Maha Mumbai Metro records 3.01 lakh single-day ridership on July 8, the highest so far
Maha Mumbai Metro achieved its highest single-day ridership on July 8 as 3.01 lakh commuters availed the Metro services. This is the highest single-day passengers recorded till date since commencement of operations and marks a milestone in the Metro network, according to the officials. 'Our ridership is increasing by an average of 5% every month. This reflects the trust commuters have in our services. We remain committed to providing uninterrupted, safe, timely and environment-friendly service to the people of Mumbai,' said Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, Metropolitan Commissioner, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and Chairman Maha Mumbai Metro. The operational lines of the Maha Mumbai Metro are Line 2A (Dahisar East to DN Nagar) and Line 7 (Dahisar East to Gundavali), linking the western suburbs and providing an essential means of east-west and north-south travel. On the same day, Maha Mumbai Metro also made another record–usage of paperless tickets on WhatsApp. A total of 62,282 riders made use of the ticketing service based on WhatsApp, which the authority asserts is the maximum since the facility came into operation. Maha Mumbai Metro said that nearly 20% of its total ticket sales are conducted via WhatsApp, representing the highest in the country among Metro systems to be implemented on this platform. The WhatsApp ticketing feature provides passengers with the facility to reserve QR code-based tickets on their mobile phone directly, thus skipping queues and helping to reduce paper usage.

Alert staff rescues toddler at Mumbai Metro station
Mumbai: A potentially dangerous incident was averted at Bangur Nagar Metro Station when a two-year-old child accidentally stepped out of a metro coach moments before the doors began to close. Thanks to the alertness and swift action of station attendant Sanket Chodankar, the situation was brought under control within seconds. Noticing the child alone on the platform, Chodankar immediately alerted the train operator to halt departure and reopen the doors. He then rushed to ensure the child's safety and reunite the toddler with their guardian. Officials from Maha Mumbai Metro praised the attendant's quick thinking and commitment to passenger safety. "Such presence of mind reinforces the high standards of safety and responsiveness maintained by our frontline staff," said a spokesperson. Maha Mumbai Metro achieves record daily ridership of 2.94 lakh
Mumbai: The Maha Mumbai Metro achieved its highest-ever daily ridership on June 18, 2025, with 2,94,681 commuters using the city's Metro Lines 2A and 7. This development marked a new milestone in Mumbai's urban transit journey. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Officials from the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL) said, "The record numbers are attributed to the growing trust of Mumbaikars, seamless operations, and the widespread adoption of its digital ticketing system." The official further stated that over 65% of the tickets on that day were booked via the WhatsApp-based ticketing platform, reflecting the success of its technology-driven commuter services. "This achievement is a reflection of Mumbaikars' continued confidence in the metro network and the relentless commitment of our staff. We are grateful for the support and enthusiasm shown by our commuters," said a senior MMMOCL official. This surpasses the previous ridership high of over 2.92 lakh recorded on October 8, 2024, the day Mumbai received its new metro connection between Aarey Colony and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). Earlier, on June 6, 2024, the network recorded a ridership of 2,60,471 in a single day. Metro Lines 2A and 7, operated by MMMOCL, have become vital cogs in Mumbai's suburban transport ecosystem. The 18.6-km-long Metro Line 2A connects Dahisar to D N Nagar via 17 stations, linking with Metro Lines 1, 2B, and 6. Meanwhile, the 16.5-km-long Metro Line 7 runs from Dahisar East to Andheri East, significantly decongesting the Western Express Highway and integrating with key metro corridors across the city.

Mumbai: Maha Mumbai Metro emerged as the national leader in WhatsApp-based metro ticketing , with 19% of all ticket bookings in April 2025 made through the instant messaging platform—marking the highest adoption rate among metro systems in in Oct 2024, this smart and user-friendly ticketing feature transformed the way Mumbaikars travel, simplifying the booking process and propelling the city's shift towards digital transit solutions . The WhatsApp system complements other digital channels, with April figures showing 44% of bookings made via the National Common Mobility Card ( NCMC ), 35% through paper QR tickets, and 2% via the mobile Lines 2A and 7 , which span a combined 35 km across the western suburbs—from Dahisar to DN Nagar and Dahisar East to Gundavali respectively—saw a ridership peak of 2,92,575 in a single day, setting a new milestone. 19% of Mumbai Metro users book tickets on WhatsApp, highest among all metros
Maha Mumbai Metro has achieved the highest share of WhatsApp ticketing among all metro systems in the country, with 19 per cent of all tickets reserved through the messaging app, officials said in a statement. Introduced in October 2024, the WhatsApp ticketing system has swiftly become a preferred choice for Mumbai's metro commuters. The user-friendly and quick ticketing solution is part of the broader digital strategy rolled out by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to make public transport more seamless, accessible and environmentally sustainable. In total, 65 per cent of metro commuters use digital ticketing with 44 per cent through the National Common Mobility Card, 19 per cent through WhatsApp, and 2 per cent through the metro's mobile app. The rest, amounting to 35 per cent, are paper QR tickets. The WhatsApp system allows users to buy and accept QR code tickets on the messaging app without queuing up or using additional apps. In ridership, Maha Mumbai Metro achieved a new high recently at 2,92,575 passengers in a day on Lines 2A and 7. Andheri West and Gundavali are the busiest, both in terms of visits and use of digital tickets. Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA, said: 'With WhatsApp ticketing at the forefront, we are fulfilling our vision of 'Mumbai in Minutes' — a city where travel is seamless, smart and sustainable.
