Mainz show interest in Danish prospect Oscar Fraulo

Sport Bild reports that Mainz 05 are interested in Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Oscar Fraulo. Since signing for his current Bundesliga outfit in the January 2022 transfer window, Fraulo has made just two appearances for the Gladbach senior side. The heavily-capped Danish youth international recently returned from an extended two-year loan-stint with FC Utrecht and maintains an estimated market value of €3.5m Despite the fact that Fraulo did enjoy some success in Holland's Eredivisie, the 21-year-old isn't thought to have much prospects with the Niederrheiner. Mainz head coach Bo Henriksen – who once coached Fraulo at Midtjylland between 2021 and 2022 – could offer the youngster some prospects. Fraulo's skill as an attacking midfielder could see him deployed among midfield mainstays Kaishu Sano and Nadiem Amiri. Advertisement German European representatives Mainz are themselves flush with cash following the finalization of Jonathan Burkardt's €21m sale to Eintracht Frankfurt. The Rheinhessen run an estimated +€12.5m summer transfer surplus. Such cash reserves will almost certainly yield two to three more signings. GGFN | Peter Weis

Juventus show interest in Mainz captain Silvan Widmer

Italy's Gazetta della Sport reports that Juventus may be interested in bringing Mainz 05 captain Silvan Widmer back to the Serie A. Widmer has been captaining his Bundesliga side since previous Mainz head coach Bo Svensson handed him the armband ahead of the 2022/23 season. The Swiss international has nevertheless played less of a role for the Rheinhessen in the two league campaigns since. Current Mainz head coach Bo Henriksen has always been quick to both praise and turn to Widmer whenever needed during his 18-month-tenure with the club. Henriksen still handed the 32-year-old only three league starts last season. On no occasion did Widmer go the full 90 minutes for the Nullfünfter. The right fullback/wingback was used 24 times off the bench. Advertisement Widmer enters the final year of his Mainz contract. Despite the player's stated enthusiasm for working with his current club in Europe next season, a move would make sense for both sides. Mainz appear prepared to cope with Anthony Caci's departure by installing Nicolas Veratschnig a trial at Widmer's position. Henriksen may also seek to name his own skipper ahead of the new season. Widmer enjoyed some of the finest years of his career playing for Udinese Calcio in the Serie A between 2013 and 2018. Mainz could easily pocket €1-2m for the man they once paid Basel €2.5m for. The Italian source references only loose enquires from Juventus at this juncture, but the strong logic accompanying a potential move may cause matters to move quickly. GGFN | Peter Weis

Everton join race for Mainz's Anthony Caci

TEAMtalk reports that Everton have joined the race to sign Mainz 05 wingback Anthony Caci. The Frenchman has previously been linked with Fulham and Leeds United. Entering the final year of his Bundesliga contract, Caci maintains a career high estimated market value of €12m. Whether Mainz remain amenable to selling Caci remains to be seen. The 27-year-old played an important role for Bo Henriksen's Rheinhessen this season, successfully filling in as a right wingback and even as central defender. Advertisement With 32-year-old captain Silvan Widmer not factoring into Henriksen's plans much anymore, the Mainzer head coach will have to decide whether 22-year-old Nicolas Veratschnig is prepared to fill Caci's position. Thus far in the summer transfer window, Mainz have signed another left back but made no direct efforts to find a replacement for Caci. The 2025/26 German Conference League representatives will wish to keep a deep squad. The fact that Mainz's total outlays this summer – thanks to the purchase of Benedict Hollerbach – leave the club approximately €8.5 in the red may nevertheless facilitate a sale. Caci joined Mainz on a free from Strasbourg in July 2022. GGFN | Peter Weis
