Motocross 2025 250 results, highlights, finish at RedBud: Jo Shimoda earns fourth career win

Jo Shimoda won his fourth 250 class Pro Motocross race after sweeping both motos of the RedBud Nationals in Buchanan, Michigan. He became the third 250 winner along with Chance Hymas, who won in Lakewood, Colorado, and Haiden Deegan with four victories. Shimoda's first two Motocross victories came in 2022 at Unadilla and RedBud. In both of those Nationals, he won the first race and swept the podium with third-place finishes in the second. Shimoda improved his performance with his third win, which came in the 2023 season finale at Ironman. He swept the motos that weekend. Shimoda was off to a strong start this season with second-place finishes in his first four motos as well as in the overall results, but his next two 2025 rounds ended outside the top five. Last week, he struggled in Moto 1 at Southwick to finish 10th. He rebounded in the second moto and finished second, giving him fifth overall. As moral support, the president of Honda HRC made a rare appearance at a US Motocross race, and that was the added incentive Shimoda needed. He won Moto 1 by seven seconds and Moto 2 by nearly 18 seconds. Click here for a recap of RedBud Overall positions for the remainder of the field were hard fought, with nearly everyone experiencing problems in at least one of their motos — and the podium was filled with heartwarming stories. In just his third round back after suffering an Achilles tendon injury, Jalek Swoll barely missed the top five in Moto 1 with a sixth-place result. He wanted to make the most of his second race and grabbed the holeshot in Moto 2. Swoll led the first four laps before dropping to third. He regained second on Lap 12 only to lose it to Haiden Deegan with two remaining. His third-place finish in that race was enough to secure second overall. Michael Mosiman barely missed out on a podium last week in Southwick with a fourth-place result overall. That was a remarkable result, considering he suffered a severe neck injury prior to the 2024 Pro Motocross season. Mosiman showed consistency and speed at RedBud. He scored fourth-place results in both motos, tied Swoll in the number of points earned, and finished third due to the tiebreaker. Relive Moto 1 Mikkel Haarup joined his Triumph Factory teammate Swoll in the top five after finishing eighth in Moto 1 and fifth in Moto 2. Haarup had not initially planned to ride in the United States, but the contract to race in MXGP did not have him lining up overseas. Deegan got off to a poor start in Moto 1, but that rarely makes a difference for 'Danger Boy.' He completed Lap 1 outside the top 10, worked his way up to seventh on Lap 3, and then crashed. He fell to ninth, worked his way back to fifth on Lap 10, and then crashed again. The second incident was difficult to overcome, and he finished 14th with the banged-up bike. Deegan finished second in Moto 2 and secured the final top-five position overall. Ryder DiFrancesco showed speed in qualification by sweeping both sessions. A poor start in Moto 1 dropped him outside a points-paying finish in 25th, but he climbed to 12th at the checkers. DiFrancesco was better in Moto 2 and finished sixth after completing Lap 1 in 11th. He was scored sixth overall. Motocross 2025 450 results, highlights, finish at Southwick: Jett Lawrence sweeps for third time

Jett Lawrence executed his third weekend sweep of 2025 at The Wick 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts, with what was his most dominant performance of the season. He finished 14 seconds ahead of the field in Moto 1 and bested them by 20 seconds in Moto 2. Jett's previous two sweeps came at Fox Raceway in the season opener and at Thunder Valley MX Park. In the other two rounds this season, he won one moto each time to score eight race wins in 10 starts. Jett now holds a 38-point advantage in the Pro Motocross Championship standings. Hunter Lawrence was best in class, finishing second in each of the motos, but was never truly in contention for the victory. Then again, he wasn't seriously challenged in either race as he rode to a comfortable spot on the podium. Click here for a recap of Southwick Eli Tomac finished third in both motos to secure third overall, but he had to overcome a poor start in the first race, completing Lap 1 in sixth position and failing to secure the podium spot until Lap 10 of 16. When asked about his performance, he admitted the Lawrence brothers were simply faster than him this week. Justin Cooper kept his streak of overall top-fives alive by finishing sixth in Moto 1 and fifth in Moto 2. He had an even bigger hill to climb in the second race than Tomac did in the first, completing Lap 1 in 12th. He climbed into the top five with four laps remaining. Without that pass, he would have been relegated outside the top five as he finished only one point better than the rider in seventh. Relive Moto 1 It took five rounds, but the reigning MXGP champion, Jorge Prado, finally scored his first overall top five in Pro Motocross after finishing fifth in the first moto and sixth in the second race. Prado challenged for podiums in both races before casual crashes pushed him further down the grid. Prado's previous best Motocross performance came in the season opener in Pala, California, when he was sixth overall on the strength of seventh and sixth place results. Aaron Plessinger failed to finish among the top five overall for the first time in 2025. He scored a solid fourth-place result in Moto 1, but faded in the second race and dropped to eighth, which put him only one point out of the coveted positions. RJ Hampshire ended the weekend with an identical number of points (32) as Plessinger, but was scored sixth with the tiebreaker. Jo Shimoda named to 2025 Motocross of Nations (MXoN) Japanese team

Jo Shimoda will lead the Japanese team in the 2025 Motocross of Nations (MXoN), which will be held in the United States at Ironman Raceway in Crawfordsville, Indiana, October 3 - 5. This is the first MXoN team to be announced for 2025. Shimoda will compete in the premier MXGP class. Shimoda's previous MXoN start was in the MX2 division in 2022 when Japan finished 24th. Joining Shimoda this year will be his teammate from 2022, Yuki Okura, who will compete in the Open division. Soya Nakajima in MX2 rounds out the roster. Shimoda got off to a strong start in Pro Motocross this season, finishing second overall in the first two rounds on the strength of second-place finishes in all four motos. He has not stood on the podium since with a best moto finish of fourth at Thunder Valley MX Park in Lakewood, Colorado. His last two Nationals results were sixth overall. His strong start contributed to Shimoda sitting second in the 250 championship, with 42 points separating him from the leader, Haiden Deegan. Fox Raceway Motocross 2025 preview: Top finishes, previous winners, historic results, who to watch

The Pro Motocross series opens at Fox Raceway in Pala, California, for the fifth consecutive season with the 11th edition of an outdoor round on the track. This venue has both launched and finalized seasons, but one thing has remained the same during its recent history: the domination of the Lawrence brothers. Jett Lawrence is undefeated in Pala in the 450 division. He swept the two motos in 2023 and 2024 to launch both seasons with a notable lead. Before that, he was the overall winner of five consecutive 250 divisional rounds, scoring seven moto wins and three second-place finishes in the process. As soon as Jett moved up to the senior division, Hunter Lawrence took his place by finishing third in the first race and winning the second moto for the overall 250 win in 2023. In 2024, he was second to Jett with second and third-place results in the 450 class. The last time someone other than Jett won a 450 race in Pala, Eli Tomac swept the 2022 event. He has another overall win in 2021 with results of second and first. The reigning Motocross champion, Chase Sexton, finished third behind the Lawrences last year, was second to Jett in 2023 and Tomac in the second race of 2022, and won the opener in 2022. These are riders to watch this week, even though Jett, Tomac, and Hunter are all returning from injury. Jett and Tomac have never raced one another in Pro Motocross. It will be interesting to see if they renew their Supercross battle from one hour south of Pala when Tomac beat Jett in beast mode. No one other than Jett and Sexton has won in the past two seasons. Sexton filled the gap when Jett was forced to the sidelines, winning 11 times while Jett was recovering from a thumb injury last year and an ACL injury during this 2025 season. They are not the only riders to watch, however. Jorge Prado and Jason Anderson will also return to action in Pala, adding to the championship appeal. Between them, five riders returning from injury or illness represent 13 titles, including those won by Prado in MXGP, according to In addition to Prado's 450 championships, he has a pair in the 250 class (2018 and 2019). If he stays healthy, it is difficult to imagine that he will not play the role of spoiler. The only time a rider with a last name other than Lawrence won in the 250 division at Fox Raceway in the past five years was Haiden Deegan, who swept the motos in 2024. Deegan could be challenged if Jo Shimoda picks up the pace in the second race. He has an average finish of 5.3 in Moto 1 versus 10.4 in Moto 2.
