If ceasefire with Pak possible, why not with Maoists: Telangana Congress chief

HYDERABAD: In a sharp reaction to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's criticism of Telangana Congress' appeal for initiating talks with Maoists, TPCC chief B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Monday wondered why a ceasefire and peace talks were not possible with left wing extremists, who are Indian citizens. He asked: 'When the same is possible with Pakistan with the intervention of US President Donald J Trump, why not with Maoists?' Speaking to the media on Monday after inspecting the arrangements for the proposed public meeting on July 4 at LB Stadium alongside ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Vakiti Srihari, MLAs and MPs, the TPCC chief said that Amit Shah was making accusations against the Congress as if the party was financing left-wing extremism. He clarified that the Maoists only sought a ceasefire and peace talks. 'We only requested a ceasefire with Maoists. Amit Shah is portraying it in different shades,' he said. Stating that AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge will hold a public meeting in the city against the 'fascist rule' by BJP at the Centre on July 4, he said that the party delegates from Gram Panchayat president to state office-bearers will attend the public meeting. He said the Political Affairs Committee, and extended Political Executive Committee meetings will be held the same day.

Hyderabad: The Congress party has geared up for a public meeting to be held in the city on July 4, in which AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge will attend as the chief guest. The party leadership will be highlighting this as a show of strength and unity. It also aims to mobilise public support for the upcoming local body polls and the Jubilee Hills bypoll, besides GHMC polls. The public meeting, which is part of the ongoing Congress campaign 'Jai Bapu, Jai Bheem, Jai Samvidhaan', will be attended by about 15,000, mostly party men. The PCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud has asked all the leaders, including village level presidents to make this a success. 'Jai Samvidhan program will emphasise the protection of the Constitution. Key leaders of all constituencies across the state should participate in the meeting and make it a success,' said Mahesh Goud during the preparatory meeting held at Gandhi Bhavan on Sunday. The meeting which was presided over by city in-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, also reviewed the party's strength in the city and preparedness for the GHMC polls. TPCC Political Affairs Committee to meet on July 4; village-level leaders' convention scheduled at LB stadium

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud on Sunday said that the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting of the Telangana Congress would be held on July 4 at Gandhi Bhavan. On the same day, a large party meeting is scheduled to take place at LB Stadium, which is to be attended by AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge. Speaking informally with mediapersons at Gandhi Bhavan, Mr. Mahesh Kumar Goud stated that around 15,000 grassroots-level Congress leaders are expected to participate in the LB Stadium event, which will be held under the aegis of the 'Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan' Committee. Responding to a question on the reported internal differences within the party — particularly between Minister Konda Surekha's group and other leaders, including MPs and MLAs from the erstwhile Warangal district — Mr. Mahesh Kumar said the party's disciplinary committee would look into the matter and take appropriate action. Criticising the BJP, Mr. Goud accused the ruling party at the Centre of pursuing fascist policies that, he claimed, posed a threat to the nation's democratic fabric. Referring to the unveiling of a statue of former PCC president Dharmapuri Srinivas, popularly known as DS, in Nizamabad by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Mr. Mahesh described Srinivas as a staunch Congressman and secular leader. He remarked that the late leader would have been deeply pained by the act, as he had never aligned with the ideologies of the BJP or RSS. Mr. Goud, who considers himself a political disciple of Srinivas, strongly criticised Srinivas's sons — Dharmapuri Arvind, BJP MP from Nizamabad, and Sanjay — for facilitating the event. He further announced that a statue of senior Congress leader and former minister Mukesh Goud would soon be installed in Hyderabad. Additionally, the TPCC has released the names of vice-presidents and general secretaries assigned to various parliamentary constituencies, along with a list of organisational in-charges for the party.

TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud, senior Congress leaders attend screening of 'Phule'

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 28 (ANI): Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud, along with senior Congress leaders, attended the screening of the biographical film 'Phule.' Directed by Ananth Mahadevan, the film highlights the inspiring lives of two of Maharashtra's most influential social reformers, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and his wife, Savitribai Phule, who were pivotal in challenging social injustices like caste and gender discrimination in India. While praising the film, TPCC President told ANI, 'Bahut achi film requested Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for tax exemption.. saare Telangana ke log is movie ko dekhenge to unko prerna milegi..) Earlier, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi also expressed his wholehearted support for the film 'Phule.' Taking to X, he wrote, ''Phule' is not just a film or a biography, it is a good initiative to recognize the history of the Bahujan society, which is missing from the mainstream of our education. More such films should be made that bring forth the Bahujan history and struggle - only by seeing, reading and recognising them will the voice of justice become louder.' 'Phule', starring Pratik Gandhi and Patralekhaa, was released on April 25, 2025, after it faced objections from certain groups concerning its portrayal of caste-based discrimination. Director Ananth Mahadevan, who was also present at the screening, shared his gratitude for Athawale's support.'The film is a true to history and we have made it with all our heart. I am glad AthawaleJi has endorsed the film today. Today, I am as happy as I am grateful to him for his wholehearted support for the film,' Mahadevan said. The film's core narrative is rooted in the struggles of the Phules, who fought against caste discrimination, illiteracy, and gender biases in 19th-century India. 'Phule' is produced by Dancing Shiva Films and Kingsmen Productions, with Zee Studios handling its film also features Vinay Pathak, Suresh Vishwakarma, and Darsheel Safary. (ANI)
