Industrial electricity tariff in Maharashtra to be cheaper than other states: CM Fadnavis

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said in the state council said that the industrial electricity tariff in his state will be the lowest compared to other states. According to the new tariff, Maharashtra's tariff is currently Rs 8.32 per unit, which will come down to Rs 7.38 in the next phase. In comparison, Tamil Nadu's tariff is Rs 9.04, Gujarat Rs 8.98 and Karnataka Rs 7.55. Industrial electricity tariff in Maharashtra will remain low in the next few years. Also, the tariff will not increase due to the tariff true-up process, he added. CM Fadnavis said this while replying to a question raised by member Abhijit Vanzari about the measures being taken to reduce the increase in electricity tariff in the state. The Chief Minister, who holds the energy department portfolio, said that electricity procurement will now be done through the 'Merit Order Dispatch' method. Due to this, electricity is purchased from private companies at cheaper rates. Also, the cost of purchasing electricity has come down significantly due to the use of solar, wind and battery storage. Since this is a long-term (25-year) contract, electricity prices will remain stable, he added. CM Fadnavis said that in the previous tariff petition, industrial and commercial tariffs were reduced by putting a burden on residential consumers. But due to objections to this raised by the state run power distribution company Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (Mahavitaran), now tariffs have been reduced in all categories during the recent order released by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission. 'About 70 per cent of consumers consume electricity below 100 units and they will get a 26 per cent rate cut. Along with this, there will also be a rate cut on consumption above 100 units,' he said. 'Significant changes have also been made in the solar pump schemes for farmers and a new scheme has been introduced for booster pumps. The cost of the single pole scheme is only Rs 15,000. Farmers are ready to be provided with 10 HP horsepower solar pumps as per their requirement. If there is any complaint in this regard, it is being resolved on the Solar Unified Portal,' said the chief minister. CM Fadnavis informed that smart meters will be installed in the agricultural sector to control electricity consumption. This will make it possible to understand exactly how much electricity is used for agriculture. This will allow accurate measurement of electricity consumption in the agricultural sector and will help in formulating future policies, he added. According to the chief minister, a separate solarisation proposal has been prepared for lift irrigation. He mentioned that provision of electricity through conventional methods in dark zones will also be considered.

Amid criticism of lapses in discom's functioning, Maha minister promises meeting to discuss issues

Mumbai: Shiv Sena legislator Nilesh Rane on Friday strongly criticised the functioning of the state distribution company, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MahaVitaran) and its apathy towards consumers, especially from the Konkan region. During discussion on a calling attention motion, Rane said: "Ninety per cent of the employees in MahaVitaran are contractual. They are not even given proper training. As of today, 11 contractual workers have died. There has been total neglect as the consumers have to stay without electricity for many hours.' He took a dig at the minister of state for energy, Meghana Sakore Bordikar that the people from Sindhudurg district and Konkan region in general have become used to lack of power due to MahaVitaran's inaction. Thereafter, the minister announced that a meeting of representatives from the Konkan region will be convened soon to address various issues with regard to MahaVitaran and thereby ensure continuity in the supply of electricity. Rane was later joined by other legislators who also complained about faulty functioning of the MahaVitaran demanding an immediate action. Rane conducted a panchnama on the work of the electricity distribution company in Konkan, especially in Sindhudurg district. 'For the past many years, DPs have been in poor condition. Electricity poles have fallen. In the last 15 years, roads have been dug to lay underground wires, but the work is incomplete,' he claimed. He strongly attacked the delay and lapses in the management of MahaVitaran. He also demanded that Konkan should get adequate funds for strengthening the power supply infrastructure. Responding to the questions raised by Nilesh Rane, Minister Meghna Bordikar said the work of laying underground cables is underway through the National Cyclone Hazard Mitigation Project. Out of 635 km, laying of cables for 225 kilometers have been completed. She further said that various works are underway under the revised distribution area plan. However, Rane was not satisfied with her answer. 'I am also aware of the printed reply. Go beyond that and answer my questions," Rane said, demanding a meeting on this issue. On this, Minister Bordikar announced to hold a meeting. During the discussion, Rane received support from Bhaskar Jadhav (Shiv Sena-UBT) and Rohit Pawar (NCP-SP) who also exposed the shortcomings of Mahavitaran.

Govt sanctions over Rs2,500 crore to MSEDCL for power subsidies

Nagpur: The Maharashtra govt has approved a substantial disbursement of over Rs2,500 crore towards electricity subsidies across agricultural, industrial, and textile sectors under various state schemes to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company ( MSEDCL ) for the financial year 2025-26. Three separate government resolutions (GR) were issued by the state govt in this regard on Wednesday. As part of the Chief Minister Baliraja Free Electricity Scheme, an amount of Rs1,864 crore was sanctioned to be disbursed in cash to the MSEDCL. The funds will be exclusively used to provide free or subsidised electricity to agricultural pump consumers. The approved amount is part of the larger Rs15,000 crore provisioned for the scheme in the state's 2025-26 budget. The financial aid will benefit farmers using pump sets up to 7.5 HP capacity and is aimed at reducing the burden of electricity expenses on the farming community. The scheme, which began in April 2024, will continue for five years till March 2029. As per MSEDCL sources, under the scheme, free electricity is being provided to agricultural pumps up to 7.5 horsepower in the state from April 2024. "This scheme provides benefits to farmers across the state, including over 9.48 lakh farmers owning agricultural pumps in Nagpur, Wardha, Akola, Buldhana, Washim, Amravati, Yavatmal, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, and Bhandara districts in the Nagpur regional division," MSEDCL sources said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo Similarly, the state govt has also allocated Rs400 crore from the Rs1,000 crore earmarked for electricity rate concessions to industrial consumers. However, instead of a cash transfer, this amount will be settled through inter-departmental adjustment, recovering it from Maharashtra State Transmission Company Ltd (MSETCL) and crediting it under the relevant subsidy account. This move aims to ensure electricity tariff relief to the state's industrial sector. Similarly, to support the textile industry, the govt has approved a subsidy of Rs240 crore out of the Rs600 crore provisioned for the year. This, too, will be disbursed through adjustment, without any cash transfer, and will be offset against outstanding dues to MSEDCL.
