Written By Aryesh Chakraborty The Pune district has bagged the maximum number of positions in the Merit List for the Maharashtra State Scholarship Examination, the results of which were declared on Friday. In the Pre-Secondary Scholarship exam for Class 5 students, 68 students from Pune made it to the Merit List. Of these, 37 students were from rural areas, 19 from urban schools, and 12 from CBSE/ICSE schools. Notably, 47 of these students are from Zilla Parishad schools. In the Secondary Scholarship exam for Class 8 students, 57 Pune-based students secured positions in the Merit List, with 37 from rural and 20 from urban regions. Forty of these students belong to private aided Marathi-medium schools. 'This success symbolises the academic strength of the Pune district. The collective efforts of students, teachers, and school administrations have led to this remarkable performance. We hope this tradition of excellence continues,' said Gajanan Patil, Chief Executive Officer, Pune Zilla Parishad. The Maharashtra State Scholarship Examination was held in February. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar's ZP schools stage spectacular turnaround in state scholarship exams

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Close to 1700 Zilla Parishad (ZP) schools in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar recorded a spectacular turnaround in the Maharashtra State Scholarship Examination results for Classes 5 and 8. Official data showed massive improvement across key indicators compared to last year. The district has about 2,200 ZP schools Interestingly, all these results were achieved by imparting training through a mobile-based application, which daily uploaded videos of 25 minutes each for three months, with a facility to repeatedly watch each of these videos unlimited number of times. In terms of overall performance, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar's ZP schools outperformed the state average by significant margins. For Class 5, the district achieved a 39.85% success rate, well above the state average of 23.90% — a lead of 15.95%. The district secured the second rank statewide in both performance percentage and the number of eligible students. In stark contrast, it languished among the bottom ten districts in the state last year. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! The performance of Class 8 students witnessed an even sharper spike of 465%, as the number of eligible students climbed from 334 last year to 1,889 this year, indicating a six-fold rise. The results are said to be the outcome of the initiative taken a few months back by former ZP CEO Vikas Meena who was recently posted as Yavatmal district collector. Meena said, "ZP and its students were always capable of beating the competition. This is the success story of the students, who were provided the right support at the right time. The credit for the efforts goes to the teachers as well as the tech team." Echoing him, newly appointed CEO Ankit told TOI, "This achievement is a testament to the dedication of our teachers, the resilience of our students, and the commitment of the entire education team. The education department focused on early preparation, continuous mentoring, and strengthening basic learning skills — and the results are visible. This is just the beginning; we are determined to set even higher benchmarks for excellence in the years to come." ZP authorities maintained that a student is considered eligible after scoring a minimum of 40 per cent marks out of 300 marks question paper, having questions divided into 75 MCQs from intelligence/mental ability, 75 from mathematics, 25 from the first language (English/Marathi/Urdu), and 25 from the third language. Each question carries two marks. Participation rates also registered impressive growth. The number of students appearing for the exams went up by 71.84% for Class 5 and 67.46% for Class 8 compared to 2024. Officials said the sharp rise in participation was a direct outcome of focused awareness drives, early academic interventions, and the strengthening of foundational learning programmes across ZP schools. Class 8 results, too, brought cheer, with ZP schools posting a 22.27% success rate compared to the state's 19.30%, maintaining a 3% lead. While the margin was narrower than in Class 5, the scale of improvement was notable, as the number of eligible students jumped nearly six-fold over last year's figures. Senior education officials credited the remarkable turnaround to a series of sustained academic interventions introduced over a few months with the help of dentist-turned-educator Praveen Bansal. These included intensive remedial coaching comprising 25 minutes of daily video tutorials, weekly assessments, targeted mentoring for weaker students, and continuous monitoring of school-level performance metrics. "The collective efforts of teachers, school heads, and the education department, backed by the active involvement of parents, have yielded these results. We aim to maintain this momentum and further raise the academic standards in the coming years," a senior ZP official said. The results are seen as major morale booster for the district's education ecosystem, which grappled with concerns over quality and competitiveness for several years.
