2 drivers critical after crash on Near West Side, police say

Two people were critically hurt following a crash Wednesday night on the city's Near West Side. It happened shortly after 10 p.m. in the 2400 block of West Washington Boulevard. Chicago police said a black Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 24-year-old man, was heading westbound on Washington Boulevard when it hit a silver Toyota Prius, driven by a 29-year-old, heading southbound on Western Avenue. Both drivers were taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. No other injuries were reported. Investigation into the crash remains ongoing by the Major Accidents Investigation Unit. No further information was immediately available.

They said the man was found near the street, in the 3600 block of North DuSable Lake Shore Drive, shortly after 3:30 a.m., unresponsive, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The exact age of the victim is unknown. The Office of Emergency Management and Communication said northbound lanes are closed from Recreation Drive to Irving Park Road for investigation. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route. Area 3 detectives and the Major Accidents Investigation Unit are investigating. No further information was available. Driver in custody after crash that left 3 children hurt in West Town

A driver was arrested and another was cited after three children were injured in a crash Saturday night in the West Town Neighborhood. It happened around 10:40 p.m. in the 1000 block of North Western Avenue. According to Chicago police, the driver, a 34-year-old man, was traveling southbound in a Lexus SUV when he hit a Lexus sedan traveling eastbound on Thomas Street. The SUV then hit two unoccupied parked vehicles on Western Avenue. Three occupants in the SUV suffered injuries. The 34-year-old man suffered bruising to the body, and a passenger, a 13-year-old girl, suffered cuts to the face. They were taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. A second passenger, a 9-year-old girl, suffered multiple fractures to the head, face, and arm. She was taken to Humboldt Park Health in critical condition. One passenger of the sedan, an 11-year-old girl, suffered minor injuries to the head and was taken to St. Mary's in good condition. Police said the 34-year-old SUV driver was arrested and issued nine citations, and that charges are pending. The sedan driver was issued one citation. The Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.

According to Chicago police, the man was on a bicycle when he rode in the path of a 65-year-old man traveling southbound in a GMC SUV through a green light on Michigan Avenue. The 18-year-old was taken to Northwestern in critical condition and later died. No other injuries were reported. The SUV driver was issued a citation for failing to yield to a bicyclist. The Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.
