Gauteng cop to appear in Limpopo court after girlfriend's house torched
A 46-year-old police sergeant stationed at Olievenhoutbosch SAPS in Gauteng is expected to appear in the Mahwelereng Magistrate's Court tomorrow on charges of attempted murder and arson.
According to Polokwane Review, he was arrested after the attempted murder of his girlfriend. Her home in in Lyden village, Bakenberg, Limpopo was set alight during an alleged domestic incident early on Thursday.
Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the man arrived at the woman's residence around 02:45 and became enraged when she did not respond to his knock.
'The suspect is alleged to have set fire to the curtains, which caused the entire two-roomed tin structure to burn down. The woman sustained injuries and was rescued by neighbours, who alerted emergency services,' his statement reads.
Ledwaba says the suspect, believed to be the victim's boyfriend, was traced and arrested the following day.
'The Independent Police Investigative Directorate has been informed and is handling the case further,' he confirms.
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised officers for their swift response.
