Unlike in a throuple, the wives are only in a relationship with their husband and not with each other and are known as "sister wives".
The large family all live together, including their 11 children, who all of the wives raise together.
Despite having to share a husband, the Barrett wives do not seem jealous of each other, and often make videos on social media bragging about their unconventional relationship.
However, while they not may appear insecure about themselves, the wives allegedly compete for the hubby's attention, a recent clip on their Instagram page showed.

MR TINDER MEETS 'THE ONE' Tinder's most right swiped man FINALLY finds love after 9 years
The video, which has been viewed more than a whopping 27million times, sees the wives - Jess, Gabby, Diana, Cam and Starr - doing their own thing, as the hubby arrives home.
Hearing the door open, the ''sister wives'' get excited - and rush to be the first one to give him a kiss.
One of them, for instance, quits cleaning the floor - whilst another immediately stops doing the dishes.
The third wife proceeds to stop sprucing up the couch, as the fourth ditches cleaning up the mess after a baby and another immediately looks in the direction of the hubby.
One by one, they all start getting ready for the race - whether that means getting their trainers in sports mode or fixing their hair.
''When hubby gets home and we all are trying to be the first to kiss him,'' read the text on the footage.
I'm raising my child with 5 parents & none are the biological father - yes it's unconventional but full of love
''Nothing wrong with a little healthy competition,'' the husband chuckled in the caption.
But while this arrangement might work for the mega family, social media users were not so sure, as thousands flooded to comments to share their thoughts.
One person prayed: ''May this type of relationship never find me.''
What is polyamory?
Polyamory is the practice of having romantic relationships with more than one person at the same time, with the knowledge and consent of all parties.
It can refer to relationships where one person has multiple partners or spouses, or where all parties are in a relationship with each other, for example in a throuple.
According to You Gov, 6.8% of people in the UK have been in a polyamorous relationship.
''I'd rather scoop my eyes out with a hot spoon,'' another declared.
''This is actually really depressing,'' is how someone else felt about the relationship.
''Being poly is one thing, but being the only man in a 5 woman relationship is definitely fishy,'' a fourth thought.
The wives previously said that polyamory is a great choice for men who are always cheating, or who jump from relationship to relationship.
They added that they don't want another man in their lives, and are happy sharing just one.
