Iraq's Basra governorate awards mega desalination project to Sino-Iraqi consortium
Iraq's Basra Governorate has awarded a major seawater desalination project to a consortium comprising Iraq's Al-Rida Group and Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina) Mobilisation for the 1 million cubic metres per day (m3/day) project, which will use reverse osmosis technology, has started, a statement issued by the Basra governor's office said. The project scope also includes a dedicated power station to secure uninterrupted electricity for operations, and a 240-kilometre water transmission network connecting to nine main distribution centres across the governorate. The statement didn't disclose project costs or timelines. PowerChina has delivered over seven desalination projects in the region, including the 900,000 m³/day Taweelah plant in Abu Dhabi, the world's largest reverse osmosis facility, and the Rabigh 3 and Jubail plants in Saudi Arabia (600,000 m³/day each). Iraq launches Najaf refinery expansion project
Iraq announced on Wednesday the start of construction works for the expansion of 30,000 barrels per day (bpd) Najaf Refinery, located in Najaf. The project, formally launched by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani on Wednesday, will increase the refinery's processing capacity by 70,000 bpd to 100,000 bpd. Scheduled for completion in eight months, the project encompasses a Linear Alkylbenzene (LAB) plant, which is an intermediate used in the production of detergents, plant for producing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) derivatives, a feedstock for polypropylene, a industrial fat blending facility, and hydrotreatment units for diesel and kerosene to produce jet fuel. Kuwait opens bidding for 2 real estate redevelopment projects under PPP framework
The Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP), in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance, has issued Invitation to Bid (ITB) notices for two real estate Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects in Qibla and Sharq areas. The tenders cover: 1. Al Muthanna Complex Real Estate Project – located in Block 12 of the Qibla area, on State-owned Plots No. 16 and 17, totaling 17,183 square metres (sqm) 2. Waterfront Real Estate Project – Phase III – located in the Sharq area, on Plot No. 1, spanning 384,385 sqm (excluding 56,111 sqm designated as Nig'ah Al-Shamlan) The scope includes rehabilitation, renovation, development, major and routine maintenance, management, and operation of the sites under a 15-year usufruct arrangement, in accordance with Law No. 116 of 2014 governing PPPs and its Executive Regulations. The tenders were issued on 29 June 2024 and the deadline for bid submission is 12:00 noon Kuwait time on 28 September 2025. Bidding companies must demonstrate a minimum of 10 years' experience in similar public or private real estate projects and provide documentation for at least two completed contracts, each valued at no less than 15 million Kuwaiti dinars ($49 million). Algeria announces bid openiong session for the 2024 oil and gas round
Algeria's Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies announced on Tuesday the bid opening session for 'Algeria Bid Round 2024,' launched by the National Agency for the Valorisation of Hydrocarbon Resources in Algeria (ALNAFT) last year. A report by local news website Echoroukonline said several global energy firms participated in the session, having previously reviewed the technical documentation through data rooms. It said the 2024 Round included six onshore exploration blocks spread across various provinces: • El Mziad El Kbir (in Ouargla, Ghardaïa, and El Menia) • Ahara (Illizi) • Reggane (Adrar) • Zraraffa (between Adrar and Ain Salah) • Tawal (between Ouargla and Illizi) • Qarn Al-Qissa (covering Béchar, Béni Abbès, El Bayadh, and Timimoun) Last month, Zawya Projects said in a report that the round attracted the interest of 41 global operators. Oman's Abraj, Algeria's Sonatrach partner for oilfield services venture
Oman's Abraj Energy Services announced on Tuesday that it signed a term sheet with Algeria's state-owned oil company Sonatrach to establish a joint venture specialising in integrated oilfield services (drilling, workover and well services). The development follows a memorandum of understanding signed by the two companies on 24 April 2024 in Oman's capital Muscat. The MSX-listed Abraj said the strategic partnership with Sontrach includes potential for global expansion. Financial details weren't disclosed.
