Zahid: Infighting cost Umno dearly, let's not repeat it in GE16
RAUB: Umno must learn from the mistakes of the last two general elections if it wants to reemerge as a dominant party in the 16th general election (GE16), said party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Zahid, alluding to internal strife that weakened the party's performance previously, said Umno's poor showing in the 14th and 15th general elections was a test from God—and GE16 must be a turning point. "God has tested us twice, and we do not want a third test in GE16. "We must not repeat the same mistakes. Instead, we should learn from the past, rectify the situation, and resolve Barisan Nasional's (BN) and Umno's internal issues. "Twice is enough," he said, referring to the coalition's disappointing results in recent elections. Zahid noted that BN secured only 30 parliamentary seats in GE15. "Whenever I attend Umno delegates' meetings, I take the opportunity to assess our strengths and weaknesses, and to listen to the grassroots... to understand how we can regain dominance in GE16," he said when opening the Raub Umno division delegates' meeting at the Raub Silver Jubilee Hall today. He said internal conflict and disunity had played a significant role in the party's decline. "There were too many enemies within—duri dalam daging (thorns in the flesh)—and some even shot themselves in the foot. "We must avoid this if Umno wants to return to its winning ways. "Umno must remain united and resilient. Only then can we strategise and move forward. "Our leaders must serve with sincerity and integrity—these positions are a trust, not a reward." Zahid also urged Umno leaders to move on from the past, set aside internal disputes, and focus on the party's core mission to secure victory in GE16. BN, which governed Malaysia for nearly six decades, lost its grip on power in the last two general elections. In GE15, it recorded its worst-ever performance, winning only 30 parliamentary seats. Also present were Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, who is also Pahang Umno liaison chief, and Raub Umno division chief Datuk Abd Aziz Mat Kiram. On a separate matter, Zahid—who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister—said the expansion of the Madani Rahmah Sales initiative announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would benefit more people, especially in rural and densely populated areas. "The introduction of new locations and a wider variety of products will give consumers more choices at affordable prices. "We hope the target groups will take advantage of this opportunity to purchase essential goods.

Armizan proposes allowing RM100 Sara credit to be used at mobile Rahmah sales locations
RANAU: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has proposed allowing the RM100 Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) credit to be used at mobile Madani Rahmah Sales locations. Its minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the proposal aims to improve access for communities in rural and remote areas, who may otherwise struggle to redeem the aid due to limited fixed retail premises in their districts. At present, there are 4,152 authorised premises nationwide where the credit can be used, including only 470 in Sabah. These are mostly permanent outlets such as supermarkets approved under the Finance Ministry. 'To reach more people, especially those outside urban centres, we are propose that Sara redemptions can be made at mobile Rahmah Sales locations,' he said at the ministry's carnival and Buy Malaysian Goods Campaign in Ranau, Saturday (July 26). 'These mobile outlets include sales of local Malaysian products and essential items, and are regularly deployed across rural districts. We believe expanding redemption options beyond the fixed premises would significantly improve access, particularly in Sabah,' he added. The RM100 Sara credit — a one-off cashless aid credited to MyKad starting Aug 31 — is open to all Malaysians aged 18 and above. It is part of an additional RM2bil allocation announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on July 23, bringing the total allocation under Sara and Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) to RM15bil this year. The expansion of mobile Madani Rahmah Sales is supported by an additional RM300mil allocation under the government's Payung Rahmah initiative. The Cost of Living Ministry is targeting 20,000 mobile Rahmah sales sessions nationwide this year, with 2,276 planned for Sabah alone. Between January and July, 1,089 sessions have already been carried out in the state. As of July 2025, Sabah has received RM410mil in STR aid for 830,000 recipients, while RM500mil in Sara assistance has been disbursed to 506,000 people. The carnival and KBBM in Ranau is part of a broader outreach initiative to promote local products, reduce import dependency, and bring government services directly to grassroots communities. 'This is not just about aid distribution, but strengthening our local economy and empowering micro and small enterprises,' Armizan said.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the funds announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday were on top of the original RM300 million allocation. "Our target is to hold 20,000 Madani Rahmah Sales in all 222 parliamentary constituencies, 600 state constituencies and 40 Federal Territory zones. "Up to July 22, 12,441 events have been held. With five months of the year remaining, we aim to reach the 20,000 target," he said after a inspecting a mobile Madani Rahmah Sale at his ministry's headquarters here. Armizan said the ministry also planned to increase the number of products at each event, especially during festive seasons to maximise consumer choice. He added that mobile Madani Rahmah Sales typically featured 20 to 30 products, and the new allocation allow it to be increased to 50. "The third focus is enhancing collaboration with strategic retail partners. We cannot operate alone. "With this additional allocation, we will intensify cooperation to hold Madani Rahmah Sales at mobile and fixed premises," he said, adding that some retailers offered discounts beyond the government's rates. Armizan said currently, discounts ranged from 10 to 30 per cent, and the extra allocation would allow even more price reductions. He also encouraged the public to check the Madani Rahmah Sales schedule on the ministry's website, which will be updated with new events following the additional allocation. Armizan said the ministry would fully utilise the RM300 million by year-end before submitting a report to the Finance Ministry. "If there is strong demand, we will propose an increase (for the 2026 Budget)," he said.

Madani govt initiatives ease rakyat's burden, say state leaders
KUALA LUMPUR: State leaders have welcomed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's latest initiatives, calling them a clear sign of the Madani government's dedication to alleviating the people's financial burdens. The measures include a one-off RM100 aid under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme and a reduction in RON95 petrol prices. Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the aid, though modest, would significantly help vulnerable groups. 'For those in need, this is a meaningful gift that eases daily struggles,' he stated after chairing the state exco meeting in Seremban. He also praised the expansion of the Madani Rahmah Sales programme, now allocated RM600 million, as a strategic move to boost affordability. Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusof announced plans to leverage the additional public holiday on Sept 15 for tourism activities. 'This sector will be a new economic driver, covering land, air, and sea experiences,' he said outside the State Legislative Assembly. Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari highlighted the broader economic impact of the RM2 billion SARA allocation. 'While RM100 may seem small, the collective spending will stimulate local businesses,' he explained.
