Need Funds For Your Startup? These 4 Government Schemes Can Help

Last Updated: For young startup owners, the Indian government provides valuable schemes that provide strong financial assistance through loans that fall under its tax benefit act. Amid a growing number of new businesses and startups in the country, the Indian government has announced valuable schemes that can help young business owners turn their dreams into reality. The government offers multiple beneficial schemes that provide loans to startups and ease their journey of turning an idea into a profitable venture. Here are some of the different loan strategies provided by the government for startups. Launched in 2015, the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana provides loans to non-corporate and non-farm small/micro enterprises of up to Rs 10 lakhs. The loans under the PMMY scheme are classified as 'MUDRA' – Micro Units Development & Refinance Agency. Startup owners can apply for this scheme at commercial banks, regional rural banks, small finance banks, microfinance institutions, as well as non-banking financial companies (NBFCs). Notably, the PM Narendra Modi-led government disbursed loans worth Rs 5,32,358 crore under this scheme in the 2023-24 financial year. Stand Up India Scheme The Stand Up India Scheme was introduced by the Modi government in 2016. It specifically targets SC/ST individuals or women in sectors such as manufacturing, services and trading. The government provides loans worth Rs 10 lakhs to a crore under this scheme. However, these loans are only applicable for green projects. One can avail the Stand Up India Scheme through a bank branch directly, or from the SIDBI Stand-Up India Portal or the Lead District Manager. The repayment period of the loan has been set at seven years, with an 18-month moratorium. Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for Startups This scheme was launched by the Indian government under the 2016 Startup India Action Plan. The Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for Startups (CGFSS) is administered by the National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company Limited. It covers startups recognised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). Loans are provided to startups that have a stable revenue stream, with owners maintaining audited monthly statements for 12 months. They must also not be classified as a defaulter by any lending institution that follows the RBI guidelines. Prime Minister's Employment Generation Program Another attractive scheme for young startups, the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Program, provides young business owners with financial assistance to approach self-employment opportunities. A credit-linked subsidy scheme administered by the Ministry of MSMEs, PMEGP, helps you establish new micro-enterprises, which also generate employment in rural and urban areas among low-income households. If you are an eligible entrepreneur, you can receive loans of up to Rs 25 lakhs for manufacturing sector and Rs 10 lakhs for service sector projects under this scheme. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. BJP MLA says he is ready for public debate with CM on Centre's grants to Mysuru

BJP MLA for Krishnaraja T.S. Srivatsa on Monday said he is ready for a public debate with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over the Centre's grants to Mysuru district. He accused the Chief Minister of not speaking the truth during the Sadhana Samavesha that was held in Mysuru recently, where Mr. Siddaramaiah had claimed that the Centre had not given anything to the district. Responding to the Chief Minister's challenge for a debate on the Centre's aid to the district, Mr. Srivatsa told reporters in Mysuru that he accepts the challenge. 'The Chief Minister can make it public how much is the Centre's contribution and how much funds the State government has granted to the district,' he said. He alleged that the Sadhana Samavesha was organised with the sole agenda of targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He argued that the Centre's contribution to Mysuru's development has been significant, citing ₹2,627 crore for highway development, funds for railway underbridge works, and ₹1,393 crore under Jal Jeevan Mission. He alleged that these works were not mentioned at the event. Mr. Srivatsa said Mysuru received over ₹3,000 crore under the MUDRA scheme benefiting over 5.38 lakh people, with total grants under the scheme so far reaching ₹10,000 crore in the district. He also said 6,000 people were trained under the PM Vishwakarma scheme. Accusing the State government of protocol violations during the samavesha, Mr. Srivatsa questioned why the programme included All India Congress Committee in charge Randeep Surjewala's name but not that of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda. 'What is the connection between Mr. Surjewala and the samavesha?' he asked. He alleged that although Congress leaders described the event as a government programme, it turned out to be a Congress event and a show of strength for the Chief Minister. Former MLA L. Nagendra, party spokesperson M.A. Mohan, and others were present.

Special cells to reopen cases of militancy victims in J&K

The Jammu & Kashmir Police on Wednesday (July 2, 2025) started circulating special phone numbers to reopen cases of victims of militancy in the Union Territory and identify the perpetrators currently working in government departments. According to the J&K Police, dedicated grievance-cum-helpline cells have been set up in Anantnag, Awantipora, Budgam, Baramulla and Sopore in the Kashmir division. Similar helplines are being set up in the Jammu region with Doda district already establishing one such cell. 'This initiative is intended to facilitate the registration and resolution of grievances of terrorism-affected families across the district. Victims or their kin can approach the helpline numbers to register grievances or seek assistance,' the police said. Police said affected individuals, or their families, can contact the helpline number by voice call, SMS and WhatsApp on all working days between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. The fresh measure came a day after J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha discussed the cases where the victims were 'brutally killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists'. He directed the Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police to reopen cases, 'which were deliberately buried and file an FIR and ensure jobs are provided to Next of Kins (NoKs) on priority'. Mr. Sinha directed them to take immediate measures to free properties of the families of terror victims and land grabbed by terrorists or their sympathisers. 'Identify those elements from the terror ecosystem who were involved in killing of common Kashmiris and currently working in government departments. Financial assistance under MUDRA and handholding must be extended to the terror victim family members who want to start their self-employment venture,' the Lieutenant Governor told officials. Mr. Sinha, using special powers under Article 311, has already terminated services of around 70 government employees in J&K on the basis of reports filed by the security agencies.
