Magesi FC announces John Maduka as new coach ahead of 2025/26 season

MAGESI FC have hired Malawian John Maduka as their new coach for the upcoming Betway Premiership 2025/26 season. The Limpopo outfit revealed the former Royal AM coach, Maduka as their new coach on their social media platform X. " HE'S HERE! M agesi Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of John Maduka as head coach. Welcome to the family!" Maduka replaces Owen da Ga who could not reach an agreement with the club on the terms of a contract renewal after he saved the club from relegation. Da Gama joined Magesi in December as a replacement for Clinton Larsen who had earned the club promotion and even led them to winning the Carling Knockout, courtesy of a shock 2-1 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns. Larsen and the club parted ways as the Magesi struggled for good results in the league campaign. Under Da Gama, they did not really do much better although their ability to avoid defeats at their new home of Seshsgo Stadium - they were previously using the old Peter Mokoba Stadium as their homeground - they garnered enough points to avoid the drop. They finished in 13th place to retain their elite league status. Now Maduka, the former Malawian international who was in charge of Royal AM, takes over the baton and expectations from Dikwena. His mandate will be that he helps the team end much higher than the precarious 13th place. Maduka was with Royal AM whose season ended prematurely due to club owner Shaun Mkhize's troubles with the South African Revenue Services. He previously coached Bloemfomtein Celtic. Details of his contract will be revealed at the press conference coming up in the afternoon.

Magesi FC Shake Things Up After Survival as Da Gama Departs

Magesi FC appear to be fixing what many would argue wasn't broken, the Limpopo outfit having severed ties with coach Owen da Gama — the man who helped them stave off relegation from the Betway Premiership last season. Not only that, but the club is clearly undergoing a rebuild, having released a massive 10 players ahead of their second season in the elite league — some of them notable names. Magesi looked destined for the drop after parting ways with Clinton Larsen, who had guided them to Carling Knockout glory at the expense of Mamelodi Sundowns. In came Da Gama, who managed to steady the ship, with the club also switching their home ground from the old Peter Mokaba Stadium to the Seshego Stadium. At the compact township venue, Magesi proved nearly invincible, going unbeaten for more than five matches after losing their maiden game there. As a result, Dikwena tša Meetse (the Crocodiles) finished the season just above the play-off spot in 13th, securing their top-flight status. While some squad strengthening was expected if the club hoped to be more competitive in the upcoming campaign, few would have predicted Da Gama's sacking. However, it appears there was a disagreement over the terms of his contract renewal, and it remains unclear who will replace him.

Orlando Pirates' best player is returning

Orlando Pirates had to deal with key injuries at various junctures this season. However, things are looking up for the next campaign. Thabiso Sesane started the campaign in domineering form, becoming a pillar in the heart of their defence. It was, therefore, a massive blow to the club and player when he was cruelly struck down with a serious tendon injury in February. The rupture was deemed bad enough for the 24-year-old to undergo surgery. Full recovery could take anywhere between four and six months. If Sesane's rehabilitation goes well, he could be back in time for the start of the 2025-2026 season. Orlando Pirates fans are expectant on Soweto Derby Day. It was Maela's swansong appearance after which he got a standing ovation and sendoff by the home fans. Patrick Maswanganyi opened the scoring for the Buccaneers in the 7th minute, and Zimbabwean veteran Edmore Chirambare equalised for the visitors on 32 minutes. The 32-year-old was a bit-part player in his swansong season after falling down the pecking order in defence. Always praised for his versatility, Maela could seamlessly operate at left-back or in the heart of defence. Click for Maela's final stats and legacy Are you excited to see Sesane back in action?
