All city buses in Tiruchi to be extended up to integrated bus terminus at Panjapur from July 16
All city bus services operating from the Central Bus Stand in Tiruchi will now be extended up to the newly opened Integrated Bus Terminus (IBT) at Panjapur via Mannarpuram roundabout while continuing to run through their existing city routes, said Collector V. Saravanan on Monday. Mr. Saravanan told presspersons that all city buses would continue to originate from the Central Bus Stand, reach the IBT via Mannarpuram roundabout, and return on the same route. Given the expected commuter volume, city bus services at Panjapur will begin as early as 3 a.m. daily. The bus fares had not been increased. All mofussil buses will operate from the new bus terminus. Buses entering Tiruchi from Chennai, Tirupati, Vellore, Villupuram, Kancheepuram, and Puducherry will take the No. 1 Tollgate, Old Palpannai, National Highway route to reach the IBT and return on the same route. Buses from Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Velankanni, and Karaikal will reach the IBT via Thuvakudi, Tiruverumbur, Old Palpannai, TVS Tollgate, and Mannarpuram roundabout. Buses from Namakkal, Salem, and Bengaluru will go via the No. 1 Tollgate, Old Palpannai, TVS Tollgate, and Mannarpuram roundabout to reach the terminus. Buses from Pudukottai, Aranthangi, and Rameshwaram will reach the terminus via the Airport, TVS Tollgate, and Mannarpuram roundabout. While buses from Manapparai, Dindigul, Palani and Kumuli will go via Junction Roundabout and the Mannarpuram roundabout route to reach the IBT. Buses from Karur, Erode, Thiruppur, and Coimbatore will take the Chathiram bus stand, Karur Bypass, Sastri Road, District court, Collectorate, VOC Street, Central Bus Stand, Mannarpuram Roundabout route to reach the terminus. Buses from Madurai, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, and Tirunelveli will reach the bus terminus via the national highway. Mofussil buses will operate as usual from the Chathiram bus stand. Omni buses can pick up passengers from the temporarily allotted long-term parking bay near the IBT. The operators should not park the omnibuses near the Central bus stand and pick up passengers. All buses entering the IBT will enter via Security Gate CP-2, and all buses, except Madurai-bound buses, leaving the terminus will go up to the Panjapur Junction on the national highway and then take a U-turn. About 20 tea shops, 12 food stalls, and 10 snack counters have been set up for the passengers. A total of 228 workers have been deployed to maintain cleanliness at the terminus. The city police have deployed 52 personnel for the protection of the passengers. Arrangements for auto and taxi service have been made. Around 30 volunteers have been appointed to assist passengers, and training has been provided to them, and three battery-operated vehicles are kept on standby for senior citizens. A 24-hour on-call health desk with an ambulance is stationed at the facility, the Collector said.

Flight delays or diversions have come under intense scrutiny after the devastating Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, which killed 241 out of the 242 passengers on board, along with over 30 others on the ground. The incident took place on Friday (June 20). The problem in the Lucknow-bound IndiGo flight 6E 146 was detected before the aircraft began taxiing, and as a precautionary measure, all passengers were deboarded safely, sources told news agency ANI. The issue was identified prior to departure, and the aircraft did not proceed with takeoff. The affected passengers were either accommodated on alternate flights or offered a full refund. This happened a day after an IndiGo flight on its way to Chennai from Guwahati, carrying with 168 passengers on board, had to make an emergency landing at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru after issuing a mayday call as it 'ran out of fuel". The A320 aircraft, operating as flight 6E2006, had taken off from the national capital and remained airborne for more than two hours before the issue was detected. According to data from flight tracking platform Flightradar24, the plane turned back mid-air and safely landed in Delhi. 'The incident occurred on June 19. The flight was scheduled to arrive in Chennai at about 7.45 pm, but due to bad weather in Chennai, it could not land. The pilot opted to divert the flight to Bengaluru, but realised they ran out of fuel. So, he alerted the airport with a mayday call," the airline spokesperson told PTI. On Friday, a Madurai-bound flight suffered a technical snag mid-air on Friday and returned to Chennai after flying for about 30 minutes. Budget carrier IndiGo's Guwahati-Chennai flight, with 168 passengers, made an emergency landing in Bengaluru after pilots declared 'mayday' due to "insufficient fuel", said sources. The incident comes just a week after Air India Dreamliner flight to London crashed shortly after take-off in Ahmedabad. The incident took place on Thursday and both pilots have been derostered. The Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner issued a mayday call shortly before it crashed around lunchtime on June 12, bursting into a fireball as it hit residential buildings. The IndiGo plane, which was critically low on fuel, made a safe landing in Bengaluru. "After getting the distress call, the ATC (Air Traffic Control) alerted the on-ground staff members who swung into action. Medical and fire services personnel were in place. The aircraft landed safely at 8:20 pm," the Times of India reported, quoting sources at the Kempegowda International Airport. On Friday, a Madurai-bound Indigo flight suffered a technical snag mid-air and sought permission to fly back to Chennai and land, sources said. The plane, carrying about 68 passengers, landed safely and all the passengers were deplaned with due safety measures in place, sources added.

Air India cancels 8 flights, four of them int'l services
Mumbai: Air India has cancelled eight flights, including four international services, on Friday due to enhanced maintenance and operational reasons, the airline said. Air India said its teams on the ground are making alternative arrangements for the passengers to fly to their respective destinations at the earliest. It has also offered full refunds on cancellation or complimentary rescheduling to passengers, the airline said. The international flights to be cancelled were AI906 from Dubai to Chennai, AI308 from Delhi to Melbourne, AI309 from Melbourne to Delhi, and AI2204 from Dubai to Hyderabad. Air India said four domestic flights -- AI874 from Pune to Delhi, AI456 from Ahmedabad to Delhi, AI-2872 from Hyderabad to Mumbai, and AI571 from Chennai to Mumbai -- have been cancelled. A Madurai-bound Indigo flight suffered a technical snag mid-air on Friday and returned here, airport officials and sources in the airline said. After flying for about half an hour, the pilot of the flight detected the snag, and sought permission to fly back to Chennai and land, they said. The plane, carrying about 68 passengers, later landed safely here and all the passengers were deplaned with due safety measures in place, they added.

A Madurai-bound IndiGo flight returned to Chennai after a mid-air technical snag on Friday, a day after two Kolkata-Northeast flights were delayed due to similar issues, triggering safety concerns New Delhi An IndiGo flight bound for Madurai was forced to return to Chennai on Friday morning after encountering a mid-air technical snag, according to a report by The Economic Times. About 30 minutes into the flight, the pilot detected the issue and sought permission to return to Chennai. The aircraft, carrying approximately 68 passengers, landed safely. All passengers were deplaned without incident. As per the report, the flight had pushed back from stand 48 at 6:44 am, ahead of its scheduled departure at 6:55 am. However, during taxiing, the crew reported a technical fault, and the aircraft returned to the same stand at 7:17 am. IndiGo has not yet released an official statement on the incident. The event occurred just a day after two other IndiGo flights from Kolkata to the Northeast were delayed due to technical issues. On Thursday morning, an IndiGo flight from Kolkata to Silchar, carrying 155 passengers, had to return to the ramp after the crew reported a snag in its Airbus A320 aircraft.
