Gram rozgar sevak caught taking bribe for housing aid
Vadodara: Sleuths of the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) caught a gram rozgar sevak (GRS) while allegedly accepting a bribe for assistance provided under a housing scheme in Mahisagar district.
He demanded the bribe after the beneficiary had received two instalments.
The accused, Mahesh Vankar, was employed on contract for 11 months. He was responsible for overseeing aid given for construction of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Vankar allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 from the first and second instalments of aid. Vankar told the complainant, whose identity was not disclosed by the ACB, that if he did not pay, Vankar would ensure that the third instalment did not come.
The complainant did not want to pay the bribe and approached the ACB with a complaint. ACB sleuths laid a trap to nab Vankar and he was caught red-handed accepting Rs 10,000 as a bribe.
