruiserweight champion. ‌ But Chavez Jr will be looking to avoid what he would see as an embarrassing defeat by the social media star. He has fought just once in the last four years - labouring to a points win over former UFC star Uriah Hall. Here is everything you need to know about tonight's fight, including the start time and how to watch... ‌ How to watch and stream Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in the UK After his fight with Mike Tyson was shown on Netflix, Jake Paul returns to DAZN tonight for his clash with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The fight will NOT be included as part of your DAZN subscription but will instead be shown on pay-per-view, meaning fans will have to stump up £24.99 to watch. You can sign up for DAZN and purchase the fight by clicking the link below... Watch Jake Paul vs Chavez live on DAZN £24.99 DAZN Watch it here Product Description What time will Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr start in the UK? Jake Paul and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr will likely walk to the ring just after 4am in the UK, with the fight starting closer to 4.30am. With the fight being staged in California, this will be 8.30pm local time so don't be surprised if the fight actually gets underway closer to 5am UK time. As always, the main event time will be dictated to some extent by how long the undercard fights take to complete. Full fight card, undercard and UK start times Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr - 4.30am Jake Paul, who boldly and perhaps absurdly claims to be the face of boxing, will need to stylishly defeat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr to validate his audacious claim. It's been over two years since Paul faced a 'genuine' boxer, Tommy Fury, and he now faces a significant step up from 58 year old Mike Tyson, whom he outscored last November. However, Chavez Jr has been largely inactive, having fought only once in the past four years, scraping a victory over ex-UFC star Uriah Hall. Gilberto Ramirez vs Yuniel Dorticos - 3.30am ‌ If both men triumph in their respective bouts tonight, Gilberto Ramirez could be the one to give Jake Paul his dream world title shot. Before Paul steps into the ring against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, Ramirez will defend his cruiserweight world title against Yuniel Dorticos, a former champion himself. Having won three consecutive fights after his sole career loss to Dmitry Bivol, Ramirez is the favourite for tonight's match. Floyd Schofield vs Tevin Farmer - 2.30am Floyd Schofield was scheduled to fight Shakur Stevenson earlier this year but withdrew during fight week due to illness. Instead, he'll face veteran Tevin Farmer tonight, aiming to put on a spectacular performance to secure another high-profile bout. Schofield risks his undefeated record against Farmer, who has lost his last three fights and is eager to make a stylish comeback. ‌ Avious Griffin vs Julian Rodriguez - 1.45am With just one defeat in 40 fights between them, there's a lot at stake tonight. Avious Griffin remains undefeated in his career, having won all 17 of his bouts and knocked out all but one of his opponents. Julian Rodriguez, who has only fought three times since his loss to Jose Pedraza in 2021, needs a win tonight to reignite his career. Raul Curiel vs Victor Ezequiel Rodriguez - 1am ‌ Two unbeaten fighters start the pay-per-view segment of the fight card, with both men winning all but one of their fights - the other being a draw. Raul Curiel was held to a draw in his last bout just before Christmas, while Victor Ezequiel Rodriguez has claimed four victories since his sole setback in 2023. Holly Holm vs Yolanda Guadalupe Vega Ochoa Victor Morales vs Rene Alvarado Joel Iriarte vs Kevin Johnson Joshua Edwards vs Dominicc Hardy John Ramirez vs Joahnys Argilagos Alexander Gueche vs Vincent Avina Quotes corner Jake Paul:"He's a great fighter. I like big names, legendary names, and he's on my path to a world championship. This is a tough test, a very tough test, but I'm here to challenge myself and do big things in this sport and then make a title run after I beat him. He's coming in prepared. They're saying this is the hardest he's ever trained, and he's right…I'm not a good boxer. I'm a great boxer." Julio Cesar Chavez Jr:"I don't think he's good. I think he tries, he trains hard, but he's not a good fighter. He's definitely not a good boxer. If he were a good boxer, then everyone else on this stage would be a legend. I don't think he's a good boxer, and everybody knows that. My preparation, I always prepare to take a win. I'm here to win and that's why I'm so confident that I will win."

Medical specialist training gets legal clarity on July 1

PETALING JAYA: There will be greater structure, transparency and legal clarity of both streams of specialist training – the Parallel Pathway and local Master's programmes – once the amendments to the Medical Act come into effect next month, says the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA). Its president Datuk Dr Kalwinder Singh Khaira expressed his appreciation for the Health Ministry's commitment in strengthening the specialist medical training framework. 'We commend the ministry's clear and timely action in fulfilling its promise to implement the amended Medical Act without undue delay,' he said in a statement yesterday. The association also thanked the ministry's Medical Development Division in making the initiative possible. 'The work that has gone into realising these regulatory changes is testament to their professionalism and dedication. 'It also reflects the urgent need to expand access to high-quality specialist training in order to meet the growing demands of our healthcare system, while maintaining patient safety and the highest standards in medical practice,' Dr Kalwinder added. MMA, he said, looks forward to continued engagement with the ministry and all relevant stakeholders to ensure the implementation of these amendments will be smooth, fair and in the best interest of the people. Dr RA Lingeshwaran lauded the Health Ministry's move, saying that many participants of the parallel pathway programme were appreciative of the effort. 'I believe they are all very positive that the amendments finally addressed their concerns,' said the senator, who is a former Sungai Bakap hospital director. Independent health advocate Dr Sean Thum said most feedback from trainees and junior doctors was not solely about the amendments to the Medical Act, but about the structural bottleneck that persists before doctors can even enter specialist training programmes. 'Previously, any eligible doctor could enrol in the parallel pathway programme such as those offered by Royal Colleges abroad. 'The new framework rightly aims to standardise training quality, ensure adequate case exposure and improve supervisor-trainee ratios. 'From a public health perspective, this is a positive move towards safeguarding patient care standards,' he said. The amendments to the Medical Act, which aim to resolve the issue of parallel pathway programmes and streamline the recognition of qualifications and specialised training, will come into effect on July 1. In announcing this, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said he had signed the order to enforce the amendments to the Act, which will be resubmitted to the Attorney General's Chambers for gazettement.

UFC 317 full fight: Alexandre Pantoja submits Kai Asakura in his third title defense

Since Demetrious Johnson's departure from the UFC, the flyweight division hasn't seen a force as dominant as Alexandre Pantoja. Pantoja, a long time veteran of the sport, won the UFC flyweight belt in 2023, and has since defended it three times. Though this run, the Brazilian established himself as the second most successful UFC flyweight champion, behind Johnson, and one of the most dominant champions today in the promotion. Pantoja capped this run this past December with a submission win over former Rizin FF champion Kai Asakura. Advertisement You can rewatch Pantoja's latest title defense in the video (29-5 MMA, 13-3 UFC) returns to the cage this Saturday in the co-main event of UFC 317, which takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (ESPN+ pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+). He faces long-time contender Kai Kara-France (25-11 MMA, 8-4 UFC) in his fourth UFC title defense. Henry Cejudo 'really surprised' UFC decided to match up Payton Talbott with Felipe Lima

Henry Cejudo sees Felipe Lima as a stern test for Payton Talbott's bounce-back fight. Talbott (9-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) will look to rebound from his first-career loss when he takes on the streaking Lima (14-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) in Saturday's UFC 317 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) main card opener at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Talbott said during Wednesday's media day that he didn't think the UFC originally wanted to match him up with Lima, as he only got news of his opponent less than three weeks ago. Cejudo admits he didn't expect Lima for Talbott next. "People are very high on Lima," Cejudo said on his "Pound 4 Pound" podcast with Kamaru Usman. "He's only lost his debut. He's been on a 14-fight win streak since losing. I'm really surprised the UFC is actually putting this matchup together. Payton Talbott at one point was the hottest prospect at 135 pounds because he's just different – he's got the hair, he's got the whole circle (tattoo), he's finishing people. But then his last fight, it just took a turn. It took a turn for the worse, and he ended up getting pretty much dominated by (Raoni) Barcelos. I think a lot of people are seeing that a little bit different." Talbott is a slight underdog against Lima, which Cejudo finds surprising – especially with how Talbott was running through people before losing to Raoni Barcelos. "It was a lot of what happened to 'Robocop' (Gregory Rodrigues) somewhat happened to Talbott, but I just feel like people are really sleeping on Payton," Cejudo continued. "The only reason why I say that is because he is the underdog with Felipe. That's something to be said. How do you go from being the biggest prospect, and now they're giving you a matchup where you're not the favorite?"
