MP cop didn't serve notice as asked. HC tells him to plant 1,000 fruit trees as punishment
The order issued by the Jabalpur bench of the MP High Court stated: 'SHO Ravendra Diwedi, presently posted at police station city Kotwali, has tendered [an] apology for not serving the victim [the HC notice] in time. He has promised not only to pay the cost of Rs 5,000 imposed on him by the Inspector General of Police but also to plant at least 1,000 trees between 1 July to 31 August at Chitrakoot in Satna district.' In an order issued 24 June, MP High Court justices Vivek Agarwal and Avanindra Kumar Singh directed Ravendra Dwivedi, the station house officer (SHO) of the Kotwali Police Station in Satna, to plant 1,000 fruit trees, including mango, jamun, Mahua, and guava, among others. Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh High Court, in a unique punishment, has ordered an inspector posted in Satna district to plant 1,000 fruit trees for his failure to pass on an HC-issued notice to a minor victim of a sexual offence. The order further pointed out, 'Let fruiting trees like mango, jamun, Mahua, guava, etc., be planted and their photograph sent alongside GPS location to the registry, in support of the compliance report.' The court also directed Ashutosh Gupta, Superintendent of Police (SP), Satna, to inspect the 1,000 planted trees before filing an affidavit, along with the compliance report. The court ordered inspector Dwivedi to bear the costs of planting the trees, as well as ensure their care for a year, which will be essential for their germination and survival. A senior police officer with the Madhya Pradesh Police explained that when an accused in a sexual offence challenged any conviction, the court would issue a notice to the victim. 'Through this notice, the victim has an opportunity to be present before the court and make themselves heard. This particular case concerns a sexual offence case from 2018 when the SHO's posting was at the Sabhapur Police Station in Satna.' 'The accused challenged the conviction, and subsequently, the court issued a notice to the victim. But, SHO Ravendra Diwedi failed to hand the notice over to the victim on time. In this regard, the court has pulled him up,' said the senior police officer. When The Print contacted Ashutosh Gupta, SP, Satna, said, 'We have received the order of the honourable court, and we will be complying with it.' Chhattisgarh cabinet gives nod to amend rules to appoint kin of cops martyred in Naxal violence
'Keeping in view the supreme sacrifice of the martyred police personnel, the cabinet has decided to amend Clause 13 (3) of the Unified Revised Instructions-2013 issued for compassionate appointment, following which in case of police personnel martyred in Naxalite violence, any eligible member (male or female) of their family can be given compassionate appointment in any other department, other than the police department, in any district or division of the state, on the basis of option,' an official release said. This decision was taken during a meeting of the state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai here. Raipur, Jun 18 (PTI) The Chhattisgarh cabinet on Wednesday gave its approval to amend rules for appointing on compassionate grounds the family members of the police personnel killed in Naxal violence in the state. Earlier, there was a system of making compassionate appointments, as far as possible, in the same department or office in which the deceased government servant was working before his death, it said. This development comes after Akash Rao Girepunje, Additional Superintendent of Police, Konta division in Sukma district, lost his life in a Naxalite-planted IED blast on June 9. The cabinet also decided to provide scholarships and stipends from the state funds to students belonging to Dihari Korwa, Baghel Kshatriya, Sansari Oraon and Pabiya, Pavia, Paviya communities at par with Scheduled Tribes and students of Domra caste at par with Scheduled Caste, it said. The students of these communities were deprived of these facilities as they were not included in the list of Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes due to some technical reasons, it said. The students of these communities will also be provided the facility of admission in hostels-ashrams (residential schools) under the approved seats, it said. The cabinet also gave a nod to draft notification for setting up 'State Mineral Exploration Trust' (SMET) for systematic exploration, prospecting and development of infrastructure for minor minerals in Chhattisgarh, it said. In Jashpur district (the home district of the CM), women self-help groups are engaged in the production of traditional products like herbal and Mahua tea under the brand name 'JashPure'. The cabinet approved a proposal to transfer this brand to the state government or CSIDC (Chhattisgarh State industrial Development Corporation) to provide a wider market for these products and promote marketing, it said. Tribal women turn forest flowers into Rs 1.67 lakh enterprise with Mahua laddus in Telangana's Cherla mandal
KHAMMAM: The sweet scent of sun-dried Mahua mingles with roasted nuts and ghee in Sunnam Gumpu village, Cherla mandal, where seven tribal women are cooking up more than just confections. Using forest-foraged Ipaa puvvu — the seasonal Mahua flower — they craft golden laddus that blend tradition, nutrition and enterprise. In just 45 days, they earned Rs 1.67 lakh. It began on April 6, when the women formed the 'Muthyalamma Joint Liability Group', inspired by District Collector Jitesh V Patil's Women's Day call for rural women to embrace entrepreneurship. With support from Turram Jyothi, a ZP High School teacher in Tegada, they began collecting Mahua in bulk during its short bloom season. The flowers are sun-dried and stored for year-round use. Each 20-gram laddu is made with pure ghee and a rich mix of sesame seeds, groundnuts, cashews, almonds, pistachios, pumpkin seeds and raisins. Sold locally at `800 per kg, the laddus are already popular in Cherla, Bhadrachalam and nearby towns. But the group has bigger dreams. 'With wider market access, this can become a crore-rupee business,' says group leader Sunnam Samakka. 'We moved from hard field labour to dignified work that supports our families.' Local physician Dr SL Kantha Rao says the laddus are as healthy as they are tasty — rich in iron, fibre, protein and vitamins A and C. 'They boost haemoglobin, aid digestion, improve vision and support heart health,' he says. Jyothi credits the district collector for lighting the spark. 'His speech stirred something in us. We just acted on it.' Collector Patil says empowering women like these is exactly what the administration aims to do.

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra recently tied the knot with former BJD MP Pinaki Misra in an intimate ceremony in Berlin, Germany. The MP took to her social media to share her wedding picture. The couple was seen cutting the wedding cake. Mahua ditched the bridal reds for her wedding and opted for a soft-pink hued Banarasi silk saree. In a series of pictures doing the rounds on social media, Mahua Moitra can be seen looking stunning in a pink Banarasi brocade saree by Raw Mango. The Indian fashion brand took to their social media to share pictures of the bride looking her finest on her wedding day. Thank you everyone for the love and good wishes!! So grateful — Mahua Moitra (@MahuaMoitra) June 5, 2025 For her wedding, Mahua opted for a custom Parigul saree by Raw Mango. The pale pink Baranasi brocade saree was woven with silk and real zari, and it featured rani pink meenakari work on the trellis of flowers. The Baranasi silk brocade sari takes inspiration from archival weaves. Woven in the traditional Kadwa style, the 'jangla' design is created by weaving each motif individually using an extra weft technique, resulting in a reverse side free from floating threads. Talking about the saree, Raw Mango wrote, 'Seen here in the custom Parigul sari, parliamentarian Mahua Moitra during her private wedding celebrations in Berlin, Germany. The Varanasi silk brocade sari, woven with real zari and pale pink silk, draws from archival textiles and features a play of rani pink meenakari in the floral jaal. It is woven using the elaborate Kadwa technique in a 'jangla' pattern, where each motif is woven separately utilising an extra weft insertion, and the reverse of the textile reveals the absence of thread floats. She pairs it with the pale pink Gulshera blouse in silk satin." Styled with the Gulshera blouse in silk satin, the ensemble beautifully bridged classic elegance with contemporary heirloom appeal. Mahua enhanced the look with timeless gold jewellery – maang tikka, jhumkas, a choker, and a layered necklace. Her hair was adorned with a fragrant floral gajra. While Mahua stunned in pink, Pinaki chose a bespoke quilted bundi, crafted from handwoven silk in a soft shade of pale pink, bringing a refined, personalized touch to his ensemble.
