Political science honours most popular course in PU colleges
Patna: If the number of students admitted to honours subjects in the four-year degree courses in Patna University (PU) colleges so far in the current academic session is any indication, political science is certainly the winner. Most of the sanctioned seats in this honours course in different colleges have been filled up and very few seats are up for grabs in the third round of admission scheduled from June 30. According to the statistics provided by PU students' welfare dean, Anil Kumar, as many as 75 students have been admitted against 85 seats in political science honours at Patna College, whereas 45 girls have been admitted against 60 seats at Magadh Mahila College. Similarly, in other PU colleges, too, there was maximum craze among admission seekers for honours course in political science. Even at Patna Women's College, an autonomous institution under PU, the subject drew maximum rush of admission seekers. Though admission in undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the college have almost been completed, seats in the political science honours course were first to be captured by the girls, said college principal Sister M Rashmi. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo You Can Also Check: Patna AQI | Weather in Patna | Bank Holidays in Patna | Public Holidays in Patna Academicians, however, find it difficult to ascertain the reason behind this increasing craze for political science among admission aspirants as until recently history used to be the most attractive subject for undergraduate students. Moreover, recent political happenings in the world and the forthcoming assembly elections in Bihar also seem to have charged the youths politically, quipped a teacher of PU. Sources said that subjects like geography, economics, history and sociology in the faculty of social science are other popular subjects. A good number of students have also sought admission to these courses in PU colleges. In the science faculty, physics, mathematics and zoology are attracting maximum number of students, they said. However, subjects like Arabic, Bengali, Maithili, and Persian have few takers. The number of students admitted in most of these subjects is much less than the number of sanctioned seats. Colleges may think of stopping the teaching of these subjects if the present trend continues and they fail to attract students, said Patna College's former principal Pramod Kumar Poddar.
