Unseasonal rains in May & June deal a Rs 9 crore blow to MSEDCL in dist
Nagpur: Unseasonal rains accompanied by strong winds in May and June caused extensive damage to Nagpur district's power infrastructure, resulting in a financial setback of over Rs 9 crore for the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited ( MSEDCL ). The torrential downpour brought down trees, snapped power lines, bent electric poles, and led to widespread waterlogging, severely affecting daily life and disrupting electricity supply across the district. According to data shared by MSEDCL, 562 high-tension (HT) and 2,344 low-tension (LT) electric poles were damaged. Additionally, 38.33 kilometres of HT overhead lines and 205.01 kilometres of LT lines were impacted. "The damage also includes the collapse of four distribution boxes and nine distribution points, while 185 distribution transformers were hit. Five single-phase meters and equipment at two substations were also reported damaged," said MSEDCL. The company estimates that around 150 metres of HT and 80 metres of LT lines were completely ruined, taking the total loss to approximately Rs 9.06 crore. MSEDCL had to deploy additional manpower and resources to carry out restoration work. "Despite the scale of destruction, our field staff responded with urgency. They worked day and night, often under harsh weather conditions, to restore power in villages and urban pockets plunged into darkness. Their continuous efforts ensured that power supply was resumed at several locations soon," said MSEDCL. The company's prompt response and the tireless work of its employees helped mitigate the crisis and restore essential services, providing much-needed relief to citizens affected by the unseasonal weather. To meet increased demand, MSEDCL boosts infra strengthening works Between March 1 and June 20, 2025, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) carried out a major upgrade of Nagpur district's power infrastructure to address the rising demand for electricity. In this short span of three and a half months, four new 33/11 kV substations were commissioned — two each in Mahal and Butibori divisions. Additionally, the company enhanced the capacity of power transformers at ten existing substations spread across Mahal, Civil Lines, Saoner, Umred, and Mouda. To further strengthen the local power network, MSEDCL also installed 471 new distribution transformers of various capacities across both urban and rural circles. These efforts aim to ensure a more stable and efficient power supply system while preparing the district to meet future energy needs.

MSEDCL starts helpline for issues related to agricultural solar pumps
Nagpur: Maharashtra has emerged as a national leader when it comes to installations of solar agricultural pumps, with more than 5.65 lakh pumps disbursed under various govt schemes. With plans under way to install another five lakh pumps, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has now taken a significant step to address the growing number of complaints regarding malfunctioning solar pump units. Acknowledging the need for timely resolution of these issues, MSEDCL has introduced a farmer-friendly system allowing complaints to be registered online or via phone. Farmers can now report problems such as non-functional pumps, damaged solar panels, faulty solar units, theft, or low water pressure from the comfort of their homes. The initiative aims to ensure quicker redressal of grievances and reinforcement of trust among beneficiaries. The new system comes in the wake of widespread damage caused by strong winds and heavy rainfall in late May, which affected solar energy panels in several areas. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Thị trường có dấu hiệu suy thoái không? Two try to set MSEDCL substation afire in Amravati
Amravati: In a shocking incident on Sunday afternoon, two youths allegedly tried to set afire the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) substation at Kharatalegaon, pouring petrol on the office furniture and setting it afire. They also allegedly attempted to burn junior engineer Gopal Ingle alive by pouring petrol on him. Fortunately, Ingle managed to escape. Based on Gopal Ingle's complaint, Walgaon police have registered a case of attempted murder and obstruction in government work against Avinash Nirmal and Vineet Tayade, both residents of Walgaon. The fire destroyed government documents and office furniture. The accused also vandalized the office windows. At the time of the incident, Gopal Ingle (38), a resident of Amravati, was on duty at the distribution centre along with senior technician Ajay Dhakade, machine operator Gopal Nerkar, and security guard Milind Panbude. Ingle had just accepted a petition from residents of Gajanandham (Revsa) regarding electricity supply issues when the two accused entered the office carrying four plastic bottles. They confronted Ingle, saying, "You people sit in the office doing nothing while we have no electricity. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Over 40 and Struggling With Belly Fat? Despite Ingle and his colleagues trying to calm them down, one of the attackers poured petrol across the office, including on desks and documents, while both men began throwing papers and threatening staff. While Ingle was recording the incident on his mobile phone, Vineet Tayade snatched it from him. Tayade then allegedly lit the petrol-soaked furniture on fire using a matchbox. The incident was partially captured on the phone before it was snatched. Out of fear, Ingle came out of the office and immediately informed the executive engineer about the incident. Meanwhile, the accused fled from the spot on a two-wheeler (MH 27 AB 858). Walgaon police have registered a case and started investigations.
