Army XI win Sindoor Cup
Kanpur: Army XI emerged victorious in the Sindoor cup, defeating MP XI by 9 wickets in a match played under floodlights at Green Park stadium on Sunday. Due to rains, the match commenced late and it was decided to conduct the game with 12 overs per innings. In response, Army XI achieved the required 96 runs for the loss of one wicket in 10.1 overs. Brig. Shabrul Hasan and police commissioner Akhil kumar gave Army XI a flying start, amassing 78 runs for the opening wicket in just 7.2 overs. Subsequently, Akhil Kumar and Gaurang Rathi saw the team through to victory. Akhil kumar remained unbeaten on 54, which included one six and eight boundaries, while Rathi finished not out on 11 runs. Earlier, captain Manoj Tiwari and Abhijeet Sanga opened MP XI's innings, adding 40 runs for the first wicket. Manoj Tiwari scored 30 runs with two boundaries and three sixes, while Sanga contributed 17 runs. For Army XI, Additional commissioner of police Manish Sonkar claimed four wickets. The match was inaugurated by defence state minister, Sanjay Seth. The Army band entertained the spectators present in the stadium, even as rain showers continued, by presenting patriotic songs. Afterwards, members of both teams played football before the cricket match commenced. Defence state minister Sanjay Seth and Manoj Tiwari met the family of Shubham, who was shot dead by terrorists in Pahalgam recently. UPAA selects new patron: The Kanpur Uttar Pradesh Athletic Association (UPAA) has nominated former MP, Dhananjay Singh as patron of the organisation in its general house meeting held in Lucknow on Sunday. Addressing the house, Dhananjay Singh said that all 40 secretaries must work together for the welfare of the association.

MP XI score 95 runs against Army XI in Sindoor cup
Kanpur: MP Xi scored 8 for 95 in 12 overs against Army XI in the Sindoor Cup cricket match played at the Green Park stadium here on Sunday. The tie was initially 20 overs but due to rains it was delayed and instead of 6.30 pm it started at 8.45 pm. The umpires reduced the overs and it was decided to conduct the match of 12 overs each innings. Deciding to bat first, MP XI has scored 63 runs with the help of captain Manoj Tiwari's 30 runs. tnn

District Badminton C'ship from July 5 to 7
Kanpur: Second Cosco Kanpur district badminton Championship will be played at Ragendra Swaroop Sports Academy from July 5 to 7. Secretary Kanpur District Badminton Association DP Singh said that the championship is for U-17 and 19 years age group boys & girls. Singles, doubles and mixed double events would be held. On the basis of the performance in this meet, district team will be selected which would represent district in forthcoming state badminton championship. Interested players may register themselves on by July 3. Thereafter no entry would be accepted, he added. Summer camp conclusion: The closing function of summer camps held at Green Park by sports directorate and sports promotion committee will be held on Friday. The participants will get certificate from MP Ramesh Awasthi, chief guest of the event. Cricket match to honour army heroes
Kanpur: After the success of operation Sindoor, a cricket match dedicated to the valour and bravery of the army will be held between MP XI and Army XI at Green Park on June 29. Ramesh Awasthi, local MP, addressing the media about the details of the match, stated that the event will be of 20 overs each innings and MPs would be led by Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari. While Army XI will be led by Brig. Sarwan Hasan. Entry for spectators would be through passes and around 20,000 passes would be distributed among the cricket fans. C Balcony would be closed for spectators due to security reasons. Representatives of all political parties had been invited to represent MP XI. Awasthi informed that before the match, cultural programmes would be presented . Two bands of Army would also present their tunes before the guests.
