Govt to distribute 10k high-yielding cows to farmers: CM

1 2 3 Bhubaneswar: State govt will distribute 10,000 high-milk yielding cows to farmers under the Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana, announced chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday. An MoU was signed between the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation (Omfed) in Cuttack on Saturday, under which NDDB will facilitate the supply of 3,000 to 4,000 high-milk-yielding cows of Gir, Sahiwal and cross-bred varieties to dairy farmers in the state. Plans are also underway to set up a biogas plant with NDDB's support, aiming at sustainable energy and added income for livestock owners. Majhi launched milk powder packaging machines and handed over 22 new milk tankers to various dairy societies. Built at an investment of Rs 7.5 crore, the capacity of the tankers ranges from 2,000 to 15,000 litres. Additionally, three advanced milk packaging machines worth Rs 3.5 crore were inaugurated to increase processing capacity. "The initiatives will enhance milk procurement from farmers, with the state aiming to increase its current daily milk production of 72 lakh litres to 165 lakh litres by 2036 and 274 lakh litres by 2047," Majhi said. He further said that a contract has been signed between Omfed and Shree Jagannath Temple Administration for supplying around 30 metric tonnes of ghee for Mahaprasad and other rituals. Besides, the federation is now focusing on producing value-added dairy products such as paneer, butter, chhenapoda, ice cream, flavoured milk, mishti doi, peda and rabdi, among others. "These initiatives are also opening new income avenues for Odisha's youth," Majhi said. During the event, the CM interacted with dairy farmers, inquiring about their challenges and receiving feedback. The event was attended by minister for fisheries and animal resources development Gokulananda Mallik, Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab, Omfed chairman Kishore Chandra Pradhani, NDDB dairy services director Debanand, Omfed director Vijay Amrut Kulange, among others. UP CM Yogi performs special puja on Guru Purnima, holds Janta Darshan

Gorakhpur, July 10 (UNI) On the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Goraksha Peethadhishwar Yogi Adityanath performed a special worship of Shivavatar Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath at the Gorakhnath Temple today, honouring the rich traditions of the Nath sect. He paid heartfelt tributes to his Gurudev, Brahmalin Mahant Avedyanath, Dadaguru Brahmalin Mahant Digvijaynath, Yogiraj Baba Gambhirnath, and all the revered gurus of the Nath tradition, offering rituals and expressing gratitude for their lifelong guidance on the path of public service and spiritual upliftment. The Guru Purnima rituals began at 5 AM amid Vedic chants and concluded with a collective Mahaarati. Following the tradition, Mahaprasad was offered to Guru Gorakhnath. While Guru worship is a part of Yogi Adityanath's daily routine at the temple, Guru Purnima holds a special significance. On this day, he performed ceremonial worship at the Samadhi sites of his spiritual forebears and extended warm wishes of Guru Purnima to the people of the country. Meanwhile, despite a packed Guru Purnima schedule, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a Janta Darshan in Gorakhpur today, reaffirming his government's commitment to resolving public grievances with urgency and empathy. After morning rituals, he met nearly 200 people at the Gorakhnath temple complex, hearing their concerns and assuring timely redressal. Many citizens, including women, raised issues related to land disputes and illegal encroachments. The Chief Minister took serious note and directed officials to take swift and strict action. He stressed that resolutions must be prompt, effective, and leave complainants fully satisfied, reiterating that grievance redressal must be both result-oriented and people-centric. For those seeking financial assistance for treatment of serious illnesses, CM Yogi assured them that lack of money would not hinder anyone's medical care. He instructed the administration to expedite the preparation of cost estimates for the concerned patients and submit them to the government immediately so that funds could be released without delay. Vacant Gundicha Templa waits for sibling deities for a year

Bhubaneswar: The Gundicha Temple in Puri has fallen silent, returning to solitude as the sibling deities — gods Jagannath, Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra — departed for their main abode, Jagannath Temple, during Saturday's Bahuda Yatra. The Gundicha shrine, believed to be the deities' birthplace, will remain vacant until next year's Rath Yatra. "This remarkable temple holds a unique distinction, as it's presumably the only shrine where the sanctum sanctorum remains vacant (without any deity) except for about a week when the divine siblings visit their birthplace during Rath Yatra," said Binayak Dasmohapatra, a senior servitor of the Jagannath Temple. "Only a humble earthen lamp continues to illuminate their consecrated podium at Gundicha Temple following their departure," said Dasmohapatra. This usually quiet temple transformed into a vibrant and bustling spiritual centre, hosting 25 daily rituals and serving Mahaprasad to countless devotees, akin to the Jagannath temple, ever since the deities arrived on June 28 a day after Rath Yatra. Although the temple will remain without its principal deities for worship, pilgrims maintain unrestricted access to the sacred premises. On normal days, the temple receives about 200 devotees. The architectural marvel stands within an extensively landscaped garden, earning its endearing nickname as the Lord's "garden house". The garden is home to diverse vegetation, including coconut palms, magnificent mango trees, medicinal neem trees, and aromatic plants such as sacred "tulasi", fragrant roses, and jasmine. The entire temple complex is encompassed by a boundary wall measuring 430 feet in length, 320 feet in breadth, and reaching a height of 20 feet. Local devotees expressed profound emotional attachment and a sense of emptiness following the deities' departure. "The void becomes palpable after the Bahuda Yatra. This year's farewell carries additional emotional weight due to the unprecedented and tragic stampede incident on June 29, which claimed three precious lives outside the Gundicha Temple. Such a heartbreaking occurrence was previously unheard of at this sacred site, which remains intrinsically connected to Jagannath culture during the Rath Yatra," said Sovan Pattnaik, a local devotee. The temple's historical and spiritual significance is deeply rooted in various legendary narratives, particularly highlighting Queen Gundicha's unwavering devotion to Lord Jagannath. Somanath Pujapanda, a Jagannath researcher, said, "Multiple fascinating legends surround the Gundicha temple's origins. One prominent narrative recounts how Queen Gundicha, wife of King Indradyumna, demonstrated exceptional devotion to Lord Jagannath. Moved by her profound dedication, the Lord promised to visit her residence during the Ratha Yatra. Another legend designates this sacred space as the birthplace of the divine siblings." Recent renovations have enhanced the shrine's exterior appearance with stone-cladding, landscaping, and improved lighting. "With conclusion of Rath Yatra, the Odisha Bridge & Construction Corporation Limited will undertake comprehensive renovation inside Gundicha temple, including improvements to the kitchen and Nata Mandap. Murals highlighting Jagannath culture will be crafted on walls inside the shrine," said Arabinda Kumar Padhee, chief administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration.
