Kajol says Nysa doesn't want daughters; admits being friends with kids isn't easy: ‘Hope they can tell me about people they like'
Kajol recently opened up about parenting and how, like every parent, she had to change her approach as her children grew up. The actor shared that she is now more like a friend to her kids – daughter Nysa and son Yug – than a parent and wants to be approachable enough for them to have any kind of conversation with her. While speaking to Instant Bollywood, Kajol recalled how she used to scold her daughter Nysa and tell her that she would only understand things once she became a mom. In response, Nysa once told her that she would only have sons and not daughters. Kajol said, 'She thinks sons are easy.' She added, 'I have worked a lot on building a relationship with my kids. Being friends with kids doesn't come naturally to mothers because we devote ourselves to being mothers. And all of us have to become friends with our kids after a point, and when we try to do that, it gets difficult. We have to try hard to be friends with kids and have those uncomfortable conversations with them and carry those uncomfortable feelings with us – all this to become friends with our kids.' Kajol continued, 'I have made sure that I am a mother but I am also open enough for my kids to come to me and tell me about their lives.' She emphasised that as parents, it is important to listen to kids without judgment. When asked if her kids talk to her about their relationships, she said, 'I hope they can tell me that. My son is young but my daughter definitely – we would have those conversations.' While it was earlier anticipated that, like her parents, Nysa would also join the Hindi film industry, Kajol had dismissed such claims in a previous interaction. 'Bilkul nai… No, woh 22 saal ki ho gayi hai, hone wali hai abhi. I think she has made up her mind that ki nai aane wali hai abhi (Definitely not. She is 22 years old, and I think she has made up her mind that she isn't interested in Bollywood currently),' she had said at a News18 event. On the work front, Kajol will next be seen in Maa, a horror film that is a spinoff of Ajay Devgn's 2024 film Shaitaan. The film will release on June 27. She also has Sarzameen and Maharagni: Queen of Queens in the pipeline.
