Chandrapur: In a significant crackdown on habitual offenders, the Chandrapur district administration has ordered the detention of notorious criminal Sangam Sambhaji Sagore under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act for a period of one year. The action was taken following a proposal submitted by Chandrapur police, citing his repeated involvement in criminal activities and the atmosphere of fear he created in the district. Sagore (30), a resident of Mitra Nagar near Ambedkar College, Chandrapur, has been booked in as many as 21 criminal cases across police stations in Ballarpur, Ramnagar, Padoli, and Bhadravati. His record includes armed robberies, grievous assaults, unlawful possession and use of firearms, arson, obscene verbal abuse, murder, and attempted murder. Despite multiple preventive measures taken against him in the past, Sagore continued to engage in violent and disruptive acts, posing a threat to public safety and law and order. His criminal behaviour has led to widespread panic and insecurity among the local populace. Four habitual offenders from Kondhwa, Mundhwa, and Hadapsar have been externed from Pune city limits for two years, following an order issued by the city police commissioner on June 1, 2025. In the past five months, 71 habitual criminals from Zone V have faced legal action under various stringent laws. 37 offenders have been imprisoned in five Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) cases, while 13 criminals have been sentenced under the Dangerous Persons and Video Pirates Act, 1981 (MPDA Act), and the Externment Act. Among those recently externed is Narayan Swami (38), a resident of Kondhwa, with seven criminal cases registered against him. Charges include unlawful assembly, obstructing government work, causing injury, assault, abuse, and selling liquor without a license. Nehal Viraj Kumbhar (28), from Kondhwa, has four cases registered for the illegal sale of country-made liquor, while Shubham Kawade (30), a resident of Fursungi, faces four serious charges, including causing grievous injury, attempted murder, issuing threats, and creating panic through illegal possession of firearms. Ganesh Meghnath Bhat, alias Tamaychi (32), of Jadhav Vasti, Ghorpadi, has four cases against him for the illegal sale of country-made liquor and issuing threats using abusive language. Joint commissioner of police Ranjan Kumar Sharma said, 'These individuals are known habitual offenders. To prevent further criminal activities and maintain law and order, we are aggressively pursuing legal action under MCOCA, the MPDA Act, and the externment provisions against more such criminals. Further action will be taken without hesitation.'

Nagpur: In a crackdown on repeat offenders , the Nagpur Police arrested and detained Chetan Burde (22), a notorious criminal, under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act. Burde, a resident of street no. 14, Nandanvan slum, was involved in 20 serious crimes, including murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, assault, and illegal liquor trade. Despite multiple preventive actions, Burde continued his criminal activities, creating fear among local residents. Authorities confirmed his repeated offences were a threat to public order. Acting on directives from the commissioner of police, senior officers from Sakkardara division and south regional division proposed Burde's detention under MPDA Act . Following due process, the city police chief approved the proposal, and Burde was lodged in Nagpur Central Jail on April 22 under Section 3 of the MPDA Act.

Nagpur: City police have detained two notorious criminals — Akash Meshram (31) and Chetan Burde (22) — under Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act for their continued involvement in serious crimes . City commissioner of police on Monday issued orders to detain Meshram, a serial offender involved in several violent crimes, including robbery, assault, rioting, and use of deadly weapons. Meshram, a resident of Swagat Nagar, has multiple cases registered against him at Kalamna, Nandanvan, Pardi (Nagpur city), and Kuhi (Nagpur rural) police stations. Despite preventive actions in 2018 and 2023, he continued criminal activities. He has been now shifted to Nagpur Central Jail. In yet another action, police detained Chetan Burde, a 22-year-old resident of Nandanvan, who was involved in attempted murder, theft, housebreaking, assault on public servants, and illegal possession of weapons and liquor. Cases are registered against him at Nandanvan, Hudkeshwar, and Wathoda police stations. Burde also has cases registered against him in other cities. Despite preventive actions in 2022 and 2025, his criminal behaviour persisted. Nagpur police have detained Burde in the city. He is being sent to Yerwada Jail in Pune. Both individuals were described as threat to public safety due to their repeated and escalating criminal behaviour. Their detention under MPDA Act is aimed at curbing their activities and maintaining law and order in the city.
