Institutional Development Plan
(IDP) – mandated as per
NEP 2020
for preparing the university's vision, mission, and goals – has not been drafted. Following implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020,
University Grants Commission
(UGC) took nearly three years to notify 64-page IDP guidelines in February 2024, mainly because of the Covid years.
It was expected that universities draft their IDPs – a key vision document – within a year's time and publish it on their website for IDP concerns enablers, governance, finance, research, and academics, besides short, mid, and long-term goals of the university. However, queries about the IDP, which must be uploaded on the NU website, sent top officials into a frenzy, seeking more time to find out its whereabouts.

(HEIs) to develop IDPs to guide their growth and improvement. IDP envisages addressing various aspects of the institution, including infrastructure, student support systems, and academic offerings, with the goal of attracting top talent and improving teaching and learning.

However, the stalled IDP has now made student- and faculty-focused initiatives stagnant, insiders asked about the IDP, additional divisional commissioner Madhavi Khode-Chaware, who is holding the charge of the NU VC post, said she was on leave until next week.
She didn't clarify who was delegated NU's charge in her absence. On Thursday morning, acting Pro-VC Subhash Kondawar said he would find out about the IDP and inform. Later in the evening, he didn't answer TOI's Acharya, who is director of internal quality assurance cell, claimed the IDP was already ready. On the query of when it was completed, she said dean of commerce and management faculty Sanjay Kavishwar headed the draft committee, and she needs to check with him. Officials said Kavishwar didn't head the IDP draft committee but was in-charge of the university's perspective plan, which is a five-year vision document mandated by the Universities Act, 2016. Only the 104-page plan for 2019-24 is available on NU's website. The plan for 2024-29 is also ready, but not made online yet. The plan carries vital information such as placements, courses, number of students, affiliated colleges, student welfare, sports, action plans, strategies, and implementation to improve student didn't answer TOI's calls.
