Maritime agency puts up RM1mil to develop Trong village
Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has allocated RM1mil to develop Kampung Temerlok in Trong, near Taiping in Perak, under its Madani Adopted Village programme. MMEA director-general Admiral (Maritime) Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah said the agency's efforts now extended beyond maritime security, with renewed focus on uplifting inland rural communities. 'Our role goes beyond safeguarding the seas. 'We are also committed to serving the people through community-based programmes and targeted outreach efforts,' he told Bernama. The initiative, funded by the Finance Ministry, supports five key projects including repairs to the Sungai Tok Lin jetty, a vital economic lifeline for local fishermen. Other improvements include roof repairs at Al-Mahmudiah religious school, upgrades at the flood relief centre in SK Temerlok, maintenance and repair works at Masjid Al-Mahmudiah as well as cleaning of the mosque grounds and the nearby Muslim cemetery. The mosque also received two air-conditioning units, installed in its meeting room. Mohd Rosli said the agency had previously donated three cows for Aidiladha, with meat distributed to 200 residents. More than 150 MMEA personnel joined villagers in a gotong-royong to clean the village, mosque and cemetery.

PAPAR: More than 1,000 villagers in Mukim Kaiduan are benefitting from 16 infrastructure projects under the Madani Adopted Village (KAM) programme which have been completed. Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the projects, launched in May last year with an allocation of RM2.5 million, have now been officially handed over to residents of Kampung Kaiduan, Kampung Bisuang and Kampung Bolotikon, each home to about 350 people, mainly from the B40 income group. 'Many villagers rely on agriculture, with some, especially women, leaving as early as 1am to sell produce at markets like Tamu Kinarut, despite poor roads and flood-prone low-level crossings (LLCs). 'One key project was the construction of a new LLC bridge in Kampung Ulu Kaiduan, ensuring safer access even during floods,' he told reporters after officiating the handover at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kaiduan, Saturday. The KAM initiative aims to bridge urban-rural development gaps by improving access to basic infrastructure such as water, electricity, roads, street lighting, internet connectivity and community facilities. This year, 43 villages have been selected under the programme with RM107 million in total funding. Each participating ministry or agency receives up to RM2.5 million, in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's vision. Among completed projects in Kaiduan are culvert upgrades, new bridges, road works in Kampung Kaiduan and Kampung Bisuang, a suspension bridge to SK Kaiduan, as well as the construction of a surau and multipurpose hall at the school. In Kampung Bolotikon, a sepak takraw court was built, alongside upgrades to the church and community hall. Hill walkways, gravel paths and solar-powered street lights were also installed across all three villages. Armizan said Kaiduan was selected based on criteria, including limited access to basic amenities, with coverage below 50 per cent. 'These projects are expected to greatly enhance quality of life, improve mobility and support religious and socio-economic activities,' he said. For 2024, the Government has allocated RM200 million to expand KAM. Armizan said his Ministry has selected a village in Kedah, with details to be announced soon. 'Completion of these projects doesn't mean our work ends. We'll continue supporting Kaiduan, including socio-economic development beyond physical upgrades,' he added. Home Ministry allocates RM1 million to 12 Kota Belud villages KOTA BELUD: The Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) has at least 12 Madani Adopted Villages which have been allocated RM1 million each to implement various projects. Its Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the allocation was given directly to local leaders and relevant agencies to implement physical and non-physical projects that have an impact on their respective villages. MMEA launches full probe into Pulau Perhentian boat tragedy
KUALA BERANG: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) will conduct a thorough investigation into the boat capsize incident in Pulau Perhentian, Besut, which resulted in the deaths of three victims, including two family members. Its director-general, Admiral Maritime Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah, said that although the incident was reported to have occurred when the boat carrying 15 passengers was hit by a storm, his department will conduct a thorough investigation, including the boat's licensing, cargo carried, and ensuring all regulations were complied with. "We will conduct an investigation, including contacting the victims involved and carrying out a detailed investigation in various aspects," he said when met by reporters after the launching ceremony of the Madani Adopted Village and Madani Adopted School programme by the People's Volunteer Corps (RELA) 2025 at the grand hall of the Hulu Terengganu District Council here yesterday. The ceremony was officiated by Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. Mohd Rosli added that his team always intensifies control and enforcement, especially since tourism activities on the beach and at sea are becoming more vibrant after the Northeast Monsoon season has ended. In the boat incident that happened at 10.30pm on Saturday, S. Arumugam, 40, and daughter A. Sarrvihka, 3, as well as female relative V. Vennpani, 10, died, whereas another two victims are still being treated in hospital, including one in critical condition, while 10 others survived. All the boat's passengers, aged three to 40, who were relatives, were said to have been on their way back from Pulau Perhentian Kecil to Pulau Perhentian Besar after dinner when a big wave suddenly hit the boat and caused it to capsize. In the same development, Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairuddin said his team, together with the MMEA and Malaysian Marine Department, always collaborate to ensure law enforcement, including among tourist boat operators. He also reminded all boat operators to ensure that all boat drivers are not involved in any crime, especially drug-related ones. "This is because, based on the investigation, the 20-something boat driver has five previous criminal records related to drugs. So, the police and other agencies will continuously enhance law enforcement from now on," he said when met by reporters at the same event.— BERNAMA

‘Omak sey oghang sini': IGP Razarudin adopts Kampung Parit Seberang, mum's hometown, shares RM1m for upgrade works
KUALA PILAH, June 15 — A total of RM1 million has been allocated to upgrade Kampung Parit Seberang, which has been selected as the Inspector-General of Police's (IGP) Kampung Angkat Madani (Madani Adopted Village). Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said that the village was selected by the Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK), based on its infrastructure status, which was assessed to be below 50 per cent complete, and in need of special attention. He said that the Kampung Parit Seberang Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) encompasses three villages – Kampung Parit Mainau, Kampung Parit Mungkal and Kampung Parit Istana – covering a total area of 3.3 square kilometres. 'I would like to share that RM1 million has been allocated, through the Ministry of Finance, to support the entire initiative to upgrade the village, not to mention, omak sey oghang sini (my mother is from here),' he said. He added that, beyond narrowing the development gap in basic infrastructure between rural and urban areas, the programme aims to deliver high-quality community services, through collaboration between ministries, departments, agencies, and public universities. He said this at the IGP's Madani Adopted Village community programme, held in Kampung Parit Seberang, which was also attended by state senior executive councillor, Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, here, today. Razarudin said the proposed upgrade projects include improvements to buildings, landscaping and fencing around the Kampung Parit Seberang surau, road repairs and resurfacing, refurbishment of the Kampung Parit Seberang community hall, and the installation of 20 solar-powered street lights throughout the village. He added that the upgrading works are being closely monitored by the Bukit Aman JPJKK and the Kuala Pilah district police headquarters (IPD), with the aim of ensuring that all improvements are implemented with good governance. 'I have high hopes that this government initiative will be put to good use, for the comfort and well-being of the local community,' he said. Meanwhile, Kampung Parit Seberang JPKK chairman Hasnan Abd Malek, 55, expressed his gratitude to the government for selecting the village as the IGP's Madani Adopted Village. 'This selection is a great advantage in our aim to achieve zero crime. Alhamdulillah, it will bring many benefits to the villagers, especially in terms of security, as there will now be regular police patrols in the village,' he said. — Bernama
