[UPDATED] Anwar to meet Cambodian, Thai leaders in Putrajaya tomorrow
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will meet the leaders of Cambodia and Thailand in Putrajaya tomorrow to discuss a ceasefire over their ongoing conflict.
He said the talks will be held at his official residence in the Seri Perdana Complex here at 3pm.
"They (representatives from the Thai and Cambodian governments) have asked me to facilitate peace negotiations, so we will host the meeting here tomorrow at 3pm.
"I'm currently discussing the parameters and conditions, but what's important is an immediate ceasefire," he said at the Madani Knowledge Gathering here tonight.
Anwar said he is expected to chair the meeting between both delegations, which will include discussions on the terms proposed by each side.
Earlier, the Thai government confirmed its attendance at a regional peace consultation aimed at discussing the escalating border conflict with Cambodia.
Government spokesperson Jirayu Huangsap said Anwar, in his capacity as the current Asean chair, had invited the Thai leadership to discuss the Thai-Cambodian conflict.
