New Delhi, Jul 06 (UNI) India's most successful men's and women's skeet shooters at this level, Mairaj Ahmad Khan and Ganemat Sekhon, got themselves into good positions on day one of competitions at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Shotgun, in Lonato, Italy, on Sunday. Mairaj shot rounds of 24 and 25 in men's skeet while Ganemat shot 23 and 25 in the women's event, to emerge best placed among six Indians (three in each event) in contention. With three more qualifying rounds coming up over the next two days ahead of the final on Tuesday, their chances of making the top six look brightest, given both are one behind the leading pack. Ganemat, with two individual World Cup medals to her name and a finalist here in 2023, is in ninth spot, having shot a 25 in her second qualifying round, after opening with a 23. Six women led by Mexican Gabriela Rodriguez are leading with 49 points each. Olympians Maheshwari Chauhan (24, 22) and Raiza Dhillon (22, 23), were further down in the pecking order. In men's skeet, Olympian Mairaj Ahmad Khan, also a winner of two individual world cup medals including a gold, had a perfect second round as well to end the day on 49 hits. At least 15 shooters in the huge 176-strong (including RPOs) field, have shot scores of 50 each. Young Bhavtegh Gill also finished with a perfect 25 round to follow a 23, while Olympian Anant Jeet Singh Naruka missed one target in each of his two rounds. New Delhi [India], July 5 (ANI): A six-member Indian men's and women's skeet shooting squad will take first aim on Sunday (July 06, 2025) as competitions for the international season's fourth and final International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Shotgun stage, gets set to blast off at one of the sport's traditional amphitheaters, the Trap Concaverde in Lonato, Italy. While the Skeet squad have already arrived in the Italian town well in time and hit the training ground, a further six members of the Trap team are expected to come later in the day, as per a press release from the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI). The qualifying rounds of the men's and women's skeet competitions will begin on Sunday, with the first 50 targets on the roster for both events. The athletes come back on Monday for 50 more targets before the final round of 25 targets is played out on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, ahead of both finals. Indian hopes will rest with Olympians Mairaj Ahmad Khan (wr 105) and Anant Jeet Singh Naruka (wr 23) as well as Bhavtegh Gill (wr 43) in men's skeet. At the same time, the women also have two Olympians, Maheshwari Chauhan (WR 13) and Raiza Dhillon (WR 21), amongst their ranks, besides the accomplished Ganemat Sekhon (WR 63). A crack American trio led by the legend Vincent Hancock, Italians led by Gabriele Rossetti, Abdullah Al-Rashidi of Kuwait, Nasser Al-Attiya of Qatar, Azmy Mehelba of Egypt, Jesper Hansen of Denmark and Lee Meng-Yuan (Paris bronze) of Chinese Taipei, headline a top field in the men's skeet. The Indians will be up against it to make the top six. In women's skeet, an even bigger American shotgun legend, Kimberly Rhode, will lead another top American team. The skeet shooters will be in action over the next three days in the Shotgun World Cup in Lonato, Italy. Bhavtegh Singh Gill, Mairaj Ahmad Khan and Anantjeet Singh Naruka will spearhead the Indian challenge in the men's section, which will feature 181 shooters from 60 countries. World record holder Angad Vir Singh Bajwa and Rajveer Singh Rathore will compete in the RPO section. Maheshwari Chauhan, Raiza Dhillon and Ganemat Sekhon will form the women's team, and Kajal Singh Baghel will shoot in the RPO section. The women's field will have 80 shooters from 34 countries. It will be 50 birds each on the first two days of competition, and the third day will feature the last round of 25 birds, followed by the final for the top six. The trap competition will be held on July 11 and 12, with around 290 shooters in the men's and women's events. The first day will feature three rounds, and the next day, two rounds plus the final for the top six. The mixed trap will be held on July 13.

Mairaj Ahmad Khan pipped Anantjeet Singh Naruka 55-54 for the top spot in skeet in the second National shotgun selection trials at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, on Friday. World record holder Angad Vir Singh Bajwa overtook qualification topper Bhavtegh Singh Gill to the third place. Rituraj Bundela and Smit Singh were the others to make the final. In women's skeet, Ganemat Sekhon prevailed over Maheshwari Chauhan 53-52 after having topper qualification with 114. Parinaaz Dhaliwal reached the third spot, ahead of Mansi Raghuwanshi, Darshna Rathore and the junior champion Oshmi Shrivas. A below par third round score of 17, put Karttiki Singh Shaktawat out of the race for the final, as she missed out by two points with 106. The results: Skeet: Men: 1. Mairaj Ahmad Khan 55 (118); 2.
