Priority for timely completion of infrastructure projects, says new Tiruchi Collector

Collector V. Saravanan on Wednesday said he would accord priority for timely implementation of ongoing infrastructure projects in Tiruchi and other parts of the district. Speaking to reporters after assuming office as the new Collector of Tiruchi, he said a number of high-stake infrastructural projects had been taken up in the district. Construction of an integrated vegetable market named after social reformist E.V. Ramasamy (Periyar) at Panjapur, building of a bridge across the Cauvery in the city, laying of approach roads on Fort Station Road, construction of a library named after former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj and Olympic Academy were among the projects. They would be implemented within the prescribed time limit. He would closely monitor their progress and sort out interdepartmental issues, if any. Mr. Saravanan, who held the post of Commissioner of Tiruchi Corporation prior to his appointment as Collector of Tiruchi, said several roads in the city were damaged due to the underground drainage work. Work orders were given for relaying and improving the roads to a length of 107 km. He would use his work as the Commissioner of Tiruchi Corporation for the overall betterment of the city. Priority would be given for the issuance of free house pattas to the poor and implementing the relaxation of rules for regularisation of house sites for those living on the government lands for long. All long-pending issues and unsolved petitions would be sorted out. People could freely approach him and other competent authorities to air their grievances. Mr. Saravanan said special camps would soon be conducted for receiving petitions from the public for availing benefits of various schemes including Mahalir urimaithoragai. To a question on opening the recently inaugurated integrated bus terminus at Panjapur, the Collector said the process of selecting a firm for operation and maintenance of the facility was on and it had reached an advanced stage. Once it was completed, the IBT would be thrown open to the public.
