Tourism dept to upgrade facilities at Hampi under Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme
1 2 Hampi (Vijayanagara): State tourism department, backed by the funding of the Union tourism ministry, plans to upgrade essential facilities at Hampi, a World Heritage Site, through the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme. This upgraded version of the Union govt's tourism initiative focuses on creating sustainable tourism destinations, with Hampi selected as one of the sites. The scheme intends to improve visitors' experiences through various interventions, including infrastructure upgrades and service enhancements. Tourism department deputy director Prabhulinga S Talakeri confirmed that Vijayanagara district received approval for the detailed project report-1 submitted for the development of Hampi in the initial phase, with tenders being finalised. The necessary no-objection certificates (NOC) were secured from relevant departments, and site assessments are complete. The anticipated cost for Hampi's all-encompassing development as part of Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme is Rs 24 crore. In light of this, the Hindu religious endowments department developed a plan to establish a system that will offer free meals to both devotees and tourists, with an estimated cost of Rs 8 crore. Under the DC's supervision, Sri Virupaksheshwara Temple CEO Hanumanthappa prepared a DPR and identified space for the Prasad Mantap's construction opposite Hampi gram panchayat parking area. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) approved the building's construction, with work commencing shortly. It is believed that these initiatives will increase Hampi's status as a desirable tourist spot.

The mass yoga events witnessed active participation from elected officials, students, organisation members, and locals across all districts. Heavy rainfall causes extensive crop and property damage in Vijayanagara
1 2 Hosapete (Vijayanagara): Incessant, heavy rainfall over the past two days in the district resulted in extensive crop damage and affected 13 residential properties. A significant number of roads leading to various tourist attractions in the Unesco World Heritage site of Hampi are inundated with water. Deputy commissioner MS Diwakar said that the district received 22.6 mm of rainfall, exceeding normal levels by 55% in the initial 12 days of June, leading to an orange alert declaration. Significant precipitation was recorded across all 18 hoblis, with particularly high levels in Hagaribommanahalli, Hampasagar, Hosapete, and Kudligi hoblis. The rainfall impacted 20 hectares of maize and ragi crops in Harapanahalli, while Kotturu experienced damage to 15 hectares of maize cultivation. Hampi and Kamalapur areas saw flooding in banana, sugarcane, and paddy fields. In Hosapete city, daily activities were disrupted as water accumulated in low-lying areas, submerging roads and creating waterlogged conditions on various routes. Water-related issues affected residences in Kaddirampur, Venkatapur Camp, and Bukkasagar villages within Hosapete taluk. "Officials from agriculture department and the revenue department are conducting a joint survey of the rain damage. A total of 13 houses sustained partial damage, and compensation was allocated to all those affected as per regulations. Compensation was also provided to one family who lost a member to lightning strike and another family that suffered injuries. The details of farmers in the 121.9 hectare area where crops were damaged have been submitted to the govt, and compensation will be processed shortly," DC Diwakar said.
